I would disagree with most in this thread. MW 2019 is a mess. The game's facing a terrible identity crisis, attempting to ape every other shooter out there at the same time and arriving nowhere satisfying. Map design quality in MP also ranges from bad to mediocre.
The campaign was alright.
My biggest disappointment in the series since... well, Infinite Warfare.
I'd like to contrast some of your points here if only so other users thinking about buying the game can see our opinions side by side. Funny enough, I didn't like Infinite Warfare as much as everyone else either. So we've got that in common.
You're not wrong about MW borrowing ideas from other shooters but I see them all as vast and welcomed improvements. For instance, all the new maps are free! No more split players bases! Not to mention crossplay between all three platforms (PS4, XB1, PC)!
But the real star for me here is Team Deathmatch. That's my mode since the original MW and it's the main reason I continue to play the series. So the long-tail lives and dies on the maps. These are, by far, my favorite maps in years. Simply because they require
commitment. I've found the previous few games to be good enough but far too open. These new stages are down right claustrophobic, escalating the tension and creating a strong sense of paranoia. This is enforced so often in every area that once you do find the more opened areas, you'll be second guessing every corner and window.
What I'm trying to say is, these maps force players to
COMMIT to their choices. I love Titanfall 2 and Black Ops but MW won't save your butt with slides and jumps. It's about listening, looking, and shooting. If that sounds stripped down, it is! That's what makes this game so exciting. If WW2 felt like a throwback, MW is about returning to how many
remember older Call of Duty games.
I love it!
