1440p 144hz W/ Gsync.

If I can't get acceptable framerates at 1440p I'll either play windowed or, if the game supports it, drop it to 1024x768 and put it on the CRT at 120hz.

Hell yeah

4K OLED and a 2080Ti. I'm trying to to push 4K 60fps all day. I'll reduce sliders here and there to get my preferred resolution and frame rate.

1440p depending on the game I could get 60fps up to 300 fps. But more realisticlly most of my games are 1440p at 90fps
All of this with G-Sync

Hard to answer the question in some ways. Got a dual monitor setup with 1 1440p 165hz and the other is 1080p 240hz. Answered 1080p240hz though because I find the 240hz to a better experience than 1440p. But when I'm playing a game where I can't even sniff I'll play on the 1440p monitor.

1440p 144hz. I have a 4k monitor but I need to be able to play at that res without sacrificing quality before I switch to it. Right now it's just a second monitor.

Surface Book 2. It's a strange resolution, and the 1050 in the machine isn't great at running modern games at that res, so there's a lot of trying to find a good downscaled resolution that comes as close to fitting the aspect ratio as it can -_-

Well that sounds annoying alright :/ I wonder why Microsoft opted for such a odd resolution, I guess the tablet part is the reason?

If there's one gaming sin I absolutely want to commit, it's getting an old 1280x1024 CRT and gaming on it. I've heard modern games on CRTs look amazing.

Got a gtx 1070 with a 1080p 60htz tv. Need a new monitor. Should I stick with a 1080 monitor?I feel the Gtx1070 just isn't enough for a 1440p. And that gpu isn't getting an upgrade any time soon.

1080p144 with Gsync. Still using an Asus VG245 with a Gsync upgrade board. I just upgraded to a 2070 Super.

GPU power is still not where I want it to be for 1440p with high refresh rates, and the monitors feel both overpriced and outdated at this point. I'm waiting for GPUs to get faster and for monitor tech to stabilize before I make the jump to 1440p or 4K.

I thought the 2070K would push me to 1440p but there are still too many games that don't run as fast as I'd want them to at that resolution.

Yeah, it's so the detachable 'clipboard' of the tablet part both matches the rest of the surface line, and matches the ratio of a piece of paper. Next laptop, I don't need the convertability in one device, so, I think I'll go for a more standard laptop + a Surface Pro

1440p/60fps in singleplayer games, generally. If i can go higher than 60fps while retaining good graphics then i of course go higher. In multiplayer i generally aim for my monitor refresh-rate that is 165hz, then locking it at 163 for the gsync. In games like csgo where i seem to struggle with a stable game when using frame limiter i just let the frames run wild since you don't really notice screen tearing at that point anyways. I also drop graphics and resolution in multiplayer to hold the framerate as well as possible. Had a standard 140-150fps in the modern warfare beta for example, running things on low and 75 percent of the resolution scale from 1440p with a 1070. Much prefer bad IQ and good frames compared to the reverse.

1440p 144hz, or 60hz, with Gsync depending on the type of game and graphical fidelity. I wish I can use my 38" 3840 x 1600 ultrawide, but it doesn't have Gsync. :'( (It's pretty glorious though.)

I usually try to fix it to my screen's size, but I do not really care much. Currently playing through some older games in windowed mode at 800x600 and loving it.

For the majority of the games I play anymore, 1080p/60, but it's the nature of the game itself rather than anything hardware related. For multiplats that I am able to easily play with a controller, I'll play on my 4K TV and either set the game to 1440p, or start out at 4K and then lower the in game scaling if the option exists until I hit 60fps without any drops below that aside from random 30fps cutscenes.

Once I buy another TV in 2-3 years I'll just be playing at 4K/VRR.

I would have moved on from 60fps by this point if the consoles were not stuck at 30fps in perpetuity, since I don't exclusively game on PC just yet. The transition from 60fps to 30fps is bad enough. There's no way I would be able to tolerate going from 120fps (or higher) back down to 30fps.

As high as I can while keeping my target framerate. Which can mean both higher than 4K in older games or Control at 720p to keep 60.

Hopefully on a Sony FW900 at that resolution.

Anything below 4K at this point is some ice age shit.

Onward towards 6K/8K!

Could you loan me your cyber eyes from the future?

Since my choice isn't up there I'll just comment.

Typically I go with 1620p 60hz, but if I can hit 4k without turning down every setting I'll go with that. If I can't get stable performance at 1620, I go 1440.

