It seems Playtation gamers are hyping this title through the roof and mentioning it along the big hitters like Horizon, Ratchet, GOW of 2021. Am I the only one that thinks it won't review well? While the game looks incredible in cutscenes, looks a bit average in gameplay, it's animation looks choppy in combat and keep in mind it's a 30fps cross gen game, from an brand new Dev and we haven't seen new gameplay for 7 months.

But reading this on IGN from the dev interview made me lower my expectations quite a bit

"The game will not cost a full $60, and Ember Lab says you will be able to comfortably finish its story over a weekend."

I hope I'm wrong but anyone lowering their expectations with everything considered, or do you think Kena will be one of the great PS5 (and PC) exclusives?

Can't disappoint if you have 0 expectations.

Are people really hyping the game up that much? It actually seemed like it was going under the radar to me, honestly.

There's really no way to say how it'll be received one way or another. People are excited because it looks gorgeous, but that's the extent of it.

1) Where do you see this being hyped as much as the Sony AAA first-party games? I never felt that at all.
2) It doesn't mean that a game is short and/or is not full-priced that it will be a bad game.
3) It's "a lot", not "alot" =)

I'm not seeing how game length and price have anything to do with that. I'm hyped for it's animation and artstyle and gameplay as I assume many others are. Price and game length have never even crossed my mind until I saw this post.

It's the first game of an indie studio, unless the person is expecting a GOTY 12/10 masterpiece(and this would be on them) is a bit hard to be super dissappointing, at worst will be underwhelming and well, it happens, even more so when is their >first game<

The game not costing a lot and not taking a very long time to finish only serves to put it MORE on my radar, personally

It's a launch window game. Expectations seem to be "this looks pretty and I have something new to play on my new console, yay!"

Which seems reasonable.

Shit, I wasn't going to disappointed until you mentioned it, thanks for point that out.

That's about in line with my expectations -- I always expect a very, very pretty, but ultimately somewhat slight, Zelda-lite adventure.

My expectations are about in-line with the original BG&E game...mostly because it reminds me of it a hell of a lot. I think it'll meet those expectations based on what I've seen.

People are definitely going to be disappointed by its lower scope, length and budget. In the end it's a small indie game.

Average gameplay is not a deterrent from high scores. Plenty of 90+ metacritic titles have average gameplay. There are game of the year winners out there with average gameplay.

I don't think anybody is expecting something massive. If anything a < $60 game that you can finish in less than a weekend will sit pretty well with plenty of gamers. There's enough massive titles out there.

There's still the risk that it'll be a pretty but shallow experience with a weak story, but we've no reason to believe that'll be the case right now.

People really thought this was a AAA title? Seemed pretty clear cut that it was smaller in scope in my opinion.

Hmm. I don't think I agree. If nothing else, I haven't noted much hype.

For me? It's looking pretty. And that's enough as I'm incredibly shallow.

hyping this title through the roof

I don't really see people 'hyping it through the roof.'

looks a bit average in gameplay, animation looks choppy in combat and keep in mind it's a 30fps cross gen game

We've seen like 30 seconds of gameplay and the animations don't look choppy at all to me. As for the frame rate, I don't believe Ember Lab hasn't announced what it will run at. I imagine it'll be 30 frames per second on PS4, and 60 on PS5 and PC.

"The game will not cost a full $60, and Ember Lab says you will be able to comfortably finish its story over a weekend."

Yeah, but the people talking about it already know it's not a full-priced release.

Do you think Kena will be one of the great PS5 (and PC) exclusives?

I don't know, we've barely seen it. I like what they've shown so far though.

I finished RE2 and 3 in a weekend and both were great games. Shorter games can be great and make excellent palate cleansers.

I haven't really seen anyone giving it massive hype like an AAA game, just that it looks nice.

Lol what? Nobody I know who is excited for this game is thinking it's going to be some 80 hour epic. Calm your fears OP.

If it does end up being cross-gen, then 60fps on PS5 should be more than doable.

I'm mostly in it for the pretties. And since I rarely finish games these days, having a shorter one will actually be a nice change of pace.

I couldn't really care less about reviews. From what I've seen, it looks like it will have a really great art style and an interesting world, with maybe not great gameplay. So that's about what I expect, I'm not expecting it to be the best game ever or anything but it does seem like it will be interesting.

Looks like you were expecting it to be AAA and recently discovered it's a smaller scope indie, maybe that's why you're feeling this way?

Most people know it's an indie game and have their expectations set accordingly. It's good to be optimistic about a smaller game as well.

Some receipts would be nice. Mentioning the game isn't really the same as hyping it through the roof.

Not sure what hype you're reading, the game looks on par with an indie title. It looks great and I'll give it a shot.

Also, game length and price have nothing to do with quality.

I have not seen a single person equate this with the release of God of War, Horizon, or Ratchet. Not a single one.

It's going to be okay. You don't need to worry about my well-being.

At least on Twitter, yes. People constantly list Kena as a reason why PS5 has a better 2021 than Xbox. I feel like Kena is along the lines of the Gunk on XSX, but a lot of people rank it up there with the likes of Horizon Dawn.

I have thoroughly read the OP and saw a lot of valid points, it was a big persuasion that was able to successfully make me concerned and doubtful of getting the game.....

PSYCHE! Im getting it still, sorry OP
