How do preorders usually work on Lego? I have the base Mario set ordered, but none of the other sets are up, and I'd like to order the NES too. Do they usually go up at a certain time? Can I preorder from a store?

Heh, just had a thought. Now imagine the pandemonium if they announce CMF(Collectable Minifig Series) Nintendo's Super Smash Bros

Some new sets go up on the LEGO website to be pre-ordered, others simply say 'coming soon'.

Why this is, I don't know ... 🤷🏼‍♂️

I was able to pre-order the Marilyn Monroe LEGO Art set on the day it when up, but the very same item now says 'coming soon' — some sets are more popular than others, and the unexpected popularity sometimes catches LEGO off guard.

The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System is going to do exceptionally well for a number of reasons:

  1. Nostalgia
  2. Popular with adults
  3. Popular with kids
  4. Nintendo + LEGO
  5. The NES itself has a universal appeal
  6. Relatively generous price considering the brand involved

And with those things in mind, I can see why LEGO are not putting it up for pre-order (right now).

Here's hoping VIP members get first dibs!

How would I know if VIP members get first dibs? Is that an in-store thing or online?

I think I'm gonna hold off for a 2x points promo at the very least for the NES. It's 300$ CAD, which is considerable.

That NES replica looks amazing. Hopefully I am able to buy it in time. I'm still kicking myself for not buying The Simpsons' house when I had the chance.

Haha, now that would be a sight to behold.

How many minifigures come with each Series? Because if they decided to make at least the First Party ones, that would be over 60 minifigures (without counting the alts).

16 is the average. But Pokémon would be out, and some with non humanoid bodies(Namely Kirby) would be less likely

Oh, yeah. Totally forgot about the Pokémon and K'nex deal, but Kirby would be easy. They just need to print his features in a pink minifigure's head and put that in a new feet mold. Done, haha.

I love the engineering design work that goes into the technic sets and building them is a great contrast to your typical Lego set, but I've only so much room and money - so I've ultimately tried to rule out anything technic (even tho the Bugatti and Lambo are fire). I've got that limited edition, remote controlled, blue 4x4 that was released 4-5 years ago - but I'm weighing selling it off (if anyone is interested shoot me a PM).

I'm also someone who rarely ever gets technic sets (haven't gotten one for like 20 years maybe), but there is one coming out in August (i think) that caught my eye.
It's the Ducati Panigale V4 R. It's a good size (not too big), not too expensive ($70) and I really like the look of the build and mechanics.

same here. Used to be into technic but had to rationalise. Have the original 9398 4x4 crawler, and 8043 excavator and should really try and sell them but I find it hard to find the time (and inclination to dismantle/sort/inventory the parts). I might also give up on some of the sets I have in my backlog - VW beetle is a prime candidate for a 'was buying the theme but don't really love this particular one'

Benny's spaceship may live forever unopened in the loft - too many fond memories of original space to get rid of it

I'm kinda the opposite, decided not to get Technic for the longest time just to focus on City/Friends/Creator but now I feel like getting stuff for myself and not just the kids. They're not as into Lego as I am.

I don't know how many I'll get but I like the look of the mixer truck, and the land rover, but that's out of stock at the lego store i normally order from. I hope it comes back. I haven't tried Technic before hope its not too hard.

I think the Ducati looks pretty sweet, but I'm not really a bike guy.

We had the Mack Anthem, but it was 50% off and we sold it. WIsh we had it still cause that's still my favourite based on looks.

I agree that most of the technic sets look really big when built and we don't really have space for them either, which is why I have to be a bit choosy.

The control sets look pretty pricey, but that Liebherr looks fantastic... price is an issue though.

I've started to venture into the 1000+ piece LEGO sets on a regular basis now. I think the only ones I've built prior was the Batcave Break-In, Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle and the Ferrari F40. The former two were taken apart by my son but I still have the F40 intact. Building it was fun so I've been buying up some Technic sets. I finished building the Porsche 911 RSR and it took my son and I around 8 hours and maybe an additional half hour to fix something we did wrong. My set was missing a piece (a Technic axel) and I had requested the part through LEGO. I started to clean up some of the loose LEGOs I had and found that I had an extra piece, so I continued building it. I discovered my rear wheels was turning in opposite directions, so I knew I fucked up the gear box or the engine. I had to take it apart, fix it, and reassemble. It wasn't too bad and I'm glad I did it because it would have bothered me had I left it alone.

