Id say its pretty up there as a favorite of mine.

Filoni and Favreau really know Star Wars.

They've also seemed to do a great job of bringing in a diverse group of directors for the episodes.

I hope they start taking the reigns of the future of Star Wars.

I think it's easily the best live action Disney Star Wars so far (with Rogue One the best movie despite how much of a mess the first act is).

The last 1/3rd of Rogue One without the unnecessary fan service at the end was the best SW I have seen since the OGs.

The best Star Wars work is either ESB or Clone Wars. I have accepted nothing will ever top those two at this point.

I feel like too many episodes have been "Mando we need you to do a job you don't wanna do/we're being attacked by a monster or militant group", followed by him dealing with it or teaching villagers to deal with it, and someone might turn a gun on him from behind because they heard about a bounty.

And the thing is, that framework would be fine for a series if there was a whole lot of character and personality to flesh it all out. But he's a silent stoic guy, Baby Yoda is always gonna just be cute thing to cut away to. So... that's all you end up getting.
Yeah I felt like this season was the perfect time to come out swinging in terms changing the status quo a bit and exploring different scenario's as Mando has already come to terms with his relationship with the child last season. Still doing the same old save the backwater village scenarios don't really hit the same.

If they really want to keep doing those scenarios they have to change something. While the Clone Wars for example had a lot of help the indigenous population fight off the oppressors arcs the characters were constantly changing as they went through them. Anakins and Ahsoka's master/apprentice, father/daughter relationship kept progressing while Anakin was slowly becoming delusioned with the Jedi's slow rigid bureaucratic way of doing things and became less and less bound by them as the show went on. Ahsoka matured substantially emotionally over the cause of the show and Obiwan and Anakin's and Ahsoka relationship evolved and strained. The seeds for all of that was in season one.

The potentials certainly there but I feel like Mando needs more to bounce off of and for the show to take some risks to really hit those peaks.

It's not the best but the best 'modern' star wars. Havent seen much rebels of clone wars though. But It sure is alot better than new trilogy probably thanks to Filoni and Favreau. They are huge SW lore nerds.

Rogue one is a slight step behind as well.

It drags its feet too much, it needs to embrace its weird and wacky early format or just go more cinematic plot heavy the split between the two is a but much.

Not while the Clone Wars exists, no.

But I do love the show, and it is indeed up there for me.

Love it, and for me it´s only beaten my the Knights of the Old Republic- games and the original trilogy. I love the fanservice stuff, and I really geeked out when I saw the owner of the old armour in ep 1 of season 2.

*Edit*
And, of course, Star Wars: Dark Forces. Still love that game.

This show rekindled my love for the franchise. I'm currently watching The Clone Wars for the first time because of it.
Good stuff!

It has great production values, but it -really- needs someone else writing the scripts.

Yup. I desperately need this show to do something different. The last episode was fine. There were some fun interactions and cool creatures. The imposed restrictions of New Republic space putting these characters at-risk? That's cool and interesting and puts an interesting wrinkle on how people have to navigate this world.

But this was one of the better episodes. There've been too many where I'm itching for my phone because fundamentally, I don't care about the scene that is happening on-screen. Lines not really sticking with me, or rarely a scene where I'm like "Fuck, this person is such a good actor." Like... if I'm paying attention to a performance, it's moreso the silly surreal quality of "lol can't believe Timothy Olyphant is wearing the Boba Fett armor. Can't believe they got Amy Sedaris to say 'carbon scoring' in this performance that feels like it's a Disneyland live show or a Goosebumps episode." Or of course, Werner Herzog.

But it's not like "Fuck man, this is such a good scene!" And I know that's unfair, but it's honestly what makes this feel like fluff by there not being much overt character to latch onto.

It's definitely not better than the original trilogy. It's not better than the Last Jedi. It's on par with TFA and Rogue One at least. But it's not the prequels and Rise of Skywalker.

I don't think the show is amazing but when I watch it, I'm reminded about why star wars is cool and I leave each episode with positive vibes.

The plot being relatively low stakes is exactly what the franchise needs right now.

I find it incredibly boring tbh, and I'm getting some TLJ vibes from the show and parts of the fanbase. The only good thing about the show is Baby Yoda, and the show creators are trying really hard to ruin this as well. My family was horrified by what happened during the last episode. I don't know how long we are going to watch this show, if the show creators will continue with this neckbeard level "humor". I also don''t get the praise for the soundtrack, there is nothing great about it, none of the epicness of the movies, feels like elevator music.

Midgar, With Love
I like A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Rogue One, The Clone Wars, Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic II, Jedi: Fallen Order, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing versus TIE Fighter, Rogue Squadron II, Squadrons, the KOTOR comic book series, every Vader comic book series and the Doctor Aphra comic book series more, and despite growing tepid toward the sequel trilogy, probably still The Last Jedi more as well.

It's still pretty good.

I'm indifferent to Star Wars and Mandalorian does nothing to change that. Some episodes are ok. Found most to be dull.

No, that's fucking crazy. The characters are paper thin. The Mandalorian is an entertaining show, but it has absolutely none of the timeless themes and great character arcs that define the best of the movies.

BTW, those poll options are trash. Protip: don't bias the options toward your own opinion.

Best storyline and plot.
Really? Better than Luke's story or Vader story?

Its one of those weekly "white hat v black hat" cowboy shows dolled up with a multimillion dollar budget and the Star Wars license.

Its good, its just outrageously simple. Hella vibe, tho.

All the people complaining about lack of characterization or depth with the show… I would bet pretty much anything that most people out there are like OP and it's ticking all the right boxes for them

I like The Mandalorian enough to watch it, but it's just a fairly basic, competent action-adventure show. It's got nothing on the OT, and there have been various videogames I'd value more highly.

No. Hell NO! Are you out of your goddamn mind?

The Mandalorian is fine, it's average. It's the equivalent of an adult respectfully playing with their Star Wars toys. TROS is what happens when a child grabs a hold of all their Star Wars toys. But, it's still just playing with toys. It has nothing to say. Nothing to explore. And, nothing unique to offer. It's just a fun, enjoyable enough time.

I'd say the majority of the films are better save TROS and TPM. And Clone Wars is WAY better as a TV series.

Mandalorian isn't done yet. Wait and see.

Also Clone Wars fits your description of The Mandalorian better than The Mandalorian does. I like it, but 70% of that show is disposable filler nobody ever needs to watch. Rebels is vastly superior.

I thought the first episode of the second season of Mando was better than, like, half of the movies.

The original trilogy is still the best obviously. I really enjoyed the first season and I love mando and the child. It did dragg a bit in the middle before the awesome last few episodes. Still need to watch the second season but I would say it may not be in the top tier with Empire or Kotor but it's in the tier below that.

The performances are almost as weak as the scripts. The music doesn't really sound like Star Wars at all and comes off as pretty generic and unmemorable. That's funny considering their slavish devotion to the visual aesthetic of Star Wars.

For me, the biggest problem, besides the general plotting, is how uninteresting the characters are.

sorry op, i place it in the middle
