---

New series
  • X-Corp (May)
  • X-Men (July)
Series ending
  • Cable (#12, July)
  • X-Men (#21, June)
  • X-Factor (#10, June)
One-shots
  • Planet-Size X-Men (June)
  • Giant-Size X-Men: Tribute To Wein & Cockrum Gallery Edition (July, seems to just be a reprint with both the original and the tribute issue)
Misc notes
  • Moira X is still MIA, who knows if it's actually coming.
  • Lots of delays in May, most notably Cable #11 being delayed from the end of May to the end of June. #12 mentions the Hellfire Gala, which means it was presumably also supposed to happen in June.
(I can't help wondering if these constant delays are why it's being cancelled.)
  • New Mutants is on another two-month hiatus for June and July.

S.W.O.R.D has had like no build-up towards the gala. This is 100% a Duggan and Hickman joint

Whatever material they're farming is likely to have a big reveal at the gala and I bet the SWORD team has a lot to do in planet-size. I think SWORD has been a lead-in to the gala this whole time.

I mean, SWORD has just been dealing with knull and the snarks, that's it, no gala stuff. Mysterium will be revealed next issue according to solicits, so probably at the gala, sure (though maybe behind the scenes). And Planet-Size is all about the main X-Men and whatever they're cooking up on mars, i doubt there'll be much SWORD stuff, and if there was, Ewing would be co-writing.

Meanwhile Duggan and Hickman have been preparing the gala for a while now. Giant-size Magneto, Jumbo Carnation, several marauders issues, the elections...

Excellent points! I cannot wait until we figure out wtf is up with the mysterium.

Marauders #10

- Mission to retrieve Forge's old inventor buddy from the Russians goes smoothly, with some lewd tactics from Emma.
- The X-Men / Marauders have a UFO so that's a thing.
- Was really expecting them to kill Forge's buddy because of the knowledge he has, but I guess being mind wiped and having to live off in Krakoa for the rest of his life works too.
- Seems they are going with "kitty is really dead and can't ressurect" angle, which I know isn't true because I know she's around but still, I'm interested in what's going on and how they will deal with Shaw.

Excalibur #10

- Things finally get interesting (to me) as Jamie can't help being an asshole and breaks reality creating various splinters, so you have a splinter where Krakoa is at war with London, where a splinter Betsy dies wich creates yet nother splinter where the rest of the team all turn into Captain(s) Britain.
- Gambit, Jubilee, Rogue and Rictor all look dope in their Captain Britain costumes.
- This whole story is very messy because on top of the Arrako Coven story you now have Jamie making alternate realities and also the Citadel folk not very happy, but it's a fun mess and I'm finally actually enjoying the book so /shrug
- No Apocalypse this time so -600 points.

New Mutants #10

- Russian nightmare reality warping powers continue to grow out of control as she captures half the team and traps them in the nightmare bubble.
- Lot's of talking here as Doug and the rest of the kids show up to save the day. Funny scene where Wildside jokes that all they do is talk.
- More good stuff with Boom Boom, I'm liking her in this book even if she's a bit of a dick. Also continue to really like Doug in everything he shows up in.
- Rescue mission goes badly and now most of the team is stuck inside the nightmare bubble as the Russian army moves in to attack the few remaining New Mutants. I guess it's time for Magik to come save everyone.

Yeah, that sounds like GotG. Here's the description I found:

That's more like it, thanks!

Good spot, I totally missed that. The fourth one was pushed back to June, there's nothing before that.

I 👏WANT 👏CLAREMONT 👏X-MEN LEGENDS 👏

I'm very happy that Fabian Nicieza got to finally tell his Adam-X story.

I love that Louise Simonson is getting to finish her ideas for Nate, the Ship, and Apocalypse.

I'll admit as a person who got into X-Men as the X-tinction Agenda (ignoring my first comic which was Uncanny X-Men 245)

I just really want to know what Chris Claremont wants to make canon.

Will it be stuff from X-Men Classic side stories? Is it something he didn't cover in X-Men the End? Is it something he didn't cover in X-Men Forever?

Claremont defined so much of the X-Men we know and love, what is the story he didn't get to tell?

Claremont already had a whole special all to himself very recently and did jack shit with it, apparently

No thanks, as much as I love his 80s X-Men, his return in the early 2000s was underwhelming and there are writers who didn't get to return every few years for dozens of issues to tell more X-Men stories, I'd rather read more from them in Legends.

He famously wanted Destiny and Mystique to be Nightcrawler's biological parents but I can't see how that can happen now given Azazel.

Yeah that's still unfortunate.

This is fair. But those other Claremont runs have always been meant to build off the existing continuity. And unlike some writers he's not about shitting on what comes before to fit his "vision."

I would love to see what story he considers untold or unfinished.

Giant Sized X-Men: Magneto #1

- Emma needs an island, so Magneto sets out to indulge the lady (I mean, who wouldn't right?)
- Really like the simple conversations between Magneto and the local dude, always fun to see these big powerful characters just be normal with normal people.
- Turns out the island belongs to Namor, and in exchange for some underwater help, he gives up the island.
- Emma seems quite pleased with it and mentions she will "send out invitations and see who shows up", which to me sounds like more Hellfire Gala teasing. This was alright, nothing amazing and didn't particularly feel very Hickman-esque (whatever that means) but it was fine.

