I often find Tim Sweeney communication strategy to be quite aggressive and lacking manners. But some may argue it is a marketting strategy designed to beat competitors, a bit like when console makers had campaigns like "sega does what nintendo doesn't".

Is it an effective strategy though? Is antagonizing people an effective move to conquer markets? I am not a specialist, but a lot of successful people create great companies without needing to attack or taunt competitors and their users.I don't see Apple and Samsung taunting each other to sell mobile phones.

in my mind, A CEO is supposed to be someone extremely mature who plans every move he makes, so does Tim's strategy make sense, is his behavior a part of his plan?

Tims strategy doesnt seems to work out so far so i guess not.

PC market doesn´t like when someone wants to create a walled garden.

Uhh, I follow Sweeney on Twitter and he's never tweeted anything angry or aggressive as long as I've followed him.

When has he been aggressive and "lacking manners"?

Act like a demon, and get everyone used to it.

Then when you simply act like a dick, people are moderately surprised.

At some point, he cleans up his act an people will commend him for it.

What? Samsung have been taunting Apple for years. Have you missed the genius adverts? How they were mocking bend gate or removal of headphone jack. Apple tend to ignore even though Samsung have had quite a few dubious episodes with phones blowing up and what happened with the Fold. But Samsung definitely taunt.

So are we talking about Epic's strategy with the EGS, or personal statements/comments attributed to Sweeney? If we're talking about the latter, can you give some examples?

Personally there are 3 things that a digital store could do to take the fight with steam from a costumer side:
  • Selling old games (with the devs receiving a part of the sale)
  • Allowing to loan games
  • Simplifying even further the troubleshooting of the problems (for example having a button that installs latest GPU drivers + libraries needed by the games currently installed + verify integrity game cache)
Alongside the above i think feature matching steam is not that hard steam makes millions of dollars, i expect any serious contender to invest a considerable ammount to at the very least get the basic features down.

Since I'm not a dev i can't speak for them. so you would have to ask why they would find steam lacking.

The way EGS and most other stores (looking at origin and uplay) will at the very most get a couple of impulse buys at 1-5€ range. Ihave less then a dozen games in non steam/gog clients. In steam i ahve around 2500 games and in GOG i have around 300 games.

Yes. Just create the most popular game in the world. Create your own store that everyone has to register for to play your game. Offer developers a better cut than what they get on any other storefront to launch on your store. Offer some developers financial resources to launch with some amount of exclusivity on your platform. Simple stuff. Anyone could do it really.

Huh? Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, etc all have had advertising campaigns that directly attack their competitors.

I guess you could say what EPIC is doing now with exclusives is kind of similar to what Nintendo did back in the day where they threatened to not let stores carry Nintendo stuff if they also carried competitor products. Sega got creative though. If a digital storefront like Steam cared they'd do the same.

Honestly, I don't know how Epic would turn customers to their store if they did not have exclusives. People don't want to leave Steam because they like their games on one place.

People were pretty pissed at Valve with Steam in the beginning too. Now they have fanboys defending their monopoly in a cultlike manner.

Yep it works and he has not done anything wrong so?

And the number one reason why it exists. I agree it exists because it needs to

If you have Tim Sweeney's money, I guess behaving like Tim Sweeney wouldn't hurt your store that much.

Depends on your war chest. If you have a limited budget then you should have a better plan (or any kind of plan) than Sweeney is currently following.
If your budget is infinite: just leave money on your trail and people will start to follow you. If you encounter any problems on your way: throw additional money at it.
