One potential issue are the cutscenes. While some are real-time, it uses a LOT of pre-rendered cinematics. It would be extremely jarring unless they could be recreated at a higher fidelity.

I mean... you could perhaps make me replay XS1.
No way in hell I'd ever touch XS2 again. That game was shit in every category possible.
XS3 just makes me sad because Shion is the worst and I ain't replaying that just to see Allen get demolished again.

i think i beat the first one, played some of the 2nd but they changed the character designs so they all felt like different characters to me. then i stopped. it was kind of a boring grind outside of the interesting story.

never even bought the 3rd one, and its like 100+ bucks or whatever

How was there an entire discussion about how creepy all of these games are without even mentioning Momo?

I definitely can.

The Xenosaga trilogy was a mess, each game so different than the others that each new entry alienated fans of the previous.

Shenmue is nothing if not consistent and uncompromising in its vision.

I'm not surprised or disappointed by this news. After all, we did finally get a complete self-contained Xeno experience with XC1, with minimal fanservice at that. The saga games feel like growing pains to that point, in retrospect.

Outside of art style and battle system (1/2 to 3), they're really not.

Again, I blame people who were hyperbolic as fuck about everything in Xenosaga II. In my eyes, it's literally just a better version of XSI. Better in every way.

But Nintendo already has MS doing exactly that.

Nintendo doesn't have an alternative for Bayo or Deadly Premonition, but there's nothing Xenosaga would offer that Xenoblade already doesn't.

Xenosaga's problem is not niche-ness, it's redundancy.

Huh? In many ways the Xenoblade games don't scratch the same itch.

Harada is so cool. Actually, the whole Bamco building seems to be really good. Recently we saw Paolo ghost an employee for a day, and some of the big dawgs were just here, chilling and willing to meet him.

I mean at least they can have some variation in them. There's a bit of wiggle room in the Xenoblade machine, more so than other series.

I mean... I hate the art style in all of the games, I don't like the open world structure, and the MMO-like combat is not appealing to me at all. It just seems like they were made by a totally different company than the ones who made Baten Kaitos, Xenogears, and Xenosaga. I don't think I'll get my hopes up.

i guess the situation is a bit too complicated for these games. an HD remaster would be profitable if it was out on every platform (most of the JRPG remasters you se around are multiplatform) but if they want Monolith involved it probably means Nintendo exclusivity and in that case it won't be profitable and seems like Namco doesn't want to sell the IP.

I've been playing the originals recently and like, I kind of get where they're coming from. I don't think these would have much appeal to fans of the open-world exploration-based Xenoblade games.

Also I think this tanks KOS-MOS' Smash chances. I don't believe they would add a character whose franchise isn't available on modern consoles.

1/4 of the characters in Smash don't have games available in modern consoles (or at least on Nintendo's current console). that's not what's gonna put the nail in her coffin.

Both are JRPGs with a futuristic aesthestic and similar art design. Monolith could very well make a Xenosaga-like game and call it Xenoblade something, especially when the three Xenoblade games we already have are so different from each other.

Xenosaga just doesn't bring anything worthwhile. Like, the potential (and niche) demographic for those games would be more or less the same. Plus, it could introduce potential branding problems.

I wonder.... for a simple remaster I don't think they'd need Monolith Soft. If they wanted them involved seems to me they were thinking a remaster in the line of Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition - some extra content, maybe throwing in some story stuff that Takahashi couldn't include back in the day.

Well I mean, I wouldn't care about the continued use of the Xenoblade name, I just personally wouldn't want the focus of having an open world, the MMO-like combat, or the fugly art styles, to continue. But it seems like those are series staples.

But you seem to view variety as "redundancy." As a JRPG fan, Nintendo could use WAY more exclusive JRPG's (that have a good budget).

I just think Nintendo doesn't really give too much of a shit about JRPG's.

Nintendo is a big supporter of the genre. Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are big first party franchises. They also have pushed Dragon Quest quite a bit between promoting and publishing Dragon Quest games (also Hero in Smash). There's the asano stuff they promote/publish like the bravely games and Octopath. Even got Atlus to give Tokyo Mirage Sessions another shot. Also the last couple directs had them announce the Mana collection and the trials remake.

