Just to let people know these are my specs

5900x (4.9ghz boost clock)
32gb 3600 corsair rgb pro ram
RTX 3080,
1tb NVME Samsung 980 pro.

So yeah, straight out of the gate my impressions were not good, the game launches with HDR on and at 720p (my native res is 4k and I have HDR in Windows turned off) this seems like such a basic thing however, it's a minor setback, so I turn HDR off and exit the game after changing resolution and graphics settings, done.

Now, back in the game, I have 5 fps in the menu...turns out DX12 just flat out refuses to work, so I change it back to DX11 (to be fair it was on DX11 as default, my assumption was DX12 would be better, however I know this is hit and miss so again, minor problem and it's fixed.)

Then, when launching the game, for some reason, this game HAMMERS my cpu even more than Prime95 when it's compiling shaders, under prime95 and numerous other stress tests the max temp my CPU hits is about 74 degrees, Battlefront during shader compilation? 84 degrees! I mean, that's still within a safe range for Ryzen and during normal gameplay it's fine but why such a high spike in temp? It's a good stress test for CPU stability I suppose lol.

Now is where the real issues begin...I try to connect to the EA servers, takes me about 12 attempts after allowing it through my firewall and it finally connects, then I search for a match, I am sat in a lobby waiting for 15 people to join, I sit there about 20 mins, still 10 people need to join, I am confused, is the game already this dead? If so it begs the question, why not include bots so you can, you know, actually experience the maps and the game? I know I am late to the party here but surely EA still want people playing the game?

Anyway, I back out and hit quick game and after about another 10 mins I get into a game, runs smooth as butter, looks fantastic, wow, this is incredible, honestly felt like a real Star Wars experience, the maps look cool, all the stuff going on around the maps is fantastic! Here is the issue though, this game is NOT noob friendly whatsoever.

I say this as someone who has played FPS games my whole life, I am pretty well versed in competitive shooters, have been playing them since Doom deathmatch days, this game is BRUTAL for someone new to the game, it is an absolute meat grinder, spawn die, spawn die, spawn die.

Don't get me wrong, you will get kills, I got like 20 but the amount of times I died just became an exercise in pure frustration, think the top player on the other team had like 65 kills!

I have started to really dislike BR games lately but when compared to this kind of experience I actually see why they have become so popular in recent years, the gameplay loop here is so frustrating and I am not the type of person to get frustrated easy, I barely stepped out of spawn before I started to just get obliterated.

Recent Battlefield games have given me a similar sort of feeling so maybe it's just the way Dice designs maps now? (I used to LOVE Battlefield, played the heck out of Bad Company 2, old school Battlefield Vietnam and the original Battlefield games) but it just feels like the pacing here is more, well, like COD than Battlefield.

I was hoping I could take in some of the atmosphere of the maps with Star Wars, have a slower paced game, this is what brings me to my overall point, I would LOVE to just play against bots, is it possible? Does anybody know of a way I could just populate these maps with bots and play? I love the experience of the multiplayer I just don't get more than 20 seconds to appreciate it before I die and I really don't want to dedicate 300 hours into the game just to start enjoying the experience.

Does anybody else share my frustrations or am I alone here?

Midgar, With Love
Sorry to read there are so many issues with your experience on PC. I come back to the game every so often (on PS4) and I adore it. It's the only shooter I enjoy.

I totally get where you're coming from about wanting bots, though. There are bots, but they're restricted to filling up slots as well as offline play, IIRC?

It's a real shame because I really want to love the game you know what I mean? I love everything about it in terms of the way it makes me feel when I play, it's just quite frustrating to not be able to really soak it all in because I am constantly dying lol! Not to mention the chat (at least in the games I was in on PC) was so toxic I almost couldn't believe it (although I did turn the chat off so not a big deal in that respect.)

So do bots fill up slots then? I wasn't sure because I was waiting for so long and the server wasn't populating? Maybe it was connecting me to unofficial servers or something?

There's a co-op mode, decent fun and good for unlocking stuff. A bit on the easy side perhaps.

