My heart sunk when he showed up. He seemed a bit more tolerable in TLL.
It's really the worst voice acting for a main character in a AAA game this gen.
pretty much every character in GTA makes me not want to play GTA, but I think its sense of humor just does nothing for me
Tora and even-more-so Tatsu make me wonder how on earth Riki in the first Xenoblade Chronicles was such a great character
It's kinda funny how Stuffwell from Partners in Time was probably booted for being disliked/annoying, but at least he had a cute design and was a kinda meta reference to how RPG characters have massive inventories despite not carrying any bags
He wasn't amazing but Starlow is just a boring orb
I hate Huey from Color Splash more than either of them though, but that's more because I find the writing in that game kinda obnoxious

she single-handedly takes wonderful games full of charm and character, and slows them down to a point of tedium where the enjoyment of the quality in the games she wrecks cannot be salvaged anymore
I forgot her name and had to look it up, that's how much I erased her from my memory. her name is starlow/chippy and she is the single most annoying sidekick character I've ever had the misfortune to encounter - IN MULTIPLE GAMES. so imagine if nintendo took the Navi criticism from ocarina of time, and instead of quietly fixing it like they did with majora's tatl, they tripled down. the mario and luigi rpg games are often accused of bad pacing and endless tutorialisation - like in dream team - and she's the cause, the culprit, the messenger, the grim reaper. she is Fi if fi didn't just ruin one game but multiple, if fi was an unending plague on her franchise. I abhor STARLOW. I detest STARLOW. she should have been left behind in Bowser's large intestine. DEATH TO STARLOW.

This asshole right here. Copen from the Azure Striker Gunvolt series is the very definition of this for me. I completed his story in Gunvolt 2 exactly once because the game (as well as its prequel) goes SO far out of its way to drive home the point that the dude is a legit scumbag, to the extent that I hesitate to even call him an "anti-hero" or "deuteragonist." He's pretty much just a villain you get to play as, and a totally contemptible one at that.
Copen being such a fucking dickhead is also why, as much as I like the Gunvolt series, I'm finding it tough to get *that* excited for Luminous Avenger iX. I really dislike the idea of playing an entire game as Copen; regardless of whatever happens in LAiX's story, I don't know if there's anything he could do at this point that would redeem him in my eyes.
God, I hate this character so much. But, I mean, I'll still play the game because I love Inti. <3

Trevor made me stop playing GTA5 altogether. To those saying, "yeah but everyone does all that shit anyway playing it!" It isn't that simple. Being forced to play as an absolute piece of shit without agency is not the same as dicking around in GTA with a bunch of AI that you never interact with story wise.
Back in my arcade days, Eddy Gordo showing up in Tekken 3 for the scrubs helped push me over to Soul Calibur.

Usually just games with spiders or spider like enemies in it. I tried to replay Half Life 2 several times but each time I got to Ravenholm the black poisonous head crabs that let out a terrifying shriek before pouncing or the zombie with several of those black head crabs on its back that it throws at you just made me turn the game off each time. The first time I just endured through it but I couldn't do it again.
Metal Gear Solid 2 for sure. I don't know if it would automatically make me enjoy the game given all the other issues I had with it, but seeing Raiden erased from it completely and having full control given back to Snake would be about the only way you could convince me to try another playthrough.

Man...Polish sounds WAY better imo. The English VA for Geralt even turned me away from Soul Calibur VI recently

I didn't care for the game much to begin with so per the spirit of this thread my comment doesn't apply but I'll chime in and comment that I felt the same way just from watching my friend play through the game at my apartment. Trevor is the fucking worst.

Definitely. I thought Dream Team was already quite a troubled game but Starlow absolutely pulverized it into the ground. Starlow ensures that you're as disconnected as possible from the game, she prevents you from playing at any pacing you desire and treats you like you are unable to do anything on your own, without even giving you a chance. The fact that these tutorials never at all let up, even at the final dungeon, was enough to make me quit there and finally give up. Dream Team was a game I was excited for, but I'd now say it's some of the least fun I've had playing a game, almost as if it's ashamed of being an RPG.

For some reason on ERA only there is a huge hate of the character despite him being one of the most popular among almost every other group of Persona 5 fans. As to why actually I don't really know, I think the character and his arc were good.
I heard a lot of people complaining about Tatsu, and while I agree that he doesn't really add anything to the game, I thought it was pretty easy to just ignore him whenever he actually appeared in anyway. The shtick he has with Lin wears thin pretty fast though.

Great thread idea as I'm personally very susceptible to shitty characters affecting my games. My most recent one was Sarah from Days Gone, I hated everytime she was onscreen
She really got on my nerves and actually made me dislike Deacon because he loved her so much lol.
My most hated one of all time is definitely Professor Pester from the Viva Pinata games. I loved these games so much because of their asthetic and I really enjoy relaxing with building games as I like taking my time and getting everything perfect which is why including this character is one of the most baffling game design decisions I've ever seen....not only does he completely ruin your garden but he appears way too frequently and for absolutely no reason other than "it's time to make the gamer miserable" mechanic. He will kill valuable pinatas, ruin parts of your garden that you spent ages meticulously detailing and costs a fucking shit load to manage. I literally had to design a bait area in all my gardens and put valuable pinata there just so I could try and lure him away from the rest of my build (it doesn't work all the time). If only the games let you just relax and experience the content leisurely, they would've been perfect if not for this gronk.

I love almost everything about Lost Odyssey but god, I hate those two insufferable kids. They are annoying as hell and don't fit in the tone.
Honourable mention: That boss in Digital Devil Saga 2. It took me so many, many tries until I killed this bastard. The last boss was a joke compared to this thing.

I somehow for some shameful reason forgot about Akechi. Fuck that guy.
I never felt she didn't care. The game itself spells out for you that she can't show affection because of the fascist camp leader that doesn't allow "sins or love". Not only that but she herself like Deacon won't through a lot which made her into a more hardened and broken person that feels she is responsible for the virus that happened. If you put yourself in her shoes you will feel awful that an experiment you made turned the world to shit and killed everyone you knew (including your husband) then of course you will start becoming a cold person that very possibly will try to "atone for their sins".

JRPG sidekicks with high pitch voices that seem to come from a childrens program. I instantly turn on english voice actors as soon as they are introduced or just stop playing all together.
