President of Iran:

Iranian foreign minister:

Tweet with link to Iranian state media:

A military statement carried by state media said the plane was mistaken for a "hostile target" after it turned toward a "sensitive military center" of the Revolutionary Guard. The military was at its "highest level of readiness," it said, amid the heightened tensions with the United States.

"In such a condition, because of human error and in a unintentional way, the flight was hit," the statement said. It apologized for the disaster and said it would upgrade its systems to prevent such "mistakes" in the future.

It also said those responsible for the strike on the plane would be prosecuted.

General Staff of #Iran's Armed Forces has issues a statement saying that the #Ukrainian plane was "unintentionally" hit by a military site & based on "human error". The statement has offered "apology" to the families of victims & foreign nationals.

#Iran's Armed Forces statement: While the plane was turning around, it went toward a sensitive military center of #IRGC and it was at an altitude & in the shape of a hostile aircraft, in which the aircraft was inadvertently hit base on human error.#IranPlaneCrash#UkrainianPlane

I wonder if some here will now believe it was shot down by Iran themselves being that they are now admitting it.

A damn tragedy.

Need a better source.

Not being serious but I wonder if some people are still in denial. I mean this was always a very plausible situation given the timing of it all. Glad they admitted it and now they can begin to deal with the aftermath of it.

I'm assuming they realized they were going to look worse when the truth came out. What a horrible, senseless tragedy..

"unintentionally" Obviously it was intentional, they meant to shoot it down, they just didn't know what exactly it was that they were shooting down.

I'm sick. This is all so meaningless. Even more so then soldiers who "sign-up" for this shit. 200 people just living their lives are dead because of a couple of morons.

RIP to everyone.

Finally they admitted it.

I was wondering what was taking so long. It would have been far easier to simply come out with it and apologize...it does nothing to help deescelate tensions and i know they are smart enough to not want to give Trump a reason to beat the war drums even more.

Independent verficiation aside, in the face of multiple countries saying so, its something that never should have happend.

RIP to the Iranians, Canadians and everyone else on the flight. Really fucked.

It's both of their faults. Trump did something that he knew would lead to retaliation. A bunch of innocent people ended up being killed at the funeral and the Iran shot down a plane because I'm convinced the world is run by morons.
It doesn't matter what Trump did. Iran shot it down. Not Trump. It's like being in a fight and then punching a bypasser then blaming it on the guy you're fighting with. Iran is at 100% at fault, and every time people say, "Fuck Trump for starting this" it gives the impression you're not really putting the blame on Iran. They did this. Have your issues with Trump and the United States but THEY DID NOT DO THIS.

From their release:

the plane was accidentally hit by a human error, which unfortunately results in the martyrdom of dear compatriots and the death of a number of foreign nationals.

This is infuriatingly disgusting.

Statement from Iran's official news agency: https://www.irna.ir/news/83628809/اطلاعیه-ستادکل-نیروهای-مسلح-در-خصوص-سقوط-هواپیمای-مسافربری-خطوط

A statement from the Armed Forces General Staff on the crash of the Ukrainian Airlines says:

The noble and revolutionary nation of Islamic Iran;
In the wake of the heartbreaking crash of a Boeing 7 Ukrainian Airlines plane crash early Wednesday morning, in the wake of a missile attack on the US base of criminals and the possible impact of military action on the incident, the Armed Forces General Staff immediately investigated This possibility led to the establishment of an inspection team of technical and operational experts, independent of the State Airlines, to which the results of a round-the-clock review of this delegation are made available to the Honorable Iranian People:
5. Following the threats of the President and the military commanders of the criminal US to target a large number of targets in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the event of a counter-operation and in view of the unprecedented increase in air traffic in the region, the Islamic Republic's Armed Forces Potential threats were at the highest level of readiness
4. In the hours after the missile strikes, US terrorist forces' warplanes around the country increased, and some reports of air strikes targeting strategic centers in the country were reported to numerous defense units and targets on some radar plates. It has caused more sensitivity in air defense units.
2- In such critical and critical conditions, Flight 3 of the Ukrainian Airlines departs from Imam Khomeini Airport and, while in rotation, is in close proximity to a sensitive military center of the IRGC and is in the height and shape of a hostile aircraft. In these circumstances, the plane was accidentally hit by a human error, which unfortunately results in the martyrdom of dear compatriots and the death of a number of foreign nationals.
4. The Armed Forces General Condolences and Condolences to the Homeless Families and Missing Persons of Other Countries and Apologizes for the Human Error, Ensures Complete Repetition by Carrying Out Major Reforms in Operational Processes at Armed Forces Level Make such errors impossible and immediately report it to the Armed Forces Judicial Organization to deal with the errors committed legally.
2- It was also ordered that the relevant authorities in the IRGC, as soon as possible, present detailed explanations to the people of Sharif.

While it's good that they're finally admitting to it this release is full of shit. There were 0 reports of US airstrikes on targets in Iran and Flightradar24 data suggest the plane never made a turn before being hit as connection to plane was lost just 2 minutes after take-off when the plane was still flying in a straight line https://www.flightradar24.com/blog/...2-crashes-shortly-after-take-off-from-tehran/

I owe some people in the original thread an apology for saying that it was outlandish to insinuate that the Iranians shot down their own airliner.

RIP to the victims. Just about as senseless as you can get.

I mean its partly true. If tensions weren't so high people probably wouldnt have had such a trigger finger and on such an edge. It was only a matter of time before one side made a mistake

yup. America's shot down commercial aircraft too under similar circumstances murdering hundreds.

Iran fucked up, but lets not act like the logical conclusion to that missile launch wasn't eventuallly going to be senseless civilian death.

You can blame both. Trump caused a chain reaction of events that created the circumstances.

Can we fucking stop with this? This is 100% Iran's fault.

If President Fuck Knuckle of the United States didn't assasinate a foreign military leader to bribe the politicians of the United States so he doesn't get impeached, none of this shit would have happened. So no no one should "fucking stop with this" and it's not 100% on Iran.
