I read a french preview of the demo displayed at E3. The reviewer is alarmed by Shenmue III flaws. He points out nothing has changed, as Ryo facial animations are lacking, and he does not express feelings nor motions. This issue, he says, impacts exploration and conversation with NPCs. Ryo is compared to an old star who has aged and is on a wheelchair.
So animations are a huge fiasco.
Fights are not better, he adds, as they are still too mechanical and inferior to the old QTE design present in previous episodes. While some may like what he describes as "Virtual Fighter" light system, he finds fights less cineùmatographic. The Jackie Chan epicness is gone.
For all those reasons the game gets the lowest preview score, "alarming".
