They name dropped Graham? And Graham is still able to vote in this? lol... fuck me.
All of them are complicit, every single one of them has shit in the truck somewhere.

The US is a fucking third world country ruled by an unchecked dictator to me now, the most fucking embarrassing neighbor to have as a Canadian as well.

I know this is the result everybody expected but I can't even imagine what an emboldened Trump will look like. Scary times ahead.

So, if you're the Democrats why do you even show up to the SOTU? Why would they go there and subject themselves to a gloating Trump attacking them and cheering Republicans giving their emperor a standing ovation?

They should all skip that shit and just have a half empty auditorium.

I wish they'd all show up, then after trump starts talking they all get up and walk out.

They certainly didn't do a whole lot to curb the power of would be despots and allowed numerous individuals to hold Consulship or the position of Tribune for several consecutive terms despite that fact being theoretically illegal. And they elevated Sulla to dictator.

The biggest similarity between the two I see is the naive dependence on tradition to fill in the gaps that law doesn't explicitly cover because we've seen "tradition" start to fail us in many of the same ways.

It's really too bad Roman history isn't taught too terribly in depth anymore because the whole thing jumps out as a weird parallel to today's situations.
The founding father's were revolutionaries. In the 1700's. Their thought was that at some point people should revolt if they want to fix things, and that no amount of law writing would completely prevent possible corruption or tyranny. That was, of course when the USA was merely half the east coast with a small population of several million, with no military drones or internet spying or CIA, or Fox News. The founding fathers couldn't have predicted what would happen and had hoped American's could revise the constitution as needed and keep their politicians in check.

Damn the GOP has done a great job convincing people that witnesses in a Senate trial is some unheard of thing. That propaganda machine is humming

It was always going to be a long shot with the shape of the senate. We knew this before the articles of impeachment were released. When we got those weak articles... you may as well have called it a day. Obviously worth duking it out before the nation but nobody paying attention should be shocked and stunned that this isn't a slam dunk

The election must propell a democrat into office. We all knew this was a longshot, and the main point needs to be that the Republicans are tied to a sinking moral carcass, and need to be punished at the voting box.

I don't think that means much. 25% of those want the Bidens as witnesses, not relevant ones. The GOP aren't doing anything that their own voters aren't happy about. In fact, they're more likely not going far enough for a lot of their voters.
It's a good thing their voters alone can't win everything for them then.

If biden wins the election an impeachment inquiry into this ukraine shit will be launched ASAP.

If Warren or Sanders win an impeachment inquiry will be launched because we can't have socialists running the country.

My coworker who keeps defending Trump and the Republicans (supposedly just to play devil's advocate - mmmmmhmmmm) even reached a breaking point. I showed him the tweets from Rubio and Alexander and he just had no idea how to defend these statements.

The acquittal isn't what's demoralizing about this, it's the bald-faced refusal to even have the appearance of a fair trial. The Bolton leak changed everything because there's now a first hand witness who has said they're willing to testify to the Senate who we now know has information pertinent to the case and the majority of US Senators are voting that there's no need to hear what he has to say. There's incredibly pertinent information to the case that is easily obtainable by the Senate and they're deciding to just not hear it because they know it will prove that Trump is guilty.

I knew this wouldn't end with Trump removed from office but the way it has all ended up playing out is disgusting.

Still just arguing about the process.

If you don't have any substance to speak about, just complain about the process. They have literally nothing, and each of these senators know it.

They won't be able to launch shit. If a democrat actually wins and Trump gives up power, then no way the Republicans would gain enough (or any) seats in the House. They'll be in a war amongst themselves and can't do shit about the democratic president's work for at least 2 years. Judges are the only way that could get fucked up, and boy has the GOP done damage on that front in this presidency but hopefully there are at least enough somewhat reasonable judges out there to uphold the law of the land. And if there aren't, fuck it, republicans have shown you can do whatever the fuck you want if you have a majority in the Senate and a President on your side. So time to give them a taste of their own medicine with that shit, critics be damned and just brute force change until people realize how helpful things are.

No cross examination in the House my ass, you had a line of repulican reps basically acting as the President's lawyers there.

The president's counsel blatantly lies about the process in the House, and people too ignorant to know how the House operated will accept what they say.

They are trying to make the case that this is going to take a while to get to the truth so we better not call witnesses or y'all gonna be here a while.
