Witcher 2 + Witcher 3 + Hearts of Stone + Blood & Wine is tough to beat.

Witcher 3 > Mass Effect 2
Witcher 2 > Mass Effect 3
Expansions + Witcher 1 > Mass Effect 1

Mass Effect 1: Good story, world building, characters, garbage gameplay.
Mass Effect 2: Perfect game
Mass Effect 3: Perfect game

Witcher 1: Garbage
Witcher 2: Slightly less garbage but not good
Witcher 3: Perfect game

ME wins overall.

Lol if you think ME1 has garbage gameplay then how can you say TW3 is a perfect game when its combat is so godawful.

I really enjoyed everything about the witcher 3 except for whenever I had to fight something.

ME without question. I like the setting, characters and gameplay vastly more.

It's a much stronger, cohesive and consistent trilogy as well.

I haven't been able to play a Witcher game longer than hour before I uninstall it because I hate playing as Geralt so the choice is easy. Geralt is just boring to me unless he's shirtless Henry Cavill.

Not surprised at the poll leaning heavily to Mass Effect - its a strong trilogy where each game ties into each other well with fantastic characters and (mostly) good gameplay. However, I think I prefer the Witcher 3 alone more than any game in the Mass Effect series honestly.

I usually like science fiction more than fantasy based settings too, but the Witcher 3 was the game that made me really get into that setting. I think the optional quests of Witcher are better, and the stories in the paid DLC are fantastic pieces in their own right. I also like the lore in Witcher (which I suppose ties into its setting). As a whole, I just found the Witcher's universe more complex than Mass Effect.

Yeah it's not surprising. The Mass Effect trilogy is on a lot more systems, whereas if someone wants to play The Witcher trilogy they need to have a PC and an Xbox. I doubt most people have played all The Witcher games compared to the Mass Effect trilogy because of this.

I'd go with The Witcher games easily as the only game I enjoyed in the Mass Effect series was the first one, I thought ME2 was way too focused on being a bad third person shooter and it had to much combat. I dropped ME3 after a couple of hours. I find the Witcher games to be a lot more interesting as I find the stories being told to be way better and the decisions the player makes within them to be more morally grey or just less willing to beat the player over the head with "this is the bad choice" compared to Mass Effects Paragon and Renegade system that just feels so out of place within it's setting. In fact, I think it's one of the reasons I love the Witcher games so much as they are absolutely willing to tell the player the choices they've made have led to terrible consequences for these people or characters that fit within the context of the players choice and feels like an organic outcome that could have occurred.

The Witcher has 3 great games. Mass Effect barely has 1.

/edit: actually Witcher 1 and 3 were great, 2 was good.

There's only one good game in The Witcher trilogy, but it's better than all three of the Mass Effect games, so I'll still take it.

Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games ever so this is an easy answer for me. I wasn't a big fan of 2 and kind of stalled out on Skellige on 3, though I've liked the game overall.

I don't like any of Bioware's offerings unfortunately, so the Witcher is an automatic choice.

The Witcher for sure, as much as i love Mass Effect 1, the rest of the trilogy is garbage cover shooter game design that plagued that generation.

I'll take the Witcher, 3 alone is a superior experience and much more replayable than the ME trilogy.

I really did enjoy ME at the time though.

One got better with each game the other got worse.

I'd take the one with Guanter O dimm.

This being a super console-centric forum, most of whom started with Witcher 3 or maybe 2, and with ME being Bioware going ultra console-friendly WRPG, it's not a surprise really.

Mass Effect because I felt bonded with the characters on the Normandy.

I think the Witcher 3 Trilogy, Wild Hunt, Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine.. are almost as good.

Don't give a shit about the others.

The Mass Effect trilogy features three good games and good expansions. The Witcher trilogy features one good game and two good expansions.

Easy choice.

The Witcher 3 and its expansions as a trilogy alone runs laps around the Mass Effect games. The fact that you get two other great (if mildly janky and flawed) games to go with it is just icing on the cake.

Unfortunately, both ME and the first two Witcher games are pretty juvenile in tone/writing and have aged quite terribly.

Mass Effect is a trilogy, Witcher isn't.

The first one is a rehash and a mixed bag of all the books, the third a direct continuation of said books.

The second is a gem with amazing set pieces, characters and storyline. Game of Thrones with Witcher characters.

But you ask me for a trilogy, Mass Effect is and always will be the one and only !

That's not even a question.

BioWare may have its issues but at least they're not transphobic.
They've had some issues with characterisation of trans people in the past so I wouldn't let them off completely, just as they can and should improve with racism and sexism too, but generally in their games they are trying and improving, and they haven't tried to court gamer gaters in their marketing either. There's really not a single game dev out there that doesn't have stuff with women, poc and LGBT they need to improve on but you can tell which ones seems to legitimately want to improve, and CDPR had the chance to but really really blew it completely.

This is an interesting one for me. Objectively I feel TW3 has the better story telling and world while ME2 has the best characters maybe in any RPG.

The gameplay in the first two witcher games is just downright bad. There's not much redeemable about it outside of it's systems which are rich and offer a lot of freedom. ME doesn't really have that, but ME2/3 play really really well. When we get around to TW3 it becomes "fine" but it's still not good. While the weakest for gameplay, ME1 still plays at least as good as TW3.

Looking back at my experiences with the first two witcher games, I feel they were a bit overrated. I remember a lot of really poor writing (likely translations) and awkward experiences with fences.

All and all they are trying to accomplish different things. The witcher has always been about Geralt and the world he's in while ME is about your abstract agency over the space in which it takes place, but more importantly the characters you meet and interact with. I think this really rings true with how memorable and stand out the bloody barren quest line is from TW3. Mass Effect has lots of that.

So overall if it's just one game, TW3. Series, ME. I do think ME2 is a better game than TW3 but it offers less.

I think I like every Witcher game more than it's counterpart from the Mass Effect trilogy but I think I paradoxically like the Mass Effect trilogy as a whole more.

The Witcher by a very large margin - every game was good and every new game in the series was better than the previous installment. Every single thing that was initially good and exciting about Mass Effect is utterly destroyed by an inept writing team through game 2 and 3 - By the end it is so hilariously bad that I have no further desire to interact with anything in this franchise ever again, possibly anything ever created by the husk of a company currently using the Bioware name.

You're right. My point was that they're not as bad as CDPR but I shouldn't have implied they have no issues in that regard.

Mass Effect is on an entirely different level.

The Witcher trilogy has one playable game, and it needs mods to get there.

I love Witcher too but yeah, Mass Effect easily.

Scifi will always have my sword and shield over sword and sorcery.

Mass Effect is up there with Metal Gear Solid as GOAT trilogies. The Witcher doesn't even come close.

Mass Effect games also lead into each other. While people wanted more, your transferred save file did have an impact.

Surprised by the results. I thought Witcher 2 and 3 blew the entire ME trilogy out of the water.

The worst Witcher games is better than the best Mass Effect game. Witcher 1 was awesome. Disgraceful poll results.
