Depends, if i'm playing a R6, Dota 2 or a any competitive game 1080p/1440p and 120/144fps

If i'm playing a SP title, 1440p/60fps, if i can push even higher, 1440p/120fps.

i have a 1080p ultrawide monitor, so that supersampled to 5120x2160/60hz whenever possible (If not, then 3840x1620 or 3413x1440).

And if a game doesnt support ultrawide, i follow the same pattern but with 16:9 resolutions.

1440p - 165hz- Gsync. I really cant go back.
Since i got the gamespass i installed ori and the blind forest and played it for like 10 minutes. The game is locked to 60FPS and it felt so bad. So i did uninstall it after 10 minutes.

I have a TV (1080p/60) and a monitor (1440p/144 +gsync) hooked up to my computer.

Lately I have been playing on the monitor instead of the TV, but more so out of convenience than anything else (my TV's in an awkward spot).

1440p 120+ hz is the golden ratio of pc gaming at the moment. (also free/gsync)

Hop on board y'all

1080@60. 4k still needs crazy ammounts of gpu power and the capable cards are priced accordingly.
1440 looks like a good middle ground, but I don't intend to buy a new monitor until they get variable refresh rate sorted over hdmi.

Dosn't it though? I played TW3 on a CRT in 4:3 (I think 800x600 or 1024x768) recently and I don't remember fiddling with anything deeper than regular settings menus.
not really, 1024x768 and 800x600 is available but still hardcoded into the game (1024x768 is in the settings but 800x600 only in config file). for 16:9 there arent any under 720p

I'm at 1080p 144Hz freesync and it's glorious, although resolution could be a tad higher. 1440p 144Hz is probably the sweet spot.

I strive for 1440p with fps above 60fps, but I prefer better performance to resolution/graphics. For whatever reason, Monster Hunter World struggles with 1440p 60, and even 1080p/60 at times. So I tweaked some settings in that game to hit 1080p 90 fps

  • 1920x1080@60 hz
  • 1920x1079@50 hz

usually with a coat of lumasharpen and SMAA
Is there a reason for the resolutions with -1 pixel @ 50 hertz?

Some games, mainly old ones, don't allow to select different refresh rates for a selected resolution. Creating different ones only by a pixel (with auto aspect ratio enabled) is the easiest workaround to force a refresh rate.

I can agree with that. I love the useage of the tablet half + surface pen for university and for DMing in DnD, but it's definitely given me some firmware and software trouble due to the convertable nature, that's sometimes required full windows reinstalls. I both love and hate that damn Book haha

Oh wow that sounds even more annoying, I hate reinstalling Windows with a passion :P But I haven't even thought about the utility for pen and paper RPGs, nice! But yeah with all the issues it makes me actually want to see how an Apple-made convertible would go. Running full x86 macOS with the ability to run iOS/iPadOS apps in tablet mode. I switched from iPhones to Android and don't regret it but iPads are super solid experiences and it makes me curious how and if Apple would solve all the problems.

Lol if you think the Surface Book has an unusual resolution, my Surface Pro 5 (and soon to by 7) has a full screen resolution of 2736 × 1824.

The whole lineup uses 3:2 ratio, which is nice for productivity etc.

Well that's as weird of a resolution as most Apple devices have coming to think of it but yeah 3:2 gives a nice, big workspace, I just didn't think about 16:9 and 16:10 not making sense everywhere. And I hope you'll enjoy the new Pro 7! :)

If they made a 16x10 freesync/gysnc 144hz monitor I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I miss my 1680x1050 Samsung monitor. I liked the extra height that I got with it.
yeah 16:10 for gaming is the best. 16:9 was created for movies.

not really, 1024x768 and 800x600 is available but still hardcoded into the game (1024x768 is in the settings but 800x600 only in config file). for 16:9 there arent any under 720p
Street Fighter Iv still supported 640x480 for arcade monitors.

What GPU is recommended for 1440p120+? I'm looking at buying a 1440p monitor of some kind as FF14 for one feels a bit cramped in 1080p and the game doesn't scale the UI very well, but I'm not sure whether it's worth bothering with high refresh rates on a "lowly" 1660 Ti.

I have a RTX 2080 OC for 1440p/165hz.

1080P 144hz, 27-inch FreeSynch monitor. I could have chosen a 4k one as the were at the same price that my panel, but to me, FPS is way more important than that, so I don't think I will be buying any other monitor for the time being, and I will definitely be upgrading my GPU way before that ever happens.

I recommend dropping two pixels on the vertical rather than one.
I ran into issues where the output from some games would be blurred with an odd-numbered resolution selected - even though it should not make a difference.

1080p@60fps with highest graphical setting on most games. My PC is plugged into the TV with bigbox installed to auto run on startup. Games played with xb1 controller.

I play exclusively on my LG B6 OLED. Right now I'm only playing FFXIV (shadowbringers) and run the game at max settings, 4K60. Truthfully, I try to run everything at 4k60 and adjust some graphic settings when needed.

I have a 4k hdr 55 inch TV (60fps) and a 144hz 1080p curved monitor. I love them both dearly and switch between them for games as I feel is necessary. One day I'll upgrade to a 1440p 144 monitor but not for a minute.

I have my PC hooked up to a 4K TV, but I still run most things at 1080P, simply because I run the desktop at 1080P since Windows 10's scaling sucks ass

Currently 1080 at 144hz with as high frames as I can and gsync.

I sometimes downsample.

I want a 1440 monitor with g/free sync soon though.

Well according to Steam 63% of Gamers play in (1920 x 1080), the next nearest is at 12% played in (1366 x 768)

Generally 1440p/144hz.

However for some controller games that are capped at 60fps I do sometimes play them on my TV at 4k60fps.

I have a 4k WCG monitor mainly for editing, and a 1440p144hz monitor for gaming. Game on the 4k only if it's like a slower paced pretty game, cuz it's a 32 inch monitor with amazing color. Otherwise I stick with the better motion.

Mainly at 1440p@144hz, but I do have LG 4k@60hz tv that I use with games that work well with controller like Blasphemous recently.

My next monitor will probably be Ultrawide though, but I have no hurry to upgrade my monitor yet.

I think the poll is flawed. I game on a 4K60 display but obviously even with a high-end card not every game can be 4K60, so basically I go as high as I can while maintaining 60fps. In some games that's 4K, in others it's 1440p, and in a few others 1080p. So there's no set resolution I can pick. But I do always target 60fps with PC games.

Same for me. I play on my TV so I do 4K60 when I can, but will bump it down to 1440 if I need to.

4K, but always trying to achive 60 fps, no AA, not using ultra on everything etc.
When the game gives the option of internal resolution I change it too. Like AC Odyssey for exemplo

4K60 for me as I have my PC with a 2080 Ti hooked up to a LG OLED. I also have a Razer Blade 15 with an OLED that I try I usually play at 4K60 (have to really mess with graphics options to pull that off) or 1440p60.

If the game supports RTX, I'll target 1080p. Otherwise, I'll choose between 2880x1620 and 4k. Whichever resolution gets me closest to a consistent 60 FPS. I game on an HDTV so I don't really care about getting anything greater than 60 FPS.
