The greatest game show of all time begins it's 37th(!) season one week from Monday. Along with covid measures such as more distance between podiums, Ken Jennings now has a full role on the time. He'll be presenting his own categories starting with the episode on the 15th.

This is speculation on my part, but it seems like Alex is beginning to groom Ken to take over as host. It's sad, but Alex's health is top priority. Between coronavirus, his battle with cancer, and age, it makes sense for him to be looking forward to retirement.

Finally, Jeopardy is now hosting an "anytime test." It's purpose is similar to the old online tests, which they use to find contestants. However, this test can be done anytime anywhere, making it much more convenient. People who pass are randomly selected to proceed to the next round, which takes place on Zoom.

Are you glad to have something new to watch Era? Will you try the online test in hopes of making it on? Will Brad Rutter face Ken Jennings in a steel cage match to take his job? Discuss.

Ken Jennings was the only person that could take over for Alex Trebek in my opinion so this makes sense. Also FUCK YEAH to Alex still have the strength to host this show!

Ah, this might explain why ABC is having a hard time getting Ken to be one of the chasers on their version of The Chase.

I don't know how Ken Jennings would do, but it seems to me that being a great presenter for a game show is a completely different skillset than knowing all the trivia and being fast with the buzzer.

Hell Yeah, Ken is the king of Jeopardy so it makes sense, he's also pretty funny so should be a fun take on hosting.

Doesn't Ken Jennings already have a game show? I'm not opposed to him taking over. It doesn't really matter who takes over, it was never going to be the same without Trebek. Time will pass and Ken will become this gen's Alex Trebek (if he does indeed become the new host).

Edit: His game show is Master Minds on the Game Show Network. I haven't seen it. May check it out to see how he functions as a host.

Building Ken into Jeopardy's replacement goldfish makes sense in as much as would Brad or any of the other charismatic super-champions. They know the trivia and how the game works, which establishes authenticity. But they can handily maintain Alex's kind of old-man energy when need be (ideally without Trebek's casual out-of-touch assertions).

I hope all the best things for Alex if it means he gets to do a bit of this and all the other things he can while facing pancreatic cancer. But it makes sense to have a successor lined up and keep the show going.

I have no problems with Ken set to be the next host. Hope he does well.

Would actually love to see them utilize Ken, Brad, Austin, Holzhauer, and a few of the others as well still in some role for the show.

My partner and I recently blitzed through it all of what they have up on Netflix. What's weird is we got better the more we watched. I've been waiting to start watching in real time now, since bar trivia has been missing these past few months, and I have an itch to scratch.

What's so special about Alex Trebek? I've watched some episodes on Netflix and all he does is read clues and make a little bit of small talk. Not everyone can do that but it's also not a rare talent.

As much as it would suck to see Alex go, I would be 100% okay with Ken taking over if that's what the thinking is.

I don't know if this is actually grooming him for the role, but Ken is as good a replacement as any that I can think of.

I really don't think Ken is a good fit. I get that he's highly associated with the show but don't think he's the guy to take over.

Ken is the correct choice. Hopefully he stays in a side role for a long time though and Alex can stay relatively well.

This is great news - was so bummed when they stopped airing new episodes.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Jeopardy has a certain rhythm and vocabulary that your mind learns to process more quickly and ably - it's similar to crossword puzzles in that way for me. You start figuring out where they are leading you with certain phrasing and context clues.

Same, my wife and I watched everything on netflix and hulu. Were ready to enter the fray. My parents watch every night and I'm sure are stoked for the return.

I think Ken will make a fine host personally

Makes sense. Still hope Alex is doing well. I'd like him to enjoy retirement.

Makes sense. Had a feeling Ken was gonna get the gig after he won the best of the best thing a few months back.

Speaking of how cool he is, I don't know if ABC will want him as the face of Jeopardy considering his political views

Ken Jennings on Reddit AMA said:
I'm not particularly centrist, but I am probably the world's most prominent Trotskyite Mormon. All wealth should be stripped from the hands of the capital class--except game show winners, who got theirs fair and square.

Ken Jennings political views actually introduced me into the socialist interpretation of the White Horse Prophecy along with the Law of Consecration.

Can he snootily correct guests pronunciations and crap on their interests as well as Alex? That's an important part of the show for me.

Yeah, it's fascinating that socialism and Mormons go way back, and their swerve into hardline conservative politics was even more of a recent thing than with protestant evangelicals.

https://inthesetimes.com/article/mo...anders-rally-church-of-latter-day-saints-utah

The Mormon church does have some history of incubating socialist ideals. In the mid 1800s, the Church started the United Order, a social program that distributed property and goods among members. It faded by the early 20th century, but socialist thought persisted in Utah for decades after. In the early 1900s, an estimated 40% of the Socialist Party's Utah membership was Mormon. Mormons, however, still faced persecution, and Church leadership discouraged socialist beliefsā€”fearing the ideas could prevent members from assimilating into mainstream America, a goal of the Church. By the Cold War, leadership adamantly denied the United Order was a form of socialism.

Political pluralism remained common among Mormons until Ezra Taft Benson, a militant anti-communist, became president of the Church in 1985. Under Benson's leadership, the Church began actively supporting conservative politics.

We're kind of getting off topic here, but you bring up a good point about how hesitant ABC might be make him the face of Jeopardy. I guess time will tell.

I'm all for this. Ken is a major part of Jeopardy history and seemingly a great guy. I'm sure Alex would be honored to pass the torch to him.
