My memory's a bit foggy on those

Same here, it just wasn't intuitive for me the first couple of hours.
Maybe the minimap rotated with the camera in the Yakuza's?

I love the dive kick Yagami does when you sprint and press triangle in Crane stance. The animation of him jumping and not caring how he's gonna land never gets old.

As expected this is gonna be a top 10 game for me this year. And I'm only just past the halfway point. Although it's my least favorite "Yakuzaverse" game so far.

Is it a glitch? Does the game didn'y register that i bought the abilities?

Should've went to the arcade instead🤣
I didn't realize it was an actual choice when that came up; I figured batting cages were the "correct" answer for blowing off steam. I struck out seven times. I'm always amazed by how good everyone else's dexterity must be that they can play some of these minigames.

Is there any way to track who you're friends with? I can see that I'm friends with like 3/50 people, but I want to track who I'm friends with and who I'm not. The shops section of KamuroGo shows the achievements for each restaurant, but that doesn't mention friendship and it doesn't include the characters who are just sorta standing around.
If you go to KamuroGo, under city missions you'll see "Friend challenge" and you can press triangle to display a list of people you're friends with and what your completion status is with each of them.

If anyone's thinking about it, I would strongly recommend doing all the Side Cases and Friend Events, because the final one that unlocks for completing them all is one of the best sub stories in the entire Yakuza series. I think Judgment is the best embodiment of Kamurocho as a place where you feel like you have friends on every corner of the city; the quests are all fun and enjoyable in their own right, but the final one where it all comes together is so good.

The one for the Ebisu pawn shop unfortunately requires some grinding in the casino, but even this is more painless than usual because you can just save right in front of the casino table and save scum your way to Blackjack victory over and over.

I had mine pre-ordered from Amazon. It shipped on Monday and was in hands yesterday.

Probably a dumb questions, but you selected release-day delivery, correct? If so, sorry to hear about its tardiness.

I live in Taiwan. Usually games ship the day after ordering or the day of release. I had mine preordered and at least expected it to ship within the release window. It shows as in stock.

It's great because I sometimes get games here in Taipei anywhere from 3-7 days with standard shipping. It's usually fast delivery considering where I'm at.

But this is the first time I've been waiting on a game to just show as shipped.

I just started yesterday and it seems fun so far (combat has much nicer feel to it compared to Yakuza 6), but I'm having some feeling of deja-vu. It's different but the same in a lot of ways, which is what I expected, but I like my games to feel fresh and new instead of more of the same. I had the same feeling with Fist of the North star which was pretty decent but even with a completely different setting it still feels like the same game.

For me Fist of the Northstar didn't click because it felt too different. It was also a drag to play (atleast for me in the first 5 or so hours) just like Judgment...
I also miss the little ventures outside Kamurocho like Onomichi or Sotenbori

Also, this game reminded me that I'm not gonna get a new game with Kiryu :'( (thank God I've still got the PS4 ports of Y3,4 and 5 I'm eagerly waiting for)

Oh yeah I already have Yakuza 3 and 4, but never actually played them, but I'm definitely getting the remasters/ports. That reminds me I still have to start Kiwami 2...too many games as usual.

Played a little bit last night, great main character so far!

My only tiny complaint is that the cutscenes are a little stuttery but everything has been smooth in actual gameplay.

Playing in English for curiosity's sake and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. They even manage to make the Japanese honorifics not sound nearly as awkward as they do in the Persona games. I guess good voice direction goes a really long way.

Chapter 1 feels really, really long, though. How long do I have to wait before I can start doing sidestories and optional content? I feel like there has to be a point to all these cats I keep finding around the city.

I'm enjoying the QOL changes from the latest Yakuza games. For example the UI and the map is a big improvement.

I've just finished the 1st chapter and I can't wait to jump back in and play more

The UI definitely feels like a huge step up. I just wish they'd bring back the character files from the old games! Yakuza keeps forgetting to put it back in and I don't know why.

Anyone had a fight long enough for the cops to show up? What happens if they do?
You have to run for it if they show up. There's actually a rrare QTE when the cops show up - usually its a male cop that appears, but sometimes you'll get a lady appear instead which has a completely different looking QTE.

I would generally agree with the cons there, though they really didn't bother me at all. But I hope that this series is something they build upon, they found something special here by presenting the other side of the coin, but still maintaining some borderline vigilante work as a private detective. It would be cool if a sequel game expanded not only the PI stuff, but add it in one of the other law practice and characters to have a Ace Attorney style component for the courts.

Reading about the Puyo Puyo requirements has me reluctant to try getting the Platinum for this, which is a shame.

