I have an EVGA G3 650W from 2018 that I'm optimistic will be fine for adding an Ampere card with my current 8700K @ 4.5 GHz all core.

Long term I'd also like to be able to move over to AMD and grab one of the future Ryzen releases as presumably game development will start to use multithreading more often at which point the 6C / 12T of the 8700K could be a concern. That may be an opportunity to size up on PSU but too early to say what the power requirements would be.

Corsair has the SF600 Gold in stock on their website for $124.99 (MSRP)

Newegg has the SF750 Platinum on back order for $184.99

Thank you both. I ended up going with Amazon since I'm sending all my PC Parts to my PO Box and I cannot cross the border right now so I'm in no hurry to do it. Plus, even if I wanted to do it right now I wouldn't be able to since my NR200P case I ordered currently has no shipping date šŸ˜Ŗ

Just picked up the Seasonic FOCUS GM-750 for $110 to replace a 13 year old power supply. Thanks for the heads up.

Still running a 10 year old 850W Corsair PSU. Hoping it holds out a while longer.
my 10 year old hx750 crapped out a few months ago. upgraded to a 2070s and my pc started shutting down when gaming. replaced with a rm750x and paid around $140 in may. its still in stock at newegg (US) right now for that price.

My AX850 fan is starting to go. But I salvaged an AX1200 and ripped the fan out of it. Looks like it would need to be soldered though.

Luckily due to a huge backlog and not jumping to 4K, I'm basically going to ride my i7 4770 + GTX 760 rig until it finally kicks the bucket. Though it's already halfway there. =/ My HX 750 PSU died and replaced it with a cheaper Rosewill Photon (luckily got it before the pandemic) and one of my 760s also died shortly after (glad I bought two due to buying into that SLI bullshit in my younger days).

Thanks for the heads up.
It could probably keep going for another 13 years, but I feel like it's time to finally retire this Corsair HX620. Better to be safe than sorry.

Snacked a Seasonic Focus PX 750W for 109ā‚¬ last month for my new build.

Can't get any better than that quality and warranty wise at this price.

My 10+yr old Corsair HX 520w PSU was getting creaky earlier in the year, and it's fan died. I got another Corsair to replace it. This time the RM750x. Seems like I got it just the right time!

I'm glad I went for a more powerful PSU years ago. So I can reuse it.

I'm holding off until DDR5 has been out for a few years before I upgrade

I dunno if it'll change but FWIW the used market has been pretty good with PSUs for me. In the past couple months I grabbed a gold 750w off r/hardwareswap for $60 and a couple 600w PSUs for $50 apiece from local FB sellers. YMMV though.

Isn't this.... old news? It was true couple months back, but now PSU stock and prices seem to be normalizing.

PSU prices have been high for the entire year and a good chunk of 2019 as well. I built a PC for a friend in Dec. 2019 and even a cheap semi-modular Corsair 650W Bronze PSU with 5 year warranty was $80.

In 2016, $80 bought me a fully modular SeaSonic 660W Platinum PSU with a 7 year warranty.

Thanks. I bought the SF750.

My next SFX build going to be insanely expensive, $350 Mjolnir case, 3080Ti / 3090, 64GB Ram and most powerful CPU that can work with a limited AIO.

At least on this side of the globe, yeah they've been out of stock for a while or really expensive. I have an EVGA 450W BR unit since 2018, and it's pretty good, but I fear it will be too low for a b550 + R5/R7 + 3060 down the road so I want to swap it.

I'm looking at a Ryzen 4000 build this year (if they ever get around to release). If I put 32gb ram and a gtx 1060 6gb in there, any ideas what kind of ps I would be needing?

I was able to nab a Seasonic Focus GX-750 in June for my computer, I think I'm set. Though hopefully psu stabalize next year, may need to replace a one in my 2011 computer.

Wooo thanks for the heads up. Planning to change SFF case in November, and I'll sell the node 202 with the psu it came with.

Prices for the Corsair SF450 platinum had not budged in Canada yet, so I ordered that.

If I'm currently using an EVGA 750 GQ from about two years ago, should that be good enough for a 3080 ti?

Yeah the reason why used PSUs are cheap is because no one wants to buy one and for good reason. A bad power supply can destroy any or all components in a system, it's just too big of a risk imo.

I upgraded my PSU for Ampere like... 8 months ago?

Still... patiently... waiting. But this cheered me up, thanks.

Never skimp on PSU

Ever

Just don't
As someone who's literally had a cheap power supply smoke and catch fire (but luckily not take anything else with it) this is very true.

Never cheaped out on once since and never had another issue with stability or... You know... Fire.

I paid more for my brother-in-law's new 550W modular bronze PSU than I did for my 850W modular platinum PSU just a year or two ago.

EDIT: Just looked. I paid like $85 after rebate, and nowadays my PSU runs $200+.

Damn. Glad I don't need a new PSU. My 650W Antec Earthwatts is almost 10 years old though... Maybe I need a spare.

I have this one and it hasn't blown up yet. IIRC it's identical to one of the Seasonics except branding.
I bought a 550W a while back; seems pretty high quality. I believe it's the equivalent of SeaSonic's Focus Plus Gold line.

Looking at this review, only real potential issue is it gets loud under high load (like 500W+) due to fan profile. Which honestly, most builds you're not going to be hitting that often if at all.

The Phanteks AMP 750W achieves good performance in almost all sections and it is backed up by a hefty ten-year warranty.

Cheapest 80+ Gold PSU out there good enough for an eventual AMD 4000 + RTX 3060? (alternatively, Ryzen 3600 + 2060 SUPER?)

I might buy the PSU right now like most of you guys, if that's the smart thing to do

Do you guys think a 650 watt is still good enough to power what will probably be the 3080 and a 3800x

Well, I'm glad that I don't have to worry about that thanks to the fact that I bought a 750W power supply from thermal take on 2018 when I realized that the one that I had at the time, one with 600W didn't have enough power for me to run FFXV on my PC without crashing my system turning itself off after a few minutes.

This is how my build is probably going to end up btw. Green means I already have the part.
- EVGA Supernova G2 850W
- Ryzen 4800X / 4700X? (depends on how much money I decide to spend)
- RTX 3070
- 32 GB RAM (16x2) 3200 MHz CL16
- Haven't decided motherboard yet
- Samsung 970 EVO 1 TB NVMe SSD
- Toshiba X300 4 TB HDD (7200 RPM)

I'm so excited

I just picked up a SilverStone SX700-PT 80+ Platinum SFX fully modular PSU for $175 on Amazon the other day for my new ITX build. I've been really happy with it so far. The cables are flat cables too which makes it easy to manipulate for nice cable management.
