1) Play with headphones on
2) Unless I'm missing something I don't understand what the OS has to do with a discussion on graphics?

Yeah, I think that like Horizon this is gonna be excellent graphics but mostly elevated by its art style.

I don't recognise some of these. Can you tell me what that games are? Most numbers 2, 6, 7, 8.

I edited my post right below ;p

Just in this month alone between FFVIIR demo (PS4 Pro), RE3R demo (PC), Doom Eternal (PC) and the stunningly gorgeous Ori 2 (PC) my mind has continually melted with awesome visuals. Not to mention revisiting Control again on PC with raytracing.

Hot damn Dumbmugi, I need to upgrade to a 4k display and I can't wait for the next gen consoles!

I have already invested in a good 4K screen (Oled panasonic 65 ') and with the Pro and the One X there is already a good gap with the start of this gen in 1080p .. but yes the arrival of the next gen will be totally crazy oO

Edit: I edited my post above ^^

The first time I saw the TLOU PT 2 gameplay demo it floored me. It didn't look next-gen, per se, but the animation transitions were so seamless that it shocked me a bit. The first time I flew around the WARZONE map really impressed me as well. The 1:1 scale and density, the intelligent GPU culling and tile streaming system it employed. All super impressive stuff.

I'm ready for next gen though.

I still think this gen has some juice in it. Not gonna jump to the new boxes until late next year.

Current gen can still blow me away but I won't say no to more powerful boxes. FF7R would be even more gorgeous if it was native 4K.

Why not both?

RDR2 set the bar but it still impresses me even now, and no doubt will the games coming out this year. Doesn't mean we can't be excited NG though.

I'm interested in the other "quality-of-life" improvements of next-gen (faster load times, instant resume, etc.) more than I am slightly prettier graphics, to be honest. I think the current-gen graphics are still pretty impressive.

I'll be impressed again when my bullets and grenades actually start doing damage to stuff I hit.

Don't care too much about even more pixels and particles anymore honestly.

It will probably get a PS5 version pretty quickly, hence why im maybe not going to buy the PS4 version, i have doubts Sony will do next gen patches like MS.

Still very impressed, started AC Odyssey on the pro recently and damn that game looks gorgeous at times. Next gen should be spectacular.

Not gonna lie the games still look absolutely incredible, there is none of that exhausted feeling I had in 2011-2012 with all the UE3 games looking similar and being so prevalent in that awful (sub) 720p.

Impressive considering these consoles were declared outdated when they were released, can't imagine what they'll do next gen now that we know both are beasts.

Amazing looking, I wish Driveclub and The Order 1886 received a 4K upgrade, hopefully on PS5.

I was recently very very impressed when I played through GoW for the first time. The graphics and art style really amazed me. There were plenty of times where I would just stand still for a bit and take in the sights.

I feel like next gen is going to be insane.

It's odd this time around. I don't know if it's because the PS360 generation prepared me for it, but I still feel good with the PS4. Sure, I would appreciate some QoL improvements that can only come with new hardware, but things are still pretty solid. With the PS3 and 360, I was ready for next gen. That generation felt old in 2013 which was the 360's 8th year and the PS3's 7th year. We're working on year 7 with the current gen and that fatigue isn't there.

The last game that truly impressed me with graphics was either Horizon Zero Dawn at release or Red Dead Redemption 2. It won't get prettier this generation.

Don't get me wrong, there's been some impressive looking games since 2019 but I feel almost all the best looking games came out in 2018. Spider-Man, Detroit, Red Dead 2 and Far Cry 5 just to name a few. Feels like since then overall we've gone a step backwards.

I am still impressed but I can't wait for Next-Gen.
There's people disappointed by PS5's GPU but it's because Xbox Series X is more powerful than people expected, not because PS5 is weak.
I think we will be surprised by the quality of Next-Gen graphics.

Currenty playing COD Warzone and Doom Eternal and I'm still impressed by this gen's graphics. Both these games look great, even running on launch PS4 and Xbone.

I'm more rarely impressed.
Doom Eternal looks fantastic.
I suspect TLoU2 will blow my mind.

But it's easy to see where they have cut corners and held back these days (i.e. scope).

