PHOENIX — As Arizona has been experiencing a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases, a Valley man says his family has been especially impacted by the virus.

"Very frustrating, very painful," Ricardo Aguirre said.

Aguirre says one family member after another has been infected.

"Some people just don't get it this is real. Five family members have died. Myself, my wife, my kids, my brothers, have all tested positive. How many more people have to die?" Aguirre said

Jesus, this is so depressingly tragic.

Sadly, it's not until people have their own friends and family not only infected but dead, that they will finally take this seriously. By then, it'll have been too late. At this point, just keep watch for yourself. Politicians obviously don't give a fuck.

I'm absolutely mortified for this family.
Seeing your own loved ones fall ill to the covid-19 and feeling powerless that not enough is being done to help with the situation, it must be very depressing.
I hope he'll be okay.

That's awful. Is this just really bad luck, or do genetics play a significant role in one's response to the virus?

In addition to Ducey, the statements from the women who runs the health department in AZ have been so, so bad.

life must go on!

Except for you, and you, and your nana, and your Auntie.

Because we don't want to enforce any fucking rules. I get looks for wearing a mask depending on where I am. Today at Subway there was 20 people with no masks and only one worker had one.

Phoenix.

It's not even over yet. So many families will be affected by this disease by year's end.

20 people at Subway the restaurant? I've never seen a busy one so I had to ask.

oh yes, they get pretty busy around here at lunch. The line was about 8 people thick or so, but some had kids, and then there were people sitting at the tables.

Meanwhile I have customers on the daily nearly mad at me because I'm wearing a mask (still mandated by my company, but I'd wear it either way). This is just outside Phoenix.

I'm so worried about Arizona since my wife's parents live there. They're being really cautious but if things get bad there's always a chance.

I don't see masks hardly at all anymore here in AZ. Got friends that want to hang out and parents that want to get kids together. It's infuriating.

"Five family members have died" is super confusing, you're right

Well, that's one way to disregard the actual words I wrote. Congrats?

It's an awkward jump from five died to singling out infected family members. Why jump down their throat for possibly confusing it? They immediately corrected.

GOP: "Their just POC's, who cares, open the stores, support the arrow".

Mark my words, nothing significant will happen until young rich white people start getting sick, which means that there's a good chance that nothing will be done at all.

It really is a shame how this state completely forgot everything and threw caution into the wind. I'm up north camping and drove through a car show in Williams, streets were packed and we counted one person wearing a mask. I saw more confederate and trump flags than people wearing masks...

Let them burn? I'm talking about the trumpers and the racists that are flying the confederate flags, not folks that are just there.

Let them burn doesn't work when they're just going to spread that shit to everyone they meet.
I still stand by my statement of letting them burn. Although, it would be terrible for them to spread it to other folks, but it's not like that isn't already going to happen since so many were sighted to not have worn any masks and/or social distancing.

I would tell Ricardo Aguirre that his elected leaders want his family to die because of the color of his skin... and that action will not be taken until politicians are faced with the same consequences as him.

Things are getting worse in the States, this isn't the time to throw your hands up and say "well we did everything we could I guess we're fucked". Every day this is just going to spread more unless serious action is taken.

You're totally right on that we should do something about it, but as an individual, I can only make sure that I, and those around me, are practicing caution during this very terrible time. At the same time, I am not a resident of Arizona and Phoenix, and I cannot make any meaningful change in that region. So, please genuinely forgive me that I have one iota of care for these Trump thumping dipshits for not treating the pandemic seriously.

I'm not suggesting they are totally to blame, but their elected officials as well as being part of the Trump Cult has failed them. But, on the otherhand they drank the cool-aid, so in another sense, they are getting what they themselves contributed to.

I'm just glad and fortunate enough that I reside in SF county, and generally speaking, we are doing a great job in containing the spread and flat-lining new daily cases. I would wish that more states/counties have competent elected officials, but that's not the reality. So, the only thing I can do is throw my hands up when and say "fuck it" when I see spiking of cases in different regions of the country because these are the same people that put their elected officials into their positions to begin with (again the ones that voted for them, not the ones that voted against).

All this may seem like I'm being incredibly callous to those that are suffering, and let me assure you that I'm not. I'm simply looking at the silver-lining of this terrible situation since different regions have different customs/laws/norms, and all I can do is facepalm whenever I come across information like these and subsequently move on with my life.

You sound like a sociopath, TBH. I live in Phoenix, am extremely anti-Trump (and Ducey), and could be at higher risk when I go to the supermarket because of these people's reckless behaviors. I'm glad to hear that in your mind I'm just collateral damage in a grand political battle. If California does something I'm not a fan of I don't root for a massive earthquake to ravage SF because I'm not a sociopath.

Where in any of my posts on this thread suggests that I'm rooting for people's misery? My original comments are let the Trumpers and confederate flag bearers burn because they reap what they sown, while also saying those that are neither of those people should not.

I can understand and relate to you on how you and your loved ones are personally at risk because of dipshits in your area are not taking covid seriously.

The post you quoted is essentially me verbally shrugging because there's literally nothing I and many can do. If me shrugging because there's nothing I can do makes me a sociopath, then I guess that's what I am.

You said let them burn.
Another poster made the point that if they burn (catch COVID) they will spread it among the community. You said that you still want them to burn (get COVID) and that the community is complicit for voting in bad leaders. That's a shocking lack of empathy, IMO.
