KFC has been in steady decline of quality since at least the 80s all while the prices rise though the price of chicken at stores has been relatively flat for decades, yes I know there's other costs but their crusade of making it faster/cheaper has pretty much ruined it. I'd rather buy a package of chicken or even just legs and fry it myself for like a quarter of the price than go to KFC for a 12 piece bucket of crap. Can also get a 12 piece at my store's deli for half the price of a KFC bucket and the chicken's better too.

People say KFC sucks but a bucket of KFC never made me sad.
For how much it cost for mediocre at best chicken, your wallet should be.

Popeyes is freaking disgusting. Last time I bought from there, the entire container was covered in grease, they forgot my red beans and rice, and the chicken was cold.

Oh and they forgot my buffalo sauce!

Chick-fil-a is better (through I don't go there anymore because of other reasons).

You see what happens, OP? When you start down that slippery slope?

KFC is trash everywhere

Except South East Asia

It seems like based on the responses to this thread, there are rebellious region-specific chicken locations trying to fight against the reputations of their mother company.

Popeye's chicken and Church's biscuits would be a perfect meal.

Also eaten a few times at a place called Hot Chicken Takeover and they're damn good, only bad side is the only sides are mac and cheese or cole slaw.

Wait a minute I didn't make this thread

Church's is a jack of all trades. I'm quite fond of the corn on the cob and the whole jalepenos they offer as sides, but I cannot say positive things about their chicken beyond "well it's better than KFC."

I think they're #3 for national chains, right behind BoJangles

Churches chicken is the only fried chicken I've had that could be described as "wet."

But them honey biscuits...almost make up for it.

They don't get enough love for their mashed potatoes, either. That gravy is poppin.

Actually, I'm gonna go ahead and say that, of the national chains, Church's just might have the best sides.

Next time I go to Church's I'm tempted to ask them to put a dollop of honey butter used on the biscuits on my chicken to see how that'd turn out :)

I find that KFC has the biggest pieces and they're less greasy. Popeyes spicy is the tastiest. Church's is good too, plus they tend to have more specials so I can get it cheaper.

CHURCH'S??

I have seen a total of one restaurant in my entire life. I didn't even know they were still a thing.

Never seen anyone try and hold dirty bird above Popeye's. You have some goddamned nerved OP. Didn't even single it down to the biscuits either, you just went wholesale crazy and tried to hold them alien, steroid fed, umbrella corporation infected, 6 lb. drumsticks and wings up like they aren't crimes against genetics.

We'll see how you like it when they remove a baseball sized tumor from your midsection in a decade or two and cut it open and find a full row of teeth and hair inside that pos. Eating that nasty deformed chicken breh. But you do you.

I haven't had Church's Chicken yet but I've had my share of Popeye's Chicken and KFC. Too me, Popeye's is super dry and lacks the flavor KFC has, especially their tenders, which is what I usually get.

It completely depends on what part of the three chains' coverage you're in. Church's is decent in Central Florida, for example, butat both nearby stores here in Durham, NC? It's overcooked to the point of burnt, flavorless unless it's spicy, and there's barely any meat on it. I've had this experience elsewhere too.

KFC is quite decent around these parts. Bojangle's is the local king though.

I'm a fan of all fried chicken, and expertly prepared it's one of my favorite foods.

I've never heard of Church's before, but I have had Popeyes and KFC many times. I generally prefer KFC cause I've found it more consistent. I've had Popeyes before that was amazing, and other times it was excessively greasy. I found KFC to always offer a similar tasting chicken.

Canes is good, but it's chicken fingers not fried chicken (regardless of how it's cooked).

Might sound crazy, but the BEST friend chicken period is from Revival in Minneapolis, MN.

I don't eat a lot of chicken outside of hot wings, but I always go to churchs chicken when I get that craving. I don't think KFC or Popeyes is gross or anything, they just don't taste as good

If you're blessed with a decent Korean fried chicken joint near you I implore you to try it. You'll never go back to Popeye's or Church's.

I will like to try Church's Chicken out. Popeye's chicken is better than Bojangles and KFC.

I was just visiting Vietnam, and they have Church's Chicken there too, but they renamed it Texas Chicken. Not entirely sure why, but I suspect is had to do with possible religious objections by the government related to the original name. They have Popeye's and KFC too.

There's still one by me in East LA. Be jealous. Such great fucking chicken.

That is quite a trek for me. Do you know if it is still the same recipe? I knew that a location or two still exists, but I didn't want to try and go there only to have some sort of imitation of the real thing. A company essentially shuts down and the mass-produced ingredients stop being made. So I'm curious if it's the real deal.

Wow. Great fact. Wasn't aware of that rebranding.

I've only had Church's once in my life, and that was more than 20 years ago. But Popeyes is hard to top.

Church's strips are a Popeye's ripoff for reals

Also, you need to report your local Popeye's to corporate, as Popeye's has zero business not dunking on Church's 24/7. Do your community a favor and give the home office a call. Popeye's is the only restaurant that can give me the wrong order and I won't even care; I still walked out with Popeye's so I came out ahead in that transaction no matter what.

Churches' biscuits are so damn great.

Is it still actually pioneer chicken though? Pioneer was the bomb in the 80's but I've been to that east los pioneer in like the mid 00's and it was just some rando burger/taco place on the inside I didn't stick around to find out if they actually served chicken because I was disappointed.

I don't like KFC outside of their sides. Popeyes has the best chicken, Church's has the best prices and their chicken is way better than KFC.

It is a legit pioneer chicken. Like only serves chicken and sides. Are you sure you stopped by the right place? Soto at 6th?

Pretty sure it is very similar. Almost orange-brown crusty/crunchy breading, with a very country fried chicken taste, not excessively seasoned.

Bojangles is hard to beat as a fast food restaurant (not even just chicken). They serve breakfast all day, their biscuits are godly, and all day long they make a fresh batch of biscuits like every half hour. The Cajun Fries are some of the best in the industry and the Bo-Rounds are the best hash browns you can get in fast food. Their Cajun Filet biscuit is awesome and their Supremes are probably the best chicken tenders you can get at a fast food place. I'm willing to concede that with bone-in chicken Popeyes has them matched though.

KFC is a tier below them but they aren't bad. The Colonel's Crispy sandwich is pretty good, the Nashville Hot chicken isn't bad, and their $5 fill ups are a pretty good deal. About 1/2 the time the wedges are incredible and the other half they are cold, crumbly, sad potato chunks.

Chick-Fil-A isn't really comparable because it only does one thing really but it does it spectacularly. There's nowhere in fast food that serves a fried chicken sandwich better than CFA but that's really all they do.

Shoutout to McDonalds buttermilk chicken biscuit. It's not as tasty or flaverful as the Bojangles version but it's usually a larger piece of chicken, it's really juicy, and it's only $2. Mcdonalds in the Southeast makes fresh biscuits but I don't know if they do nationwide.

The orange color and crust is key! I'll always have fond memories of my late father buying me a drumstick each time we passed an LA location when we used to live in Highland Park.