I'd like to do 1440p 120hz, but I need a monitor that supports it first. Might go with one that does 4k 144hz for future proofing but they are so dang expensive

1080p60 24" desktop monitor. 30fps for casual games (windowed) and 60 fps for full screen action, good for a few more years.

Problem with this setup is the unused high-res texture packs in newer games taking up HDD space.

I've had a 1440/144 G-sync monitor for about 3-4 years now. I need to upgrade my video card but it's enough to run most games that I play on PC at 80+ fps. I get most AAA games and multiplats on console.

Seem so many play on ultra wide here, what the appear/charm of it?

I wanna try to, but I don't think market has many games that support ultra wide, no?

Most games on the market support ultrawide. Usually the ones that don't either have a good reason for it (2D / Fighting game where it could offer an unfair advantage), are simply from a time when utlrawide wasn't common, or can be modded to support it.

And the appeal of it is in it's larger screen estate. You can see more to the left and the right sides of the screen. For many games, this gives them greater immersion then you'd get with a standard 16:9 display. For other games, this can mean more UI space (extremely useful in an MMO or UI heavy game) and thus more customization options.

Some screenshots to give you an idea. First is Grim Dawn. Second is Destiny 2.

20191012152750_1jgjx2.jpg

You can actually test ultrawide yourself and see if you like it on a 16:9 display. Set a custom resolution of 1920x800 or 2560x1080 or whatever, and you'll get the black bars on the top/bottom for ultrawide.

For someone who wants to cheat and doesn''t want a 150 pound TV on a desk, what's a good way to slap some CRT filters over some games?
I have no idea how to do this for modern games. Probably reshade? Idk.

My monitor isn't too heavy either, maybe like 60lbs? It's pretty nice. Dell Ultrascan P991.

Edit: Elaborating on this, the benefits of a CRT aren't simply about how it looks from a display perspective. Motion works fundamentally differently on CRTs, so no emulation would be able to do that on an LCD panel. You really gotta do the real thing for comparison. Same with contrast ratios.

1080p or less.

It gives me the best stability, while having no qualms with frame rates, lag input, and hardware driver issues.

RTX 2070 user here.

The plan is to get an ultrawide 4K HDR but i'm still skeptical about the support that it receives, not so optimal in some case. (Especially on a lot of retrogames, something that I like to play abitually). There is also another reason, I'll never go back to 60FPS so I'm waiting for a card able to sustain 100+FPS at 4K pretty easily, just like the 1080Ti that I'm rocking right now.
Also I want to get into VR by the end of the year, that's why I'm still stalling on this .

3440 x 1440 120hz ultrawide (the popular Alienware Gsync one)

I had a 32x9 super ultrawide w/HDR for a while last year but the fidelity of the 3840 x 1080 res wasn't enough for me as IQ suffered too much. Wish I would have waited for the 1440P version of that but I didn't.

1440p/144Hz, although I mostly get 60 - 100 fps in most AAA games because I "only" have a RTX 2060, which is a fantastic card, but of course doesn't cut it for 144fps locked.

Depends on the game but most of the time I play at 1440p/165Hz unless I'm emulating stuff.

If you want high frame over 100 consistently, 1080p is the way to go. 1440p is more like a 90fps at best experience for most titles even with a 2080 unless you want to play with lower settings. I prefer high frame rate and higher presets, it looks really nice. Also good 24" 1080p monitors are very affordable. Right now with less than $200 you can buy something like this https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-24g2u-24g2/ it's very impressive.

For 1440p, you have to pay like 3 times as much which would have been fine if they didn't have so many issues. Market is filled with VA screens that are just not fast enough for 144Hz and the couple of IPS options have poor QC and just horrible glow. They are ok screens, just not worth $500-600. That's a lot of money for what you get. You can a buy a 55" TV with real HDR and 120Hz on black friday with that kind of money and connect it to your PC if you want a big screen. Monitors really don't go on sale much if ever. The monitor market is stupid.

1440p is just not very ideal overall imo. It's not high res enough to make you go wow like 4K is. The panels are mediocre. Video content scale poorly to it because it's not a standard resolution anyone makes content in. The monitor options aren't very good for the price.

I think switching between 1080p144Hz and 4K60 makes more sense you get the best of everything. You can actually get high frame and you can see high detail depending on the title you want. Fluctuating async 90ish performance is not as great feeling as 120-144Hz. You can even run titles like ACO at over 100fps at 1080p, at 1440p is just impossible.

1080p 60 with ultrawide(2560 X 1080 monitor). My 1070 handles this well and it's a good compromise between res and performance.