Have trophies ever been re-balanced post-launch in any games, or should I just resign myself to not getting the platinum here?

When do you unlock the Quickstarter app? Really want that Code Hunter skill before looking for all those QR codes.

This is how I've been playing. I'm in Chapter 7, I believe, and I'm at 38/50 Friends and I believe I'm all caught up in side cases as well. Can't wait to see the final one.

For the Ebisu friend event, I just bought the chips, exchanged for the paintings and moved on, lol. Saved a ton of time. The VR game makes it extremely easy to score tons of cash and if you complete the Batting Center, you come away with a Free Play pass for every single one.

Feel dumb. Girlfriend just saw me playing and asked "is that him from Blade of the Immortal?"

Did not notice that at all.

Tfw you bring the girl to batting cages on your first date to impress her and end up making a fool of yourself.

Just did this and failed earlier too. I know it's just a game but I still felt bad lol. I'm so sorry Yagami.

There's a friend who will sell you batting gloves and eventually a golden bat that makes the batting game pretty ridiculously easy.

Of course you have to beat like 5 of the courses before he'll sell you both, but...totally helps not look like a dweeb on the dates.

(I also embarassed myself on my first date at the batting center with Sana and then played it for like 3 hours until I mastered the minigame afterwards lol)

Well, the remaster of Yakuza 3 for PS4 had some trophies "rebalanced", but they were all easy trophies anyway, they just reduced the requirements to make them less of a grind. I guess the biggest change to the trophies would be FOTNS, which changed a couple of its requirements, most notably only needing 50% of the completion list for the plat, not 100%, which drastically reduces grinding in certain areas.
I don't see the need to reduce Judgments requirements though, as its perfectly possible to do, I've done it and I'm rubbish at the mini game. Besides, you still have Mahjong, Shogi, Drone Time Trials etc. to do either way, I'd say Shogi and the TTs are way harder (though with the right guide you can get the AI in Shogi to do exactly what you want every time which sure helps!)

Thanks. So Puyo Puyo isn't that difficult to beat all the characters?

I haven't played it, but all the comments about it on the PowerPyx guide seemed to be saying it was a ridiculous requirement that needed an absurdly high level of skill at the game.

High level of skill? Nah, you can be shit at it and win, this is how I and many other people did it:

It does require some luck, because the AI can get a good combo as well, so you gotta be careful, and prepared to lose a few times. You basically have to get a 25ish win streak (some say 30, some as low as 20-23). Its definitely the hardest of the arcade games, though that's mainly because Fighting Vipers doesn't require you to beat BM. Otherwise it might be a different story!

That's good to know then, thanks! Maybe the platinum playthrough is back on... for now anyway!

No big surprises, the tech is the same as Yakuza 6 though DF say this is the most refined game on the Dragon Engine yet.
There's a quick mention in the video about how Judgment's reuse of Kamurocho feels like New York being reused as a setting in different films that see the city through different perspectives, and it's a metaphor that I'd been thinking of while playing the game, mostly because I don't agree that it's actually done here. One of my disappointments with Judgment thus far is that despite the characters being unique and unconnected to the Yakuza games, this is still very much set in the world of the yakuza, down to your character even has a yakuza father figure like Kiryu did. I know I'm in the minority here, but I've always found the clan conflicts in the Yakuza games to be the least interesting part of each game's respective story, and so it's a disappointing that that's at the heart of the mystery in Judgment, because it immediately makes the killer less mysterious and potentially terrifying. I would like to see Kamurocho from the vantage point of someone who isn't so embroiled in yakuza affairs, although I can't imagine who would replace the yakuza as enemies in street fights, and so their inclusion is probably inevitable.

I love Kamurocho, but would like to see them tackle San Francisco/Los Angeles situation from a Yakuza/Triad conflict within the typical Yakuza franchise style.

There's so much potential for a Korean/Chinese based Yakuza game I'd rather they focus their efforts there. Plus they've already established both the Chinese and Korean mafia as legit threats in past Yakuza games.

How is Judgment & the Yakuza series take on Tokyo? Is it a 1 to 1 recreation? I'm going there later this year & thought it would actually be a good idea to roam the streets in those games to get a feel for it.

Beaten Yakuza 0,1,2 and I'm loving Judgment so far. The initial premise and plot is gripping and feels like a crime thriller I'd watch at Fantastic Fest and then wait 3 years to see on Netflix and recommend to friends

Really like Takayuki as a character and per usual the city is gorgeous and character in its own right.

It's a very specific recreation of Kabukicho, so it's more like a reflection of one specific neighborhood of Tokyo. It's not one-to-one, but the attention to detail is definitely pretty stark. People have done comparisons before.