Unfortunately there's quite a grind to get all weapons and mods unlocked, not as bad some Battlefield games but still looking at maybe 150 kills with each weapon? Check the challenges to see unlock requirements.

Yeah it has bots.

I'm guessing there's no cross play in this game and the PC player counts have dwindled too much. On xbox, I never had to wait long for a match to get started.

The game has lots of flaws as far as the loot box stuff but it sounds like it's dead on PC. The co-op mode is still pretty decent but that's not the bulk of the game.

Games like this and Chivalry 2 are not particularly fun to play with friends in the sense that coordination is pointless because as you said it is a meatgrinder. That said these sorts of games are pretty fun to jump into MP alone because if you can manage killing sprees and chaining kills while surviving you feel like an absolute boss.

I've been casually playing it a lot, and I still have the same experience. It's pretty frustrating, which is why I don't play it as much anymore.
Ah I see, glad to see I am not alone then. I really want to love the game though, it feels so great to play and the graphics and sound design is just incredible, I wish it wasn't so frustrating tbh.

Is this what the issue is? I noticed that some people were one shotting me with pistols and I was thinking it seemed a bit overpowered?

You level up and can unlock the cards and upgrade them and they give stronger abilities and skills (and I assume weapons but I think they might just be the usual weapon upgrade path stuff of some are better than others at certain things).

I did see the co-op mode, I might give that a try, seems like something I might enjoy, does it allow you to play on the bigger maps? Or is it limited to smaller maps?

That might be the case now that I think about it, this came out before crossplay was really a thing so it might just be a PC related issue.

I dunno, to me it's more frustrating when I spend 15 minutes in a BR match just running around grabbing gear just to get shot from God knows where. At least in traditional MP I'm right back into the game. Sorry about the technical issues though, didn't encounter them myself.

I wouldn't necessarily say they are a mistake but with you being new to the game it's definitely going to be an obstacle for you.
With that being said Co-op mode is awesome, It's almost all I play and I love playing the multi as well. But it definitely is a good place to level up and play around.

I thought they changed Star Cards so everyone has the maxed versions. Make sure you equip them.

Ah, I see, that would explain it, can you unlock these cards playing Co-op?

Co-op mode is where it's at. I haven't played PvP since they released Co-op.

Honestly, I think I am going to jump back on and give co-op a spin to see what it's like.

I really appreciate all the replies and feedback from everyone as well :-).

That frustrates me in BR games as well tbh, I come from a background of CS and games like that so used to more 5v5 FPS games I guess which is probably why I am having a hard time adjusting to the game design.

I am going to give Co-op a try now and see how it feels, seems more friendly to a newer player based on what I am reading in this thread.

I've not played enough of it to really level up but I have to assume so. You just level up by using the classes and playing from what I remember.

But yeah, with your other issues, I had trouble with DX12 on my 9900k+2080Ti, it's just not running as it should. DX11 runs so much better and you don't really lose out on any noticeable features that I'm aware of.

Game is fun though when you're not just dying over and over and it looks and sounds phenomenal. Star Wars has my favourite sound effects of anything and they do a great job of that here.

The single player campaign is also pretty cool too.

Unsure tbh, don't co-op is limited to smaller portions on the bigger maps like the ship assault portions etc but I could be remembering wrong.

Re: kill counts, heroes can be pretty OP in the right hands unless countered so most games tend to have a small handful of people racking up the big scores. Wish "Boots on the Ground" was of the rotating daily events.

DX12 was a stutterfest for me.

The star cards help but don't make a huge difference from what I remember. The main issue is that there are some really min-max players who focus on the fragging rather than capturing locations.

This gives them battle points really quickly that they can then use to unlock the hero characters (rocket troopers, jedis, etc) which they then stay as for the rest of the game. The hero characters are very overpowered as I'm sure you have guessed.

Basically, the game had some design flaws and that lead to it being unbalanced if you try playing the objective. Might also explain why a lot of players moved on quickly.
