Same here. You don't have to pay attention so closely and I find characters just click with me more in English.
For the record, preferring subs are fine just don't be a pompous ass about it.
The death note dub is stellar, probably one of the few dubs I prefer over subs. FMA and Bleach were decent too.
Don't be shamed by anyone for watching dubs. Many are legit great and entertaining in their own right. It's not the 90's anymore.
Had a really good time watching the Haikyuu dub recently. The original was great, but they clearly had a lot of fun voicing it in english and it shows.
Also for films, Mirai (Mamoru Hosoda) and Walk on Girl the Night is Long (Masaaki Yuassa) are both fantastic films that I recommend dubbed over subbed whole-heartedly. They cover the acting perfectly or improve on it in some cases. For example in Mirai, the child is voiced by a woman straining to do a toddler's voice in the original. The dub actually got a kid to do it, and makes the film 1000% better. For Walk on Girl, some sections are nearly incomprehensible subbed from a combo of the visuals and speed of speech. It has to be watched dubbed.

It depends on the dub really. As much as I've enjoyed Jujutsu Kaisen for example, I find a lot of the voice actors lacking in the English dub especially notable characters like Sukuna. The German Sukuna fucking nails it though, very similar to the original Japanese. Hunter x Hunter for a longer anime was great in English though. There are like a handful of secondary characters who aren't great but all the main characters are pretty damn good.
The original Akira dub is one of the few examples where the English actors do a better job than their Japanese counterparts. The personality injected into the lines really sold the delivery of a bunch of street punks getting wrapped up in something huge. The Japanese language track by comparison is tempered but bloodless, feeling rather by-the-numbers for something so epic.
The Ranma 1/2 OAVs are also great in English albeit not better than the Japanese track.

In my case, I sometimes watch Latin American dubs. Dragon Ball is a must for me; can't watch them (except Super when it was airing) in Japanese or... the Funimation dub.
Recently watched Jujutsu Kaisen in Latin American Spanish. It was quite good, actually; only real issue was Itadori. But the other actors did an excellent job, especially Megumi and Gojo.

I still do a pretty even split. I'm watching Gundam SEED dubbed with my daughter, but the latest furuba and anything else this season that catches my eye subbed.
Both are fine, it's not the 90's anymore (and i would argue, even a lot of 90's dubs aren't as bad as people remember, they are limited yes, but people are a lot more acclimated to anime culture than they were 20+years ago)

Yeah goofy dubs are really fun because I really like the art of voice acting and its just fascinating to hear really over-the-top preformances. I prefer dubs in general just because I can connect to it more when I imitate voices and stuff. Also I don't really enjoy reading subtitles for anything (besides foreign films)
I'm sub always and I watch most shows while it's airing, I can't even remember the last time I watched an anime subbed, maybe Hajime no Ippo like 15 years ago?

GTFO with this generalization. I've seen this said by sub fans to try and sound like they're superior. It's a matter of taste and preference FULL STOP. Some people even have visual issues that make them unable to read subs. So stop it.
How so? Like this is the only kind of dub you watch? Ghost Stories is more of an "official abridged series" than an actual dub. It's great either way.
I was ready to be convinced that Osomatsu might be good dubbed. But that was fucking terrible.
I'm not the biggest dub fan but there's nothing wrong with preferring it. My wife and I watched both FMA series recently dubbed cause it would just be easier for her to follow that way(fuck Vic Mcnogma tho).

Oh not saying there aren't some good bad dubs but like many things I feel like people ignore the sea of shit for a couple that stand out. Its like people who go on about how great anime was in the 80's when they're mostly talking about things like movies and OAV's and ignore a lot of stuff that was as subpar then as it would be today.

Me too, OP, and one of the most aggravating parts of dealing with anime fans is the hardheadedness in how you will be dismissed or looked down on for what it's an equally valid method of consuming content.
I pretty much only watch dub if someone else puts it on TV or puts on a BR where it's in English. That's it.
