Cyberpunk 2077's Latest Patch Added A Game-Breaking Bug [Updated: CDPR Suggests Workaround]

Last night, CD Projekt Red dropped the first major update for its troubled open-world shooter, Cyberpunk 2077. "Major" is a relative term. While larger than previous updates, yesterday's patch 1.1 focuses more on stability fixes rather than a wide-ranging overhaul. In fact, it may have even made the game worse—by introducing a potentially game-breaking bug.

Patch 1.1 addresses an issue in the mission "Down on the Street" where Takemura would not call, thereby preventing any progress in the mission. He'll call now, apparently, but then won't say a word. Some users say that reloading old saves or creating new save files doesn't fix it either.

There's at least one apparent workaround. First, try to call Judy before Takemura calls. When he does, hang up the line, then tackle a side job. (The player who reported this workaround tackled a Delamain side-quest.) Wait 24 hours in-game and Takemura should call in—with dialogue and everything—allowing you to progress in "Down on the Street."

Kotaku has reached out to CD Projekt Red for comment.

The patch has fixed a lot of game breaking bugs, added some improvements to performance. Big patches like this weighing over 10 GB will undoubtedly have far reaching effects and there are several patches in the works.

Feels like Kotaku is making a hill out of a mole with this one.

It's almost like if you lead your devs on a death march for a year or more, to ship a game that is so critically and popularly panned that it drags their morale down into the marianas trench, they aren't in a good place to do post launch support.

Does anyone care anymore? I don't think I've ever seen hype for something turn to disgust the way it did for this game. Even Anthem didn't cost EA as much as this game did.

Big time

Regardless of how people feel about CDPR, regardless of how people feel about the launch of the game - the devs at this point have a huge Jenga tower of problems they are working through

I respect and understand the problems of code bughunting enough not to get triggered by this news.

The other thread got locked (just like this one will/should), but CP2077 is estimated to have the biggest digital launch of any game ever, even after refunds (which affected <10% of units sold). Enthusiast opinion has simmered (on Era), sure, but as far as most casual gamers are concerned, the game is either already being played or waiting on more patches to be played.

You guys realize the game is still the number 3 seller on Steam and the 10th most played game there, beating Destiny 2 and Monster Hunter World right?

Eh depends where you play it, with over 10 million copies on PC sold, it hold a near 80% user approval rating on Steam, hardly popularly or critically panned.

We're limiting the number of Cypberpunk threads for good reason. Please continue discussion in the OT.
