It's fine and actually looks really nice, but there's a terrible (and thankfully optional) English dub, you have a lot more health, and all the lovely prerendered cutscenes from the original are done in-engine.

Klonoa 1 is a game that owned the hell out of the PS1. Between both version I'd go with the original.
Wait, an English dub?

I thought one of the defining aspects of the series is that the creators literally created an entirely new language for the characters to speak. Why were resources even put into making an English dub? lol

I think Namco was banking on the Wii audience being receptive to Klonoa (they even tried to redesign him before fans complained), but unfortunately the game was a bomb and other than the webcomic (that also got cancelled) that's all she wrote for Klonoa.

I refuse to get my hopes up, it'd end badly.

Give me Lunatea's Veil remake plz

I don't even want a remake of 2. It's literally perfect as is. Just give it to me in HD along with the wii remake of Klonoa 1.

The Wii remake is fine and all but personally I vastly prefer the artstyle of the PS1 original. I don't if it's nostalgia tho.

But more Klonoa is a good thing.

The best of both worlds would be to have the original and remake in the same collection but that's probably asking too much. I haven't played the remake yet but there's definitely something about Klonoa 1 and it's mix of sprites and 3D world assets. Though Klonoa 2 is still my favourite.

Anyway. XD I hope we somehow get Klonoa 2. Even as its own release. Paon is now Paon-DP and only do mobile games now sadly. Hell I'd doubt the same team who did Klonoa Wii (and their DK games) are still even there. They were riding high that gen (Jungle Climber and Barrel Blast had lots of Rare love and a great style, even if the latter was iffy to play).

I wish Nintendo did more with Paon. They could've kept us busy with more DK spin-offs between Retro's games.

I think the bad marketing is what killed Klonoa. The only commercial I saw for the wii remake made it look like a game for toddlers which is not a good look.

I thought the comic was nice :/

I'm sure it was, could have been the greatest comic in the universe and I'd still be mad. It's just not what I, an invested fan of Klonoa, wanted after waiting so long for something new. I honestly would have taken a barebones HD Port of Klonoa Wii to coincide with it. Then I would have been fine but just getting a comic, man...

Yeah but it's Klonoa. Bundling the series together at least creates the impression of value for your dollar. Who's going to buy just the first game's remake, a game that sold like five copies on a massively popular console?

Besides, Lunatea's Veil is the best one.
I want this to be included.

if it's just the first game, i hope the next batch of encore games include sequels like WLK and klonoa 2.
Yep. I'm surprised We Love Katamari Encore didn't happen yet honestly. Should be super easy with the first already done. Then again, they re-worked the first game into Unity, and I'd assume they'd have to do the same for WLK, rather than just port the assets into KDE and go from there.

awesome, more klonoa the better. 2 would be great given it's kind of lost to time and space, and I understand it doesn't emulate very well either.

The Wii remake looks wonderful via Dolphin:

Another one to import!
why import? whatever it is it'll 100% get localized

i have to assume the first game did well on steam/switch, i occasionally see it on the shop chart whenever it goes on sale. it makes no sense not to do the sequel. after that, they can forget about the rest of the games.

ah, i see. well, it'll probably get a physical release, like katamari did. mr driller was a more niche game.
Katmari did not in Europe. Mine was a euro biased post.
I imported the japanese version instead of US, no sure why, I think it was cheaper or easier to find. Maybe the US was store exclusive?

* shudder *

I'd much prefer the original version updated instead of the Wii remake (The CGI is worse, there's some cool effects missing, the characters don't emote as well, they added a dub for some awful reason and someone though redesigning Klonoa himself was a good idea and even the updated design they went with was unnecessary and kinda worse) but...

At this point I'll take any form of Klonoa.
Yeah.

Guess this will get moneyhatted by Nintendo once more.

I'd like it if they released the second game as well. A collection of the GBA games would be great too. I've only ever played the first game.