While building the Porsche 911 RSR, some of the instructions can be a bit difficult to understand but it'll just take you a moment longer to see where certain pieces go. Nothing that would make me give up on building it, though. I imagine that's how it is with sets as large or larger than this. I'm also getting that Ducati when it's available. Heck, I might get a few. haha

The next set I'm taking on, while not a Technic set, is the James Bond Aston Martin DB5.

Is anybody still enjoying the collectable minifigure ranges? The Viking in the newest series 20 is great.

I've recently had a bit of a splurge on a few favourites - Hazmat Guy, Yeti, Zombie Businessman, Sheriff, Mariachi, Heroic+Evil Knight, Mickey+Minnie.

Does anybody have any favourites? There doesn't seem to be a lot of YouTube content for CMF only favourites although lots including all Lego sets.

The last one I remember really liking had a bunch of classic movie monsters, like Dr. Jekyl and Mr Hyde, Frankenstein+Frankentein's monster, etc.

The one line I've gotten every single figure was the Harry Potter CMF, and I'll likely do the same for the next one they do.

Just had a really great pre-interview for a Brick Specialist position at the Lego store opening in the fall. I have a good full time job, but would love to work 1-2 shifts a week there for fun. Does anyone have experience working at a Lego store?

Does anyone here do MOC builds often, and if so how do you typically source parts?

I've never really done anything before with MOCs but found one I liked and wanted to give it a try. Any advice is appreciated.

Yeah I'm not that overly concerned on the difficulty so my initial thoughts/post didn't come out right, it was more that I'd never tried Technic so I wasn't sure on the difficulty gap between other expert sets. I guess its time to try! I'm excited about the jump up actually as honestly the creator expert lines aren't really 'expert' but more just a piece count thing.

I do them quite often, and I just use Bricklink. You can either use a digital design tool like LDD or whatever to digitally create your design, generate a parts list and then buy from that... but I tend to eyeball it and just order what I think I'll need - which gets expensive but allows for more creativity.

LEGO is having a bit of trouble with the upcoming 42113 Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey-set ahead of the release in August.

The German Peace Society organized small protests in front of German Lego stores, started a petition to stop LEGO form cooperating with defense companies etc.

First reaction: The set is not listed anymore in the German and certain European LEGO online shops.

Let's see if you can buy the set at all.

The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military. We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature real military vehicles, so it has been decided not to proceed with the launch of this product.

We appreciate that some fans who were looking forward to this set may be disappointed, but we believe it's important to ensure that we uphold our brand values.

Is there some reason the Sopwith Camel was okay, but the Osprey is not? Maybe because the Camel wasn't a contemporary military vehicle? I'm curious what the standard is here.

Yeah they've also had that split between older and modern military in other themes: they've made pirate-era navy and old west-era soldiers but would never touch modern versions of either

I wonder if there's any of those sets in the wild, could be worth TONS in a few years!
On another forum I saw someone from New Zealand mention a retailer had it on sale briefly before getting pulled in the afternoon so yeah there's a few out there. Can't imagine how crazy the prices will get for it.

On top of that this is officially licensed, so there's some money dealing going on with a defense contractor.

Oh wow I'd never thought about defense contractors getting toy royalties before. Wild. Guess i subconciously wished the law said "lol no you don't get merch money."
Yeah didn't think about it myself until I saw it mentioned elsewhere. Technically it's not like anyone outside knows the deal, but even if was a free license you could still see issues of the set being like advertising for the company and LEGO profiting off that image. Going with search and rescue livery was probably an attempt around that but ultimately I'm not sure what else they could've done to completely get around the issue, besides just going unlicensed and tweaking the design maybe?

Since there's a few out there apparently, hopefully someone posts the plans and that there's no new/custom parts involved.

Damn thats £500 including the Nintendo set. Based on yesterday maybe I can spend my Xbox Series X money on those instead. If I get PS5 for my birthday at launch then I'm relatively free to spend on silly plastic bricks instead.

Helps that my wife is a piano player and would hopefully appreciate that grand piano set. As long as I don't say how much it cost..

are there any videos showing the piano actually playing - and the sound it makes? Both playing manually and with the auto play feature. Lego has a few videos but they all just have generic soundtrack playing over it so you can't hear how it really sounds

Isn't it the phone/app that plays the song? Not the actual piano?
