Incoming Stargate RTS: Stargate Timekeepers

There's a new Stargate RTS coming out for PC. Not much information has been released so far but we do have a teaser:



Timekeepers will have an new original story set between seasons 7 and 8. Taken from Gateworld:

Timekeepers will give players a chance to engage in combat with the Goa'uld System Lords, rescue allies from danger, and travel through both space and time — exploring different points in the Stargate timeline.

Rather than yet another attempt at an SG-1 sim, Timekeepers follows original characters on missions elsewhere in the Stargate universe, and also across multiple time periods. The story takes the seventh season finale of Stargate SG-1 as its point of departure, following Commander Eva McCain and her team starting with the battle against Anubis over the ice of Antarctica ("Lost City").

Is Stargate still relevant? What are people's thoughts? Personally I'm looking forward to it and I think an RTS game could suit the IP well. I've been re-watching the whole of SG1 currently so I'm definitely in the camp of more Stargate is a good thing.

The last game I remember of Stargate was the one with an amazing trailer that turned out be a mobile game....

I hope they find critical and commercial success with Timekeepers for it may be the herald of other SG related titles. Personally, I would have loved something like a mix of Divinity OS II and Mutant Year 0 and Gears Tactics.

Yep, for a bit there seemed like some small hope that they'd manage to at least set up private servers a couple of years ago, but I don't know that it ever went anywhere.

Seems to me like they were worried that without a fake TV show about the Stargate program to cover up the REAL Stargate program then people would find out the truth, so they are now making a fake video game about the real Stargate program to cover up their secrets.

i know jack shit about the stargate franchise, but a space rts? call it whatever you want and ill play it.

They've obviously chosen the best Stargate series, though I did enjoy Atlantis too, the rest are a bit meh. The time period chosen should enable some interesting elements. Looking forward to potentially commanding SG units in a large scale attack or control individual SG units for more stealthy missions. They have a number of spacecraft such as the X303 which should allow for some potential space missions.

RTS wouldn't have been my first or second guess on what kind of genre a Stargate game might be, but I'm a big fan of the property so they've got my attention. Based on the nothing shown in the teaser, though, seems like it will be a while.

I've actually considered a more XCOM-style tactical game as a decent fit for Stargate what with the generally smaller teams. The stargate could make for interesting "fog of war" implementation in scenarios.

I lost faith with the IP as far as video games goes. And TV shows too actually. Even if I love it. There is potential but you need a big scale project. The time has past for this sadly.

I would have loved Stargate RPG, Fallout style. To me Stargate was about exploration, personal interactions and general shenanigans.

RTS is kind of meh.
