I checked in on my Tumblr feed.

Anybody thinking about coming back better hurry up. All the artist communities I follow are shutting the gates and getting the spears out. 🤣

Took us years to fix Tumblr. Y'all not bringing that shit here.
How strict are they about tossing people into horny jail these days? I might consider going back, at this point.

Anyways it'll take some time for this to happen right? Honestly at some point if Musk tries to make a lot big changes that the employees don't like, he's going to lose a lot of talent. The tech job market is plenty hot right now, so I'm sure if Twitter employees got annoyed they could jump ship easily.

In What BioShock timeline do I live in? Looks like another dystopia caused by a demented libertarian.

Again, i don't know what ethnicity, gender, religion anyone here prescribes to so if you want to paint me as someone who is trying to minimize the concern of minorities, well, i'm confident we both know what you're doing and why. But hey, you do you.
Musk is literally trying to push out moderation so anyone can do whatever they want without repercussions under his false belief of "freedom of speech". He actively wants to enable nazis and bigots to take over the platform and make it hell for anyone with progressive values.

Or one billionaire asshole runs the platform in much the same way that a collection of billionaire assholes ran it and nothing much changes.

I get that people hate Musk because he's an extremely high-profile asshole billionaire, but it's not like he's usurping some fine upstanding philanthropists who charitably ran Twitter for the good of humanity.
Agreed, but the major distinction is the former owners had some fiduciary responsibility to keep Twitter profitable for shareholders which worked to apply pressure to occasionally force their hand to do the right thing (way after it should have been done...).

A Musk owned private company Twitter is under no such obligation so there's no real pressure to do what publicly owned Twitter would have to.

Twitter was my favorite social media. Genuinely funny, witty, and thoughtful contributors.
I'm not sticking around. Accounts are gone now.

The moderation was always far from perfect. But the people who were kicked off the platform generally deserved it.

It is wild that Musk wants to "authenticate human" Twitter users when there's good reason to believe that the similar requirement on Facebook is one of the primary causes for its decline. He really knows nothing about social media beyond what he sees on his timeline.

Will be interesting how Musk's plan for less moderation clashes with stricter EU rules for online platforms:

The EU has agreed on another ambitious piece of legislation to police the online world.

Early Saturday morning after hours of negotiations, the bloc agreed on the broad terms of the Digital Services Act, or DSA, which will force tech companies to take greater responsibility for content that appears on their platforms. New obligations include removing illegal content and goods more quickly, explaining to users and researchers how their algorithms work, and taking stricter action on the spread of misinformation. Companies face fines of up to six percent of their annual turnover for non-compliance.

"The DSA will upgrade the ground-rules for all online services in the EU," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a statement. "It gives practical effect to the principle that what is illegal offline, should be illegal online. The greater the size, the greater the responsibilities of online platforms."

Margrethe Vestager, the European Commissioner for Competition who has spearheaded much of the bloc's tech regulation, said the act would "ensure that platforms are held accountable for the risks their services can pose to society and citizens

Google, Meta, and others will have to explain their algorithms under new EU legislation

The EU’s new legislation is designed to explain the web to users.

Is Tumblr hitting again?

I actually think so!

It's much quieter than it's pre-2014 years. But the quality of content and community interaction, at least in my little corner, is way better.

They've also loosened up on the adult restrictions and censoring (although, the policies are technically still there). Obviously, this is good for more than just porn.

Public shareholder leverage has a better chance at postively affecting environmental, social, and governance board decisions than a private single erratic owner. So sure, technically there is a chance he will run it better, but these two situations are not the same.

People are laughing but it's crazy how irrelevant trump has become since he got banned from twitter. I don't read or see anything about him unless I actively seek it.

Edit: and I haven't. I think I've watched or heard trump a total of 1 minute since Biden became president and he got banned From twitter
Must be nice. He's still all over the place.

I went to look at Elons account on twitter and the "recommended topics" are 90% cryptocurrencies, 5% normal topics and 5% Joe fucking Rogan. Disgusting.

Fuck this shit.

Won't be shocked if challengers enter the space (not the stupid shit Trump was trying to pull off).

if you are staying, please stay safe. twitter will become unbearable for minorities in the next few weeks.
I'm definitely staying until I'm pushed out. I doubt it will get that far, but there's too much that's important to me in my twitter circles to ditch it immediately.

What would be the steps you would recommend for someone to try to join the tumblr community?

There's something called the Digital Services Act in EU that will prevent him to do what you say. Twitter has already reached quite its limit in term of free speech, and unless Musk wants to go to war against the EU, he won't be able to do much.

Is he planning a 2024 presidential run? Controlling one of the biggest social media platforms would give him a big unfair advantage.

This implies that regulations has ever stopped him.

He doesn't. He only relatively recently discovered Bitcoin, when it's been around for a long time.
He should be too busy with Tesla and SpaceX to be "dialed in".
