Its still very over the top in japanese.

But 厄災 is calamity in this context. Its the same word used to describe Ganon.

From what I can gather, the fake 4chan leaks were using stupid sounding subtitles for Zelda games...

I.e - The Legend Of Zelda: Shard Of Nightmare.
The Legend Of Zelda: Valley Of The Flood.

The actual subtitle for the new Musou Zelda game in Japanese is -
hyrule warriors: Apocalypse Of Disaster.

"Apocalypse of Disaster" is such a stupid, redundant name though; its basically equivalent to "Myth of the Legend"

I think the reason it sounds cheesy is because you've picked the most basic possible translation :P

Really it means something like "The apocalypse caused by the calamity" (calamity being a reference to calamity ganon I guess), it's just that idea is expressed in a more compact form that doesn't work so well in English.

厄災の黙示録 translated as something like "Revelation of Calamity" sounds fine to me? A bit flowery I guess.

"Apocalypse of Disaster" is the kind of overly literal translation you would find in a leak. "Calamitous Apocalypse" is a more accurate one.

Doesn't fit the joke of the thread, but I felt like I had to point it out.

Err.. what are you talking about? 厄災 is calamity here, it's the same as in English. 黙示録 is Revelation as in like the Old Testament book (ヨハネの黙示録), so the entire title is a clever play on how this is the kind of history you hear about long ago in BotW of the old world / heroes etc. It's one of the best Zelda titles in Japanese for a while imo.

It does, because "mokushiroku" is written in kanji, so the actual meaning ("records of uncovering") is evident.
Quick reminder that the original meaning of "apocalypse" is "uncovering" ("apokálypsis"), not "big catastrophe" ("emmerichdisásterporn").

So "Age of Calamity" is actually a pretty good translation

Yep, at first thought I would've gone for 'Revelations of Calamity' but I suppose whoever chose the title either thought that maybe the reference to the Book of Revelations might not read as easily in English, or maybe the western Nintendo / KT teams wanted to steer clear of any controversy from introducing Judeo-Christian imagery in Zelda. Either way they opted for the more neutral 'Age' which is fine too.

How could you leave out Reins Of Sorrow/Bridle Of Melancholy? For shame.

If the joke is that the title is redundant, then yeah, it's pretty funny.

Threads like this could be avoided if you don't just dump any Japanese you find into Google Translate.

What's "Valley of the Flood"?

Is this a game set in the 100 years after Ocarina when Ganon returns but there is no hero? I very much would like to play that game.

Yeah that sure is some specifically generic crap. S' funny because some fake subtitles work, some don't, such as:

Waltz of Solitude
Melody of Disquiet
Minuet of Rui- hey hold on a minute, this is the wrong list, this is the list of Castlevania knock-off names
