Joker Becomes Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie

When I went to see Joker there were young white men in the theatre. I was shook. We need to do better.
Well deserved. Great movie. Phoenix's performance, the cinematography and score are all fucking amazing.
It's an okay film, happy for the people that love it and confused by those who claim to hate it. Money is louder than any tweet though so I suppose the majority have the film in their good graces.
Ugh, for fucks sake. Go watch the fucking thing, yeah?
Didn't care for Joker outside of the cinematography and score (and morbid curiosity), but if a byproduct of this movie is taking some more chances on what defines a "superhero" movie, maybe it works out.
It's a box office related thread. For people who like to follow/discuss box office along with the subject matter at hand.

I wouldn't be shocked if we started to see more movies like Joker that could completely stand on their own as an original story, but the superhero IP is slapped on for a cool $600m boost at the box office.
Honestly don't even see anything wrong with that. It's how the comics themselves have been written for 80 years. New authors come through and give their new take on a character we all recognize. These movies don't just have to be adaptations of the stories we've already read.
That said, I don't know how many Marvel or DC characters have the cache of a Joker, where you could get away with a low budget, R-rated character study like this without any big explosions or action in the third act.
Can we even be sure at this point though? The discourse around this thing is poisonous.
That's what really makes it impressive. Putting out good movies makes people want to see them. Who would've guessed, DC? Let's hope the streak continues.

Was a good movie; benefited from the superhero boon going on and Joker being one of the most known characters in the comic book world.

Can someone explain to me why it's not in China yet? Doesnt this get pirated anyways? So the longer they wait the more likely people will have already seen the pirated copy?
I don't think anyone is popping champagne bottles over the news. I personaly love R rated movies are being embrassed because PG13 rating is shit.

I thought it was alright I guess, mostly just depressing and the end really does seem to aggrandize his depravity vs the lead up just painting the life of a genuinely broken man.

Word of mouth around me has been good. I have avoided spoilers and $5 movie night next Tuesday is calling my name.
