There's nothing strange about his delivery at all, he does a really good job of telling a true story about his life and this very specific place and fills it with vivid details that help make it seem more real to the audience and add humor to the situation. That's what a good storyteller does and that's why he's doing it. I really can't see how you can look at this and say that he's losing it, it really seems like the kind of bad faith attack that we shouldn't be taking part in. There are so many valid things to criticize Biden that we shouldn't be swinging at windmills with dumb shit like this

When he detailed that you had to wear a bathing cap at the pool if you wore pomade, man, I felt like I was THERE.

Holy shit the intent of this thread was nothing more than harmless fun. No agenda. I didn't "fall" for anything.

Goddamn lighten up.
Nah, you knew exactly what you were doing posting this thread. And when the receipts come out, it's "I just thought it was funny! Harmless fun!" This isn't the first time members of this forum do everything they can to paint Biden as being "senile" and it's downright embarrassing at this point. People are shooketh at the fact that he's still leading in the polls and digging deep to do anything they can to make them drop...and it's not happening lol

That being said, Corn Pop is a fantastic name lmao

That's not dementia, it's just an old person story. My grandma is perfectly sound of mine and tells stories like this all the time.

Swing a chain at someone's head and it'll wrap around when it hits. I imagine it would not be pleasant.

But again, the issue there is that if you're close enough for a six foot chain to wrap around Corn Pop's head, you're also close enough to get gutted by his rusty blade.

I would have used a pipe or 2x4 or bat or something along those lines. I'm not getting the game plan with the chain.

Maybe Joe realized that and that's why he apologized. The pool guy definitely could have given him a better weapon... Or maybe gone out there with him lol.

That makes sense. But in that case it seems more like Pop pitied Biden than respected him, which kind of twists the moral of the story.

I guess as long as there was peace at the pool after the encounter that's all that counts.

Well yeah, it does make you feel like you're there... It's a weird, specific fact about a period in history when that was a practice which tells us a fair amount about the importance of maintaining one's image for the young people going to a public pool in the early 60s. And that was important because public pools were essentially the second most politically and socially charged place in American cities, behind only public schools, so personal presentation was an active choice with significant consequences.

I can't tell whether you're trolling or not, those kind of random details are a major way that people connect to and remember historic stories. It's why nonfiction and historical fiction is filled with weird little facts. While that detail may not do anything for you, there's someone out there who would be interested by it and who would come away from the speech remembering it better because that detail spoke to them.

I'm glad I just made a joke about the porn cop image. Otherwise I'd have been shamed and forced to vote for Biden in 2020. Thank fucking god.

I think there's plenty of more touching details he could have relayed besides the fact that people wore swim caps.

I feel like I can't tell if you're trolling or not either, haha. You can take any nonsense and act like it somehow contains a wealth of interesting information. But what was he really saying here? Young people care about their appearances? Wow, really takes me back the '60s, the only time period where kids cared what they looked like.

Rambling at a place that has cultural or historic significance doesn't somehow imbue you with wisdom. And I hesitate to insinuate I know something about storytelling that you don't (clearly you're an expert), but consider that a storyteller take different approaches when writing a book versus speaking to a live audience.

All of your posts (not only in this thread) and edgy Twitter kids using the word "dementia" to describe Joe Biden's speech (that actually shows no sign of real dementia) are disgusting. Sorry for the harshness, but it is what it is.

I had to deal with people close to me affected by senile dementia and, guys, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Some people just love taking cues from the media. WHen they go on blind irrational defense, its up to the people who consume said propaganda to join the fight.

What they dont realize(or maybe they do) is that Biden isnt going to get kid gloved by trump. They are irresponsibly setting Biden up to fail big time.

Desperate leftists have to dig up old out of context videos to portray virile, quick-witted Joe as some sort of rambling old man. Just jealous because of his deserved first place position in (some of) the polls. There hasn't been any other evidence of him rambling a bunch of nonsense. No sir

I deliver tours at a major historic site, people love that kind of weird thing, but they don't love all of them. Lots of those little facts that help develop an idea of time and place will go over people's heads and that's fine, as long as they land for someone listening then they are adding meaningful value to the presentation. If it didn't work for you then that's too bad I suppose, to be honest I wish Biden talked like this more often because it's far more interesting than the trite platitudes that fill his politically focused speeches

People who have opted to take a tour at a historic site is a widely different audience than a group at a public pool christening.

