Despite how broke ass this game was at launch, I still absolutely loved it. One of the best experiences I've had with a RPG in a very long time.

A friend and I hopped into this because we love Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 style gameplay but never played Wasteland 1 & 2.

Add in guns, a cover system, and tons of dialogue choices that greatly change your experience, and you have a work of art.

They've done a great job patching the worst bugs out and I'm REALLY looking forward to some DLC.

Congrats to inXile! I really enjoyed my play through. Waiting for the series X to give it a second go for the better load times.

I enjoyed what I got to play in co-op for the first two-ish chapters, it was just full of jank and bugs. I couldn't get through a single session without at least 2-3 irrevocable crashes. It's been a month or two though, so I'm hoping they've ironed most of them out since.

I continue to be unimpressed with the amount of players the games on Game Pass attract.
Let's say the game sold on Steam/XB1 300k. So out of the 15M(?) subscribers only 700k tried the game? And how many of those 700k played less than a hour before they decided the game isn't for them?

crpg's are an incredibly niche genre. Combine that with the fact that it is the third installment in an old and relatively obscure franchise and there are your answers

It's buggy as hell, but still the best game of 2020. Going forward I hope they start spending longer polishing their games before release..

I've been considering this one. Will I be out of my depth if I've never played a game like this before? Should I start from the remake of the first game?

No, don't start with the remake. While the series have some connections through the games, they are self contained enough that you can easily play 3, even if you haven't played the others, but the first game is from the eighties and require a different mindset to get into. Start with 3 as that's the most modern and easiest to get into. If you become a big fan after that, give the second game a chance, but be prepared that even that will require much more effort and will test your patience in various ways. It's also more budget constrained (as an example even smaller things like character portraits, might be recurring between different characters).

Only big fans of both 2 and 3 should attempt to play through the first game, because that is dated in an entirely different way.

I was about to give this a go when I got sucked into a Crusader Kings 3 rabbit hole, not really sure now whether I'll get round to it or it will be part of my shameful forever backlog.

I guess in principle this can work out for Microsoft because niche offerings might be exactly the thing that gets a certain type of gamer to subscribe to Game Pass. The numbers seem lukewarm for a AA game that has released across three platforms and that is available as part of Game Pass on two of them. But as flavour for Microsoft's first party, it sort of makes sense.

One of the best games this year. I bought it on Steam as I wanted to own the game. I didn't experience anything overly glitchy or game breaking on PC - also zero crashes. The Steam version even received patches faster than the game pass version. The latest patch really helped a lot with load times from SSD, now they're fine.

I almost always end up with three games a year that stand above the rest and this year it is Wasteland 3 on PC and Ghost of Tsushima and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on PS4.

Not everything on Game Pass needs a crazy attach rate. It's a niche genre on a service with like 100 different options. It doesn't need to pull Halo numbers. If the devs are happy and Microsoft isn't selling the studio for parts, then they are doing what they need to be doing.

I think this is the appropriate lens to view it through.

It's weird that so many people here mention bugs and the game being unplayable, I realize it's super anecdotal, but I played at release on X1X and aside from maybe two crashes, my 40+ hour playthrough was completely fine.

It is bugged but you need to have patience. I have played on PC. Sometimes menu doesn't appear need to restart the game. Even with gamepad option checked everytime I start the game need to go inside the options and select gamepad again to work. Small things they never patched.

One of the later patches actually introduced bugs, like enemies turning invisible when using precision strike and one of the companions sliding along the ground without any animations.

This is mostly trolling, but I can't say I disagree.

When 1 million people had to pay $60 for the game in order to get to 1 million players, getting there was a lot more difficult than when there are millions of people who have it included with Gamepass.

I'm playing on X1X too and I've had tons of issues. Remember
Santa's workshop?
I cleared out that fight, but it wouldn't end the combat mode, even though I'd killed every enemy. So I couldn't progress. Had to reload a save and do that entire thing again, then I died that time, so I had to reload and do it all again....even though I cleared out all the enemies the first time. And again, if you read my post above, where I am right now is stuck inside the apartment building in Boulder (I think, sorry it's been a while), and it won't let me leave. It won't give me the button prompt to open the door to leave the building. So I'm just stuck.

The game has fully crashed on me at least a half a dozen times too. Again, though, it's a great game. I love it. I'm just waiting for Series X to go back to it.