The transition to HD hasn't been kind to the genre and the amount of series that have survived the transition has dwindled. The fact that Nintendo was able to nurture both Xenoblade and Fire Emblem to be some of the more successful HD JRPG franchises is a testament to their commitment to the genre. And they arguably have the biggest JRPG franchise — Pokemon — though I'm sure you mean something akin to a Final Fantasy.

I mean, both XB2 and FE3H (and Octopath) are probably gonna outsell Tales of Arise world wide. There's plenty of support for the genre on the platforms from Nintendo.

Xenosaga is space-opera about people diving into cyberspace and exploring spaceships, how is Xenoblade even remotely similar except the occasional sci-fi twist toward the end and Takahashi re-using his themes? Literally 90% of Xenoblade 2 plays like a fantasy rpg.

Nintendo already has the premier JRPG series with Pokemon.

Then you have the massively JRPG-influenced Fire Emblem, Squenix support with Octopath Traveler, Mana, Dragon Quest and Bravely Default, plus, a load of forgotten JRPG IP like Golden Sun and The Last Story that could afford some attention. Heck, Paper Mario could come back at any moment.

It's like the most well-represented genre after Platformers.

I miss Xenosaga for its drama and awesome music. However, its gameplay is quite weak. I doubt I will be able to replay them even if we get HD remaster.

Talking about music though, it's a pity that Xenosaga was the last time we ever get Kajiura's composition in video game. Bamco, just rerelease Xenosaga's music compilation please! :(

and then there are a bunch of jrpg-inspired indies out there. the genre is pretty well served for nintendo to need to throw a hat into the ring

Yup. They have their big hats — Xenoblade (marriage of old school JRPG w/ open world), Fire Emblem (SRPG), and Pokemon (Pokemon), plus games like Bravery/Octopath that definitely are more traditional. There's a lot on the platform as is, even from Nintendo.

Im a huge xs2 fan, it's my favorite of the bunch. There's no denying that it put off a large group of existing fans. Xs3 felt alienating to me as someone who enjoyed the second, since it overcorrected so far back in the other direction. I also hated the ending but that's beside the point.

As my favourite games ever along with Xenogears, this news breaks me but I really do think they can salvage this. KOS-MOS has enough presence in crossovers to justify herself in smash. Her XB2 design would fit perfectly.

That's literally the shortest time I've ever heard anyone state for the game
I can show you, but yeah I usually ignore most fetch sidequests and never unlocked Poppi's last transformation, I didn't farm for blades either and pretty played with the same blades team until the end. I think I clocked 80 hours in X because I just really loved that world, and XB about 50 but that is because I was really into the sidequests. I think XB2 is the weakest one of the 3.

Midgar, With Love
*cries in Kevin*

These games have some of the raddest ending themes ever. No lie, I got through some tough times with "Kokoro" playing on my CD player.

The Xeno-series means a lot to me, and I was a straight up Xenosaga fanboy in the PS2 era. That said, the story of the project speaks for itself. I think, despite the flaws, there's still a lot to appreciate in Xenosaga even today. Ep III is probably the pinnacle of the cinematic, linear jrpg sub genre that was widespread in the PS2 era. But the hurdle to surpass to see those good bits was too much to ask then and is even more now. I would be fine with a PSN release just for preservation purposes but I'm already used to the idea that I will never see the true realization of what this series could have achieved. A remaster would probably just aggravate the flaws, turning people off something that was very much a "you had to be there" series and that hasn't aged quite well.

Less bitching about outfits and why this wont work and just pour another one out for our dead space opera series.

Also post more good music

Wtf? Fuck Nintendo. I miss Monolithsoft before they became a Xenoblade machine
They didnt say that, xenoblade is their most sucessful game series so far and compared to the other nintendo studios they are still fairly new so takahashi said Nintendo wants them to build up their portfolio 1st before going for more new IPs

With that said monolithsoft are already hiring for allegedly a new IP

damn i can't believe they think a franchise that famously flopped so hard it had to be cut short by like three games wouldn't be profitable to port

Don't be 4chan, please. I have enough of those fake information. Takahashi won't casually drop what he's doing like when he said no Xenoblade and then boom, fucking Xenoblade 2