I love Klonoa! Although I don't think I would buy another rerelease of an old game. Hopefully they make a new game some day!

By the way Mr Driller is releasing in Europe retail as code in a box. Not sure in other regions. Cannot understand the logic of most big publishers on Switch, they really do not know the audience.

Buying the second it comes out.
I would prefer a remaster of the PS1 Klonoa, but I'll take anything else.

Terrible marketing and Klonoa seems to go hand in hand. Never forget that Namco compared Klonoa to a STD on a print ad for the first game on the PS1.

I don't think I even saw Klonoa for Wii in a store back in the day!

And of course nowadays the second hand prices are insane.

Having heard good things about it, it's one of those games I've wanted to check out so here's hoping.

FML if this is moneyhatted by Nintendo for two years like Katamari was.
Was that even money hatted? I'd like to think a money hatted game would get a physical release in Europe...

Do you have a PS3? The PS1 version of Klonoa is on the store.

Please be more Klonoa. I played the Hell out of this series as a kid. It holds a special place in my dead, cold, cynical heart.

All I'm wishing for is that it'll be a remaster of Klonoa 2, the first game is already available on PSN and I've completed it there, but from all I've heard the second is a massive leap forward but it's not available anywhere on any modern storefront and copies of it sell for obscene amounts these days.

Make it happen, Bamco, I've been itching to play Klonoa 2 for years.

If lack of rating logos don't bother you, you CAN buy an English boxed retail release of Mr. Driller Drill Land on Switch:

Mr Driller Drillland Nintendo Switch NEW SEALED Plays Worldwide for sale | eBay

Find great deals on eBay for Mr Driller Drillland Nintendo Switch NEW SEALED Plays Worldwide. Shop with confidence.

I'm assuming you'll only find these at online shops, or likely in any import-specialist store (like A&C Games in Toronto I'd bet).

I replayed the Wii remake of Klonoa last year or the year before. It's fine! A good version of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, for the most part.

My problem with the Klonoa franchise is I get the feeling Namco never got the results they were hoping for. Klonoa 1 was amazing, Klonoa 2 was okay, but my problem is they kind of started to... Sonic the Hedgehog him up, a little bit. Starting with Klonoa 2 they aged him up and tried to make him look less cute and more "cool". The game is still cool, but it's one of those things where you take a step back and kind of scratch your head a bit

szflc0M.png

That was also kind of my problem with the Wii remake of Klonoa. They were considering dramatically changing how he looks as a character and they were going to get rid of their special phantomile language in exchange for native speaking. That last part still technically happened, but "Phantomile" is one of the language options in the settings menu. The remake just defaults to English.

It just felt like Namco was always trying to "fix" Klonoa in ways that it wasn't broken, but I suppose they were looking for more mass market appeal

I always wanted to get Klonoa 2, but by the time I had the money for it (as a kid), it was impossible to find at retail. I loved the art style and especially loved platformers back then. I've never played any games in the series, but I do own the PS One Classic version of the original (just no way of playing it). Here's to hoping that these potential remasters/remakes happen and make their way out west.

It's probably just goinng to be the Wii remake but man, it would be so amazing if we somehow got a Switch port of Lunatea's Veil out of this too. Remade in HD or just a straight conversion, I don't care. Incredible game.

Klonoa is awesome no matter what, though, so I'll happily take whatever get.

I seem to recall that redesign of Klonoa for the remake was intended for the western market and Japan was always intended to get the final version.

Gotta disagree with you hard on Klonoa 1 being amazing and Klonoa 2 being okay. Klonoa 2 is the best game in the series imo. The music, the visuals, even the gameplay is more challenging. I also found the story to be more engaging than the one in 1.

Admittedly, I haven't played Klonoa 2 in probably close to 12 years. I just got a Retrotink recently, so hooking up the PS2 has been on my mind lately, and I've specifically been thinking about Klonoa 2.