Yikes, so playing at release was probably the best option. That's counterintuitive.

It was a bit of both, they fixed a lot of other things but those two bugs were so jarring I put aside my playthrough for a few weeks. They fixed precision strike with the last patch, but Scotchmo still slides along the ground.

On the other hand, loading times are significantly improved, sometimes they used to take up to a minute and a half, now they're 30 seconds at most.

I never was never a fan of isometric rpgs but I'm loving this one.

Just wish it wouldn't crash every 3 or so hours on my Xbox lol

Yeah, sometimes the text disappears on the title screen and you think you're about to proceed to the menus, but nothing happens. It's just endlessly stuck at the scorpion screen.

As for the controller issues, that is especially annoying, because it actually let's you press A on the controller at the title screen, so things seem fine, but as soon as you switch to the menus, the controller stops responding and you have to get the mouse, go into the options and switch it back to controller again. Something happens in that transition, that makes it go from controller to keyboard/mouse.

I had a lot of bugs on PC.

- Camera zooming in and locking randomly
- Text disappearing from the screen
- Music being super quiet or not coming on at all after loading into a new zone
- The Sniper level 10 perk causing enemies to literally not move, which forces you to reload your game (This was the WORST)
- Enemies/AI teammates successfully shooting through walls

All of these were fixed by the time I finished the game

I wonder if recent patches cleared up many of the issues. I played through the whole thing in the last week and didn't have any notable bugs, but I know early on people had a ton.

Can't wait to play on series x. Tried to co op on PC with my GF and it was literally the buggiest game I've ever played.

Half the time loading screens would just load forever, if you wanted to use a controller every time you open the game you had to switch input back to KMB and then back to controller or some buttons wouldn't work. Characters would get stuck in animation loops, fire audio becomes insanely loud and drown out everything else. And all this is on maybe 4-5 hours of play.

Who cares how difficult it is? 1 million people showing interest in a game like this is amazing. The fact GP allows a lot of users access to these games which they probably wouldn't have bought if they cost 60$ is something every fan of the genre should be excited about.
I swear, it seems like some people only care about games as compared to other games rather than the games themselves.

It's a shame that it's not getting a series X patch. Seems like every recent first party game is getting one except Wasteland 3. And it needs it.

This is also a valid perspective.

And I agree that one of the primary advantages of Gamepass is the way that it lets people try games they might not try otherwise. The future will certainly be interesting for this service.

QA wise it was the worst game I think I have ever played. Gameplay wise I loved it. Hope there's a 4th, with more money behind it for playtesting.

Personally played on PC and only encountered one bug where a quest didn't resolve in my journal, but otherwise wasa bug free experience and a great game!

Yeah it is there are exceptions but for every divinity there are a dozen wastelands or even pillars of eternity that don't sell gangbusters.

Isn't that true of every genre though?

For every pubg and fortnite there's like 25 battle royale games that don't sell anything.

I mean, yes, the genre is much smaller than FPS, but... well I guess I'm not sure niche really applies to something that has sold many millions of copies worth of games in the past 5 years or so. Gaming si so big that even "niches" are pretty sizable.

But I guess you're right compared to other genres. It's niche, but in a modern way, not like "niche" was 10 years ago when it ment games were lucky to move a few hundred thousand.

I mena right now we've got yet another isometric CRPG, in EARLY ACCESS and at full price, riding at least partly on the name of another isometric CRPG that is 20 years old, and it's selling gangbusters.

I mean niche as in much smaller than blockbuster type genres like 3rd person shooters and first person shooters.

Honestly the only isometric rpg I can think off of the top of my head that sold millions recently is divinity 2. Disco elysium was well received but I haven't heard if it selling over a million copies yet and many of these games are well received but don't sell many millions of copies like pillars of eternity. I mean pathfinder kingmaker came out in 2018 and was pretty well received and only just sold over 1 million units just this year. So I'm not sure which games you're referring to.

Played this on Gamepass from seeing good reviews. I absolutely loved the game. The writing was great along with the combat. It kinda moves really fast and uses the beat bits initially and drags a tad towards the end. There were some great character stories and wtf moments. The game has a pretty funny script too. 9/10.

Playing on Xbox it was mostly fine, but randomly characters would disappear I battle, and leave floating weapons. Not sure wtf was going on.
