It's way more than that. Heck, there are a few catacombs that are designed to have these run backs built in while most of them have Marika totems.
All I'm saying is, while ER does a better job of checkpointing in a lot of places, don't expect it to always be the case because FromSoft thinks runbacks, especially boss runbacks, are fucking HILAROUS.
There's one optional area that has a Marika statue NEXT to the place you want the checkpoint, but it's a checkpoint for a different encounter, so if you leave THAT area to go to the area where you want to be, it breaks and sets you back to your last grace....which is 3 minutes away.
