Star Wars’ Upcoming Movies Will Be Set Around The Sequel Era, Says Kathleen Kennedy – Exclusive

The Lucasfilm boss talks to Empire at Star Wars Celebration about the big-screen plans for the Sequel Era.

"The sequel era is what we talk a lot about in terms of where we're going with our movies, and just how far out from that we'll go. That's very much the space we're concentrating on."

Rogue Squadron has been rumored to be taking place post ST with Kennedy stating in the Vanity Fair article last week that Taika's film is set to begin a new era for SW. Seems they are still planning what the future for SW is on the big screen, which involves things later down in the timeline.

I would love stuff set way in the future. Sequel era stuff is something I'm far less interested in. I really want to just move on, but I guess it depends on who is attached to each project.

Disney got away with Rogue One because it takes place just before Star Wars 1977, but delving any further than The Mandalorian? I'm not watching knowing where its headed.

Not surprising. Similar attitudes against this were around during the prequel era and it succeeded for the most part.

Couldn't care less after they retconned the central story, made Rey a Palpatine, and shit on the ending of TLJ

I want movies totally disconnected from any of the current movies. At most like "luke was some dude thousands of years ago" thats it. Go new wild cool places.

Where is my animated series (Filoni) set after Episode 9? I may not be happy how the ST ended up being overall, but at this point unless they want to retcon it, they have to rip the band aid off eventually.

I would love future films to be a disconnected story from the skywalker saga plot, but also have a baddass Rey still on a new adventure. Or in a supporting Obi Wan like role.

Good.

Is there anyone that's going to say "You know I could use more backstory here" anymore?

Move. On.

Ah, good. The sequel era. So everyone can bump into as many recognizable characters from the series as possible, preventing the series from ever moving on.

The entire Sequel Trilogy is like 16 months long if lucky. Of course, it will be set afterwards. There is no time to do anything other than Pre Sequel trilogy and Post Sequel trilogy.

Thats what happens when you speedrun essentially what is the Episode 1-6 story that spans like 50 years and condense it to a 1 year marathon for 7-9

They milked the shit out of the two years of the clone wars…. No way they aren't going to spend way way more time on the 30 years between ROTJ and TFA.

I doubt Mandolorian even ends without showing us the beginning of the first order and Snoke's reign and all that.

Jedi temple, young Kylo… it's inevitable.

Genuinely don't care where they set their sights, I just want good stories. They can do that in any era

But uh the sequel era and beyond sure does make sense if they plan on doing more with Grogu

In fairness you can start right where the movie ended and move forward. You have several legacy characters who can make occasional Next Generation appearances and in the end you say say it ended with the government divided due to much of the Republic being decimated, the Resistance weakened,
the First Order still lingering with some new head. But you have a blank slate as for world building for all new characters to pop in.

After the last trilogy of films I need, at the bare minimum, the next Star Films flagship film to be completely divorced from anything Skywalker before I even begin to believe this. Because Star Wars' main problem for me right now as a narrative universe is how small it feels, especially considering...you know, it's an actual universe of stories allegedly.

Please. Just forget the Sequel era. Don't try to flesh it out in films. I do not care about the First Order.

This. If Duel of the Fates had made it out and The Rise of Skywalker didn't exist, then I'd be singing a different tune. But as it is, I'm not really excited for anything related to the sequel trilogy. Especially since that era is basically just The Empire 2.0.

I'd be interested in stuff set after it though.

I don't want to hear the name Skywalker, Vader, or Palpatine again.

TFA last Star Wars movie I liked. But I'm done with anything related to OT

I would like to know what Disney executive has the sequel era Star Wars as their pet project so they can get fired appropriately. That whole empire/rebels rehash era is trash, yet they're super committed to it for some reason.

We know that won't stop them. They're already breaking out the creepy-ass deepfaked voices and faces. All the OT actors will be their cinema puppets for centuries.
