It was kinda funny when Cap said he wanted them to accomplish what Murants did on Mars « together ». I know he's friendly with Wolverine and was on Illuminatis with Prof X but was he ever a defender for them ?
Avengers Unity Division was his idea, wasn't it?

Edit: Yep.

I was reading the recent issues and I hate how antagonistic some of my favorite characters get when talking about mutants. Damn. Even Richard Rider :\

Can Mystique morph parts entirely separate from her person? Otherwise between her and Cortez, Magneto's helmet did a lot of bouncing around before morning.
I assumed the scene was taking place in Magneto's home, which is where it would make sense to have that conversation with Wanda. If so, he probably just has spare helmets lying around.

I like how they recreated a bunch of scenes from the POV of nightcrawler, that was fun and made sense why they were randomly included in other comics

What do you think I'm missing, pray tell.

Beast is a bastard and it's good for him to get what he deserves, but the actual issue of X-Force is it's mandate. If you put someone morally upright in charge, that'll be nice for a while but quickly turn into a chronicle of how quickly the new chief disregards whatever morals they hold in pursuit of "national security." Especially as mutantkind gains more and more leverage, X-Force will continue to create more problems than they actually solve.

This is all great drama though, I love the book.

I can't say that I agree that anyone would disregard their morals for the mandate. Though understandably most of those more principled characters would shun the job and especially the work. Kinda like Jean did.

Honestly having someone second guess their monstrousness would be a breath of fresh air and a stark contrast to the abject horror show from Mr how low can you go, McCoy. Beast deserves more than a slap in the face. It was just cathartic to see at least someone push back on his cartoon villainy.

Exactly. Any intelligence agency is going to get its hands dirty doing some real fucked shit. But there is a real, tangible difference between having someone in charge who knows there's a line, even when they decide to cross it, and someone who doesn't.

For sure.

My expectation is someone who sees the line (and probably detests Beast) is going to be put in charge, but the ongoing story is how and when they're repeatedly made to shift the goalposts and redraw that line.

Truth of the matter is that mutants have experienced multiple attempts at genocide in just last (sliding timescale) 20 years, 30 if you want to really push the timeline (that would make Emma, Jean, Scott etc in thier mid 40s)

They need to be absolutely ruthless with thier espionage tactics. It just feels wrong for it the Beast.

Beast was the one who literally quit and left Utopia because he thought Cyclops was going to far putting together X-Force together as a preemptive Kill team.

And Yes the Watcher is disgusted by Hank McCoy. But that was he was willing to damage the timeline to prove to Scott that he was on the wrong path. That he was so devoted to proving that Scott was wrong that he was willing to damage the timeline to do it.

But Beast wasn't breaking his morals, he was trying to show Cyclops how wrong he was being for betraying the morals they were raised with.

Beast now, he's betraying his morals.

Beast's only consistent motivation during that time was that he was bitter at Cyclops. He complained about Cyclops running a secret X-Force team but didn't mind Wolverine running it out of the Jean Grey School later. And then Beast himself joined the Secret Avengers and the Illuminati.

Beast has been on observable moral downturn for a decade now, Marvel writers have been gaudily consistent with this. Regardless though, the job is going to do that to whoever works it. The difference is going to be who lasts longer doing it.

I like him just like I like a alot of villains. I mean, Sinister is one of my favorite characters.

This. The X-Men line has redeemed a lot of villains over the years - Magneto, Emma, etc. I'd like to see an originally heroic and likable character like Beast turned into a full on villain. He arguably already has, but I want to see it taken to its natural conclusion where he starts to actually work against the X-Men because he thinks only he knows what's right for mutant-kind and that the X-Men are preventing him from doing what still needs to be done even though they were fine with using him to do their dirty work for years.

Hickman is going to be leaving the X books? Honestly I enjoyed the premise more than the execution but it's by far the best shape the X books have been in almost 20 years IMO. I hope he stays.

I read the promo for Children of the Atom #5 and all I can think is, "I don't know the answers to the questions you're asking, but I'm absolutely confident that the answers will be boring."

It just says that this is the "Culmination" of his run-like it's been leading to this-but they don't say its the end.

If it was the end of Hickman's run you can bet they would hype that shit through the roof. It's "just" a Hickman centric event from what they're saying.

Good week for people being slapped.

Loved the callbacks to the other issues in Way of X.

SWORD was amazing, Storm's intro was so damn great!

The end of Hickman's run is not gonna be a four issue mini with no tie-ins lol

Reading that solicit for X-men #1, I feel like the long game is them eventually openly opposing the council. Still think all of this is exactly what Charles wants, too.

I agree with this take. There seems to me to repeatedly be an implication that Charles and Mags both agree that the X-Men are IMPORTANT, and further that Chuck has several hidden motives… I kinda wonder if one part of his goal isn't having an X-Men team that does break from the Council/Krakoa, and thereby earns the team a greater degree of human trust than they have previously gotten in this or other timelines.

I think what Moira and Namor have said about him plays into it, too. Remember when Hickman said he was writing 93 mutants and 92 of them were villains? Charles is the good one in all of this. He's done some bad stuff over the years, but he probably can't ever really become as shrewd as Moira's plan requires.