I think the swim cap aside is because the implication is Corn Pop was wearing one and that's what inspired Biden to call him Esther Williams, a famous swimmer/actress.

That makes way, way more sense than him using that to instill a sense of time and place. I haven't heard of Esther Williams and had no idea what he meant when he used her first name, seems like it would have been wise to spend less time on random details and more explaining his antiquated references.

Don't just assume anyone who thinks this video is totally fine is a Biden stan. I'll absolutely agree that the guy isn't good at speaking, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree that every thread saying Biden did something stupid is valid just because the OP says it is. It's a two year old video of Biden telling a kinda poorly told story from his youth that took place at the same location where he was giving his speech. It's fine.

Its become an unfortunate trend with Biden in this election cycle to make "mistakes" and come off as, if not outright portray himself as, very incompetent with offput ramblings about nothing...and its terrifying for some of us who think people pushing this guy are gonna screw us in 2020 if he against all hope gets the nomination.

Its fair game to criticize or comment on what the man might or might not be experiencing when it was less than 2 days ago he went into a rambling tangent about record players in regards to a question on his racist backround(which is probably why this story is coming back up now). We do it all the time with our current President, the Presidential candidates in question who we are looking at for next in line should be no different.

When we're talking about the fucking highest office in the world and the consequences of not taking this shit seriously its insulting to act like we're playing games here and giving these people passes.

Especially when just a few months ago, it was all fair game to go after other candidates in the race on their age without any hint of irony despite them having no such issues Biden is seemingly having now.

Regardless of what you personally feel about this individual story, you should think about that, especially in the context of how the media will enable Biden by giving him passes when he does actually fuck up consistently.

The problem with this is that I don't see myself as "giving him a pass" when I don't agree that there's any problem here. The speech is comprehensible and is perfectly within context of the entire point of his speech and the ceremony he was giving it at. It's a tabloid trash headline on an out of context video.

Wait, I'm honestly genuinely confused. Someone help me out.
'
So when I first saw the video making the rounds on Twitter a few hours ago. I didn't think the story was fake, at all. I just thought it was Biden telling another boring, out-of-touch story using language that emphasized how old he is. I also laughed at how all the kids standing behind him looked completely uninterested.

And I'm pretty sure the person I follow on Twitter who posted that video had a similar read.

So where did it come from that people thought Biden was lying and that evidence of the existence of Corn Pop was some sort of damning receipt?

Why does everything have to be so complicated? I just thought it was a ridiculous story.

(My grandfather's nickname was "Hollywood" btw which...is really boring in comparison)

Interesting. I watched the speech earlier and it's the only detail I remember, besides of course Corn Pop.

Still sounds like a Grandpa Simpson story though lol.

A few people thought it was fake because they didn't believe someone would have the nickname "corn pop". I've seen a lot of people here point to it and say it's evidence of dementia. The fact is it is neither.

I Didn't think silly nicknames back in the day were only a black thing.

Sounds about right.

Why isn't shit like this bannable? I see OP pretending this is just a wacky story he wanted to share, but it's clear from the framing of both the OP and the tweet that we are supposed to believe that this context-less clip is supposed to be another 'point of concern' for Senile Joe. It's a clip about a local story that made sense to the crowd, AND it's fucking years old. It's blatant misinformation and just continues to feed into ERA's all-encompassing hate boner for Biden.

I'll be sure to tell them the time a bunch of people wanted to be remembered as "ElecticBlanketFire" and "dark_prinny" and "Reverse Giraffe" and they all wondered why someone would call themselves "Corn Pop."

Talking about things that your audience can relate to is a pretty basic component of successful public speaking, so I doubt I'll have much trouble keeping this advice in mind.

Watched my grandmother fall into dementia right before my eyes and Biden doesn't look anything like that. For fucks sake the gaffes aren't even new, it's been a tick of his for decades.

There's so much to legitimately criticize about him, so the fact that so many people keep falingl back on the senile line is fucking baffling for me.