Still impressed. Ps4 slim here. So even that lockhart thing would be enough (if it supported at least ps4pro 4k level to enjoy on my 4k capable tv)

my PC is a billion times more powerful than my PS4 pro yet (framerate aside) spiderman, death stranding and RDR2 were at least as graphically impressive as anything i've seen on there.

i'm ready for new console hardware but that's more in anticipation of it raising the bar for PC. i don't expect huge visual increases, because i'm not sure that'll make financial sense for anyone, but making proper use of actual CPUs and SSDs should be a game-changer.

Been getting this feeling I had with the end of the last generation.

Yeah, while the games look really good and I would be more than happy to keep playing games that look like this for a fair bit longer, I'm begging to see the limitations and the cracks.
Not even a bad thing. Just not as easily wowed by graphics alone any more.

That's why the upgrade in CPU and storage systems for the next consoles is exciting me more than how much power the GPUs have.

I've been appropriately playing The Division 2 and and have been continually impressed by the environmental detail. and how smoothly the animations gel with player control. And my PC is only running it on like high. I was impressed by walking into a lamp on the floor making the lampshade get kicked away and the lamp rolling around with the bulb spreading dynamic light. Although now that I think about it, I don't think there was a cord connected to it. Boo! I take it all back!

I saw that IGN video about what sequels they'd like to see on PS5, and those PS4 games were still looking mighty good to my eyes.

I'd be fine with plateauing. #FlattenTheCurve
But you could always up the framerate to a minimum of 60. I'll be sad if that's not effectively a standard.

30fps drops too much visual clarity in motion, so when games like RDR2 come out that have amazing visuals otherwise they have far less impact on me.

Saying that, if we had games that looked like RDR2, Horizon, GoW, etc... at 60fps+ on next gen consoles I would be more than happy. That level of visuals is more than good enough for me.

Honestly, I still have a launch PS4 (so no mid gen upgrade) and I suspect Part II and Ghost of Tsushima will blow me away again. So unlike last gen I wouldn't need a next generation right now. I'll still happily take it, but I'm not clamoring for it or anything.

Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5 continue to blow my mind. Also LoU2 around the corner so I don't feel like we've exhausted the generation.

In fact, every time I boot up RDR2 I'm stunned. It's the greatest visual accomplishment this industry has achieved, I'm continually amazed when playing.

The difference in power is less than it was between the Pro & X, it will be fairly negligible to be honest.

DMC5 came out. How are you not impressed?
Character model is the only thing that is good, everything else was average at it's best, but i do give it a discount given It was aiming for 60 FPS.

As for the topic, yes i'm still impressed to this day, even early gen games are beautiful still, indie and triple A alike.

Graphics don't really impress me these days I feel we've been at diminishing returns for a while.

VR however is amazing. But that can really use a bit more grunt so bring on next gen for that reason only for me personally

At the end of the 6th generation, i was kind of ok with the propect of getting OG Xbox-level graphics but with hd resolution.

At the end of 7th gen, i was satisfied with the idea of getting Uncharted/Tlou level of graphics with steadier frame rate and 1080p.

At the end of this gen, i can't really think about getting anything better than we're already have right now.

Oh yeah, I've been impressed loads of times in the last year; Doom Eternal, Ori and The Will of Wisps, Gears 5, RE2, The Division 2, DMC 5, Days Gone and so on.
You can add RE3 to this list for me. Seeing that and Doom Eternal this week tells me that this generation isn't close to tapped out. Usually by now you have games failing to hold 30 fps in order to crowbar in new graphical techniques that are slightly beyond the hardware. Late gen games from the last few gens regularly had this problem. Instead we have RE engine and ID tech 7 looking better and better and targeting 60 fps.

That said, ray tracing on PC also shows me that we've got some huge improvements to look forwards too. Control and Youngblood both look amazing.

I think visuals still look great. SSD and CPU are things I am most excited for. Hopefully more games target 60fps and actually maintain that and regular loading screens and hidden loading go away.

I also think reconstruction techniques should continue to be used and improved on. Using all the extra GPU power to hit native 4K could be be put to better use instead.

Not sure about Ray tracing if it is going suck up massive GPU resources. Full implementation of that is probably a gen away on console or maybe mid-gen pro versions.