X-Force #10

- Wolverine, Domino and Quentin get into some Indiana Jones style temple adventures but are quickly captured by the plant dudes.
- Black Tom comes to save the day, but is in over his head even with his plant powers. I'm really liking Black Tom in this.
- "it's like you got measles but the measles is pockets" cracked me up.
- Jean confronts Beast about the whole "President son turned into botanical aberration living weapon" ordeal and isn't very happy.
- Jean and Sage come for backup and take care of the situation along with Tom, not before we get some more body horror images with Quentin being transformed into a flower coccoon like something out of Hannibal or Midsommer.
- Jean quits the team since she's a goody 2 shoes and this shady shit isnt for her, and we get actual confirmation that she's boning Wolverine when she... bones Wolverine.

X-Men #10

- Empyre tie-in. Vulcan continues to have nightmares, when he wakes up, there are two very horny ladies drinking it up. I don't know who these are, at first I thought it was Monet and someone else but the "characters in this issue" page says its "Petra and Sway" /shrug
- More plant-based enemies. Between the stuff in X-Force, those Botanical old ladies and now this, there seems to be a theme here.
- I like Vulcan casually strolling into the plant-occupied part of the Moon and just chatting it up / threatening the plant guys.
- Plant guys mess with Vulcan's mind, unfortunately that's not the best idea since he's a bit of a insane sleeper agent apparently, and he goes nuclear and kills them all. And now I'm suddenly interested in Vulcan.
- Plan guys seem to be moving in on Krakoa next which doesn't sound like the smartest idea. I liked this issue but it's weird not knowing the full context because I haven't read Empyre, and that's why I always read events, be they good or bad.

They were two of his teammates of the 2nd X-Men team revealed to have died on Krakoa (ironically) in X-Men Deadly Genesis.

Petra and Sway are his teammates from the X-Men team he was part of that Xavier covered up when they all died except for Vulcan and Darwin.

ty, added to list to read.

edit: read it, and as usual:

Of all the ongoing X titles, the one I'm struggling with the most is X Force. While the series covered important pieces of the Krakoa story, I feel the team has a cohesion problem, and for the life of me I can't give two shits about Quentin.

Am I missing something?

(For what it's worth, the Hixman era marked my actual first time of diving into X man comics since the early 90's)

New Mutants #11

- They manage to subdue the nightmare girl but it leaves the kids spent and surrounded by angry Russian army. Magik saves the lot of them at the last second tho, cause she's awesome.
- They take the kid back to Krakoa where those empath twins will help her out, and now that the kids aren't split into space team and earth team, this book sorta-kinda feels super bloated tbh. I get this is a who's who of New Mutants and Generation X but yeah, could use with some character trimming imo.
- I do like this alt-right-esque Dox website angle tho, which they will tackle next it seems.

Wolverine #3

- Really liking the back and forth between present Logan wtih the Pale Girl, and flashbacks to Logan's plan. Lol at drunk Magneto.
- Marauders in the house to help out Wolverine. As I said before, book continues to feel a lot more connected to the team books than any previous Wolvie solo book ever felt, which I really like.
- Oh the human dude is alright, it was just Quentin doing a psy-con. Pale Girl escapes for a future encounter im sure, but I like the happy ending with the cop's daughter getting the Krakoan medicine (think this is the first time we actually see it used?)

Hellions #2

- Man this group has to be the worst idea ever lol. These are not stable individuals :p
- (I really need to read more Generation X to get some background on Nanny and Orphan Maker)
- I love Empath. Greycrow doesn't tho so he shoots him in the face lo >_<
- I didn't care for Fallen Angels but I'm really liking cold-ass Psylocke here. And just as I was about to say that Havok feels like the odd man out in this, he literally says that himself so I guess that's the point so good on you book.
- we got Zombie marauders (the OG bad ones, not Kitty's new team) and Maddie in the house.
- Hellions vs Marauders is a fantastic tussle with a bunch of funny shit, especially with Nanny. Also, BAD WILDCHILD! Man I'm loving this book.

Nanny and Orphan Maker were more of Claremont Era X-Men villain. Long before Generation X

Cable #2

- Dating Quintuplets cannot be a good idea kid >_>
- I like this kidnapped baby stuff, feels very mundane, very cop procedural. Space Knights come crashing in to ruin things tho and take Cable and Esme.
- Wait the Cuckoos can turn to diamond like Emma?
- Great scene with Cyclops and some cops mimicking a similar earlier scene with Cable and the same cops. I love Duggan's writing.
- Not sure what's going on with these old man Cable interludes but I'm actually really liking this book, again, surprisingly so.

