I'm not really sure what to make of it at this point, but I will say that it definitely makes me way more interested to see the actual console design.
I hated it, and then I thought maybe it was okay, and now I really like it.
That two-tone color scheme will make for some really sweet controllers in the future as they get creative with color combinations.
I hope this doesn't mean that PS4 accessories won't be forward-compatible though. That would be a fucking shame and completely unacceptable in 2020.

Also, it's a bit weird how some parts of the controller look like a "shell" around for example the shoulder buttons:

This. I couldn't quite place it but you've nailed it. This is totally the Madcatz aesthetic.
Doesn't look better to be honest, the white makes it pop out much more.

Same purpose as Options & Share, so no real change there.
Lots of games use it but how many are in a meaningful way, I've played a lot on my PS4 and most just use it as a second menu/map button
I know one amazing way, AA rechargeable batteries that you can replace on the fly!
