I'm currently torn between Ultrawide (3440x1440 100Hz) and 2540x1440 144Hz. 21:9 looks great with most games nowadays and even older games you wouldn't expect support it natively (e.g. Dead Space 1). It's a VA Panel though and motion presentation it's pretty bad in worst cases and OK most of the time. The other one, being a TN Panel feels so smooth even at equal FPS; top tier response time (and great viewing angles for TN Panel). Can't decide whether I should wait for 21:9 becomes less expensive and with faster panels or just deal with the motion blur and some Freesync flickering on rare occasions.

Before I bought those two monitors for testing, 1080p60.

1080p is the resolution of my TV so that. Although I sometimes play games at 900p because a stable 60 fps framerate is of paramount importance for me.

Used to play at fullhd with my old 1070.
Right now 1440p or 4k on pc (or 4Kinda on ps4 pro).

1080p on a big 4k screen is kinda horrible (worst recent offender borderlands 3, from 1080p to 1440p the difference is gigantic, never seen anything like that)

I can't go back to 16:9 after playing a lot of games on my ultrawide. Right now I enjoy playing at 3840x1080 on my Samsung CHG90.

I dont even know, or care for that matter :p

I usually go for the optimal settings button or whatever they are called, and if that turns out to be nice. I'll stick with that. If it's not running well I just tinker with the settings until it runs as good as it can.

Depends, sometime I use my 1440p 120hz Gsync monitor, sometimes I use a 1080p plasma. I usually downsample if my GPU can manage it and always try to target 60fps locked, or 100+ fps if it's a fast paced game and I'm playing on the monitor.

No option for 720P? :(

Kinda curious how many people who still play in the same resolution, though I figure not that much.

Between 1080p and 1440p on a 4k TV. Looking to upgrade to 1440p / 120 hz or even 144 *hopefully* next year. Fingers crossed the next releases can actually push those frames.

I play at 1080p and at least 60fps on pc for the most part. My laptop is pretty beefy, but I didn't buy it to play the latest games per se, more to be able to get the most out of games from earlier that I hadn't gotten around to and whatnot. I still buy new games from time to time though. I have no 4k monitors or 4k TV, not really interested at this point. Maybe when this comp breaks and I get a new one. Might be time to get a 4k tv when/if I get a ps5 too. We'll see.

1440p/144hz when possible, obviously though some games are more demanding but I do try and stick to at least 1440/60 which is usually completely possible

I play at 1080p and whatever framerate I can get. I have a PC from 4 years ago, it was midrange then (Core i5 4460, 8G RAM, GTX 970) haven't upgraded it ever since I bought the consoles (PS4, Switch) in 2017, and 2018.

1440p 60fps is a target I'm happy with. I don't have a 4K monitor yet (I'm waiting for HDR capable ones to come down in price), and I don't play anything at a serious enough level to warrant pushing for higher frame rates.

1080p120.

I recently upgraded computer and had intended to keep using my BenQ XL2410T. What I didn't anticipate was that graphics cards these days don't have DVI outputs...so it was either buy a £100 DVI-D to Display Port adapter or a new monitor. Decided to get the adapter and thankfully it works pretty much flawlessly.

I aim for as much frames as possible on 1080p but my CPU is almost 8 years old so it's more like ~120 fps on older/lighter games and 60 on graphically intensive ones.

1080 or lower (1600x900 at the lowest) . I rather play with cranked up settings and higher framerate than with a high resolution. My desktop is from 2014, so its soon time to upgrade for next gen experience

Is there a reason for the resolutions with -1 pixel @ 50 hertz?

Yeah, it's so the detachable 'clipboard' of the tablet part both matches the rest of the surface line, and matches the ratio of a piece of paper. Next laptop, I don't need the convertability in one device, so, I think I'll go for a more standard laptop + a Surface Pro

Alright yeah that makes sense, sounds like a plan. Honestly I'm quite fascinated by convertible devices from a practicality standpoint but it seems there are still too many drawbacks with them to have them really as one "on-the-go" device.

That's why I'm kinda "scared" to try ultrawide. Right now on 1080p/144 VRR I already know I won't be able to go back to 60hz with no VRR, if the same happens once I try ultrawide I have to look for a ultrawide, high refresh-rate VRR monitor and with all the features added in this thing will likely cost more than half of my PC along with needing a monster GPU to drive the resolution fast.

My monitor (LG 27GL850) is 1440p 144Hz with G-Sync Compatible. I have a 4K TV but I don't use that for PC gaming anymore since I got this monitor. My RTX 2070 Super doesn't always reach 144FPS, especially in newer titles but with G-Sync it's a great experience.

That's why I opted for VRR instead of high resolution. With high resolution you have to play on it to have a good time visually, with VRR and high refresh-rate you can hit anything in the threshold and have a super good time even with a non high-end GPU.

1080p75

It wasn't long ago I was locking demanding games to 30fps and even dropping down to 900p but I have a better system now.

1080P, 144Hz and FreeSync.

I have no intention of upgrading for at least another year or two, and when I do it'll be to a 4K, 144Hz screen with FreeSync. 1080p/144 is perfectly fine for now and I have no problem skipping 1440P.

2560x1440p is my monitor res, and thats my usual baseline for games where I can't push 4K supersampling. If I can't hit at least 60fps at 4K I then prioritise native res and up to 144fps if possible. Due to gsync I'm not worried about screen tearing or fluctuating frame rate. All about quality first but do prefer higher frame rates where pos. (having cake and eating it!)

Both my tv and laptop monitor is 1080p so that's my reality. I don't care about resolution at this point, framerate is more interesting. I've barely ever seen a game, let alone a movie, in anything above 1080p, though my phone does look pretty good I guess.

I have got a 4K monitor so it depends on the game, if I can get a stable 60fps on 4K I will stick with that settings, if not, I will lower the resolution and the other settings.

Ultrawide 3440x1440 is my jam right now, but if I did not run Ultrawide I would be staying at 1440p. I prefer to keep framerates higher than push to 4k res.

I can agree with that. I love the useage of the tablet half + surface pen for university and for DMing in DnD, but it's definitely given me some firmware and software trouble due to the convertable nature, that's sometimes required full windows reinstalls. I both love and hate that damn Book haha

The old GTX 1070 can muster 4K60 in last gen games like Sleeping Dogs but struggles with newer stuff. I generally try to run at 4K and either use resolution scaling or tone down the settings to get back to 60fps. I really cannot be doing with 1080p now and 1440p even is a bit "meh".

Well that sounds annoying alright :/ I wonder why Microsoft opted for such a odd resolution, I guess the tablet part is the reason?

Lol if you think the Surface Book has an unusual resolution, my Surface Pro 5 (and soon to by 7) has a full screen resolution of 2736 × 1824.

The whole lineup uses 3:2 ratio, which is nice for productivity etc.

Can't do 2 votes, but I use both 4k 60 Hz on a 43 inch HDTV and 3440x1440 144 Hz 34 inch ultrawide monitor. If a game doesn't natively support ultrawide or I can't easily mod it with proper FOV to support ultrawide, I play on my TV.
