Annihiliation by Jeff Vandermeer

It's pretty different from the Netflix movie - I like it a lot more. It's also a short book, I finished it in one sitting.

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill is the best horror novel I've ever read. Absolutely left me shaking at parts.

King's 11/22/63 is a great alternate history/time travel story. There's also a guest appearance by 2 of the kids from IT as a part of the story takes place in 1950's Derry, just after Pennywise is defeated the first time.

Hyperion by Dan Simmons is sci-fi with a bit of horror

I'm currently reading book two and was thinking just that :p They have been good, but so very drawn out.

My favorite pure sci-fi book series is easily the "bobiverse" series. The excellent pacing and short chapter structure jumping among the many personalities made it incredibly hard to put down.