X-Factor #1

- Oh here's Northstar, was wondering what was going on with him. I'm really liking the writing in this, very snappy. He senses Aurora dying and sets out to gets her back but needs "proof of death" for her to be ressurected as we've established. Lots of great dialogue between him, the ressurection five, Sage, Blob at the bar etc. Like I said, really liking the writing. Love the art too.
- oh it's a "mutant P.I." book? that's kinda dope, reminds me of the Multiple Man X-Factor run. Polaris, Rachel (and her Warwolf pup), Eyeboy and Daken? I'm very down with this team. I don't know who this Prodigy dude is tho.
- Polaris in civies looks fantastic. In fact, all of them in normal clothes is really cool and IO kinda hope that's what they always wear but I doubt it.
- Daken is a huge slut. Loving Rachel's attitude too. And Daken. Who writes this anyway, this is super fun.
- Amazing Baby.
- Love this idea of Krakoa having various "departments", it really makes sense in the grand scheme of things.
- I absolutely loved this first issue, and between this one and Hellions starting late, it's thrown a big wrench in my overall rankings for all the books heh.

Nanny and Orphan Maker were more of Claremont Era X-Men villain. Long before Generation X

no shit? huh

he can basically learn any skills and knowledge (medical, fighting, art, etc) from people near him and retain that knowledge. He got depowered by W*nda and never recovered his powers but between his last appearance and now he apparently died and got revived with powers
also he's bi

Of all the ongoing X titles, the one I'm struggling with the most is X Force. While the series covered important pieces of the Krakoa story, I feel the team has a cohesion problem, and for the life of me I can't give two shits about Quentin.

Am I missing something?

(For what it's worth, the Hixman era marked my actual first time of diving into X man comics since the early 90's)
They definitely have cohesion problems. It's up there with Excalibur in terms of, we're informed that they're a team but we don't really see them being a team.

I will say, though, I've liked the recent Quentin-focused issues far more than the ones which actually star X-Force, and I've never liked Quentin up to this point.
But Wolverine and Beast have negative appeal for me, so it was nice to have a focus on other people, and to have Jean back briefly.

New Mutants, vol. 2 #4 (October 2003)

He was a big part of the 2004 New X-Men.

That explains it as I never read that. Anyway, almost done with Dawn of X stuff, and it seems X of Swords is next / soon.

Giant Sized X-Men: Fantomex #1

- This as really good as we take a trip down memory lane throughout various decades of Fantomex infiltrating The World.
- Hickman's writing is on point in this one, as is the art. I always liked Fantomex, I really need to go back and re-read Morrison's New X-Men one of these days.
- When the various World incursion flashbacks finally catch up to present day, it's because Storm is dying and they need to go in The World to save her, so I take it this is that "timebomb virus" she caught from the Vault some issues ago, and Fantomex / The World will be involved in that story down the line.

Marauders #11

- Funeral for Kitty as it seems they can't bring her back. Really like how legit distraught Emma is about it.
- Cool little bit with Storm and a government lady whow as in contact with Kitty about the whole Verendi thing.
- Oh nvm they figure out why Kitty couldn't ressurect (silly reason with her phasing powers but ok) so she's back lol.
- Can't wait to see what they do to Shaw.

Excalibur #11

- No splintered realities from last issue's cliffhanger which is a little confusing for now I have to say.
- Big focus on Rictor in this one, as we get more druid stuff with him and more Apocalypse stuff as he tells Rictor about his coven days (which involved the Externals).
- The team leaves the injured Shogo and Jubilee with some forrest ladies and head for the citadel to plan the Krakoan gate.
- Apocalypse's spell / plan he's been cooking up for the whole series seems to be leading to the upcoming X of Swords event so I guess this book was more important that I was giving it credit.

"The Pretender" stuff is why I don't think they're ever going to switch W@nd@ and Pietro back to being mutants in Marvel continuity.

sucks.

You know, Remender is so candid on Twitter I wonder if he's ever spoken about the specifics of that story and who mandated that decision in Uncanny Avengers.

X-Men #11

- the second Empyre tie-in, this one was fantastic as it was mostly Magneto focused, and Mags is awesome.
- we get a little tease of that creepy ass Arrako white guy before Krakoa is attacked by the Empyre plant aliens.
- the story is actually told in flashback as Exodus is telling a bunch of kids a little campfire story about their hero Magneto and how he repelled the aliens.
- Mags is all sorts of badass in this one, both leading the X-Men and facing the plant general guy (big Black Panther vs Big Skrull energy from that)
- After they defend Krakoa they leave for the Moon which I imagine happens in those Empyre: X-Men 1-4 books, which strangely aren't listed with the rest of the Dawn of X books. Anyway, this issue was awesome.

X-Force #11

- more Russian stuff, and more body horror stuff also, as the russian soldiers they took out are genetically altered to have creepy little guys inside them (which then have other little guys inside THEM and so forth, like some sort of fucked up russian doll as Beast points out).
- all hell breaks loose when a bunch of these little guys erupt from the russian soldier bodies and attack krakoa.
- there's also some sidestuff with Colossus being relunctant to get back to fighting but eventually accepting it.
- the whole thing was just a distraction so the Russians could steal the Cerebro Sword, seemingly killing Quentin in the proccess (again! how many times is the kid gonna die lol)
