Nah. To make the combat interesting it becomes too much of a typical JRPG grind fest. Just with super simplistic and terrible combat. Pokémon is actually just bad.

First game was a treat when I was 9 though.

I used to. I was obsessed as a kid. Collected cards, played the hell out of R/B/Y and Gold & Silver. Then basically didn't play any of the mainline Pokemon games until Sw/Sh. Needless to say I was hoping it would pull me back into Pokemon and I was very disappointed in that game. Didn't enjoy it. I don't think I'll ever get fully into it again but hopefully the next games are better.

I think by now I love the idea of Pokémon way more than I actually love playing Pokémon in any form.

But for the sake of the thread, I do love Pokémon. There's a few low poly 3d printed starters floating around the house somewhere.

I played them religiously, all the time up until Ruby/Sapphire. Ruby/Sapphire are still my favorite of the series and I do miss the series. I know I missed a lot of great installments like Black/White which is a shame.

Always been my favorite media franchise ever, but playing the TCG this past year has really reignited my love for it.

You can't just make a thread about how much you love Pokemon and imply you're skipping HG/SS.

I dont know if there is something wrong with me because even while in their lowest point according to people, I have never stop liking Pokémon. It has this very special spot on my life where I can think about the game and the moment I have played it, starting at my second year on school until my first year on college.

I just think it is neat.

Of course I do. I don't play every game but Pokémon is so big that the merch and cards keep me interested.

I used to, but since SM the games have been pretty miserable and I can't believe the DP remakes are going to $60 with what they've shown off. I have a complete living dex sitting in Home and like 12 boxes of fully trained competitive Pokemon I've imported along the way since Emerald and I'm thinking about letting my Home subscription lapse and never pick up a Pokemon game again.

I used to, but it's getting harder and harder considering the quality of the mainline games nowadays

The new Pokemon and character designs, however, continue to be incredible to this day. It's just everything else that's the problem.
This post nails it. The designs remain great, but the games leave much to be desired. Hopefully Legends turns things around.

Yep! Hated SwSh, but the franchise as a whole is one of my absolute favorites. Not excited for the D/P remakes, but I've been playing Renegade Platinum and I'm super excited for New Pokemon Snap and Legends Arceus!

I actually haven't played a Pokemon game in ages and I have Pokemon Sword in the mail. I'm worried about being disappointed but happy to go into it with an open mind. I'm really hoping it captivates me like the older titles did.

I've loved the series since Red and Blue launched in the West. But I thought X/Y were really weak, Sun/Moon only a bit better, and don't get me started on the travesty that is Sword/Shield. So now I love parts of Pokémon, but the series has really declined in ambition, polish, and content. I am excited for the Gen 4 remakes though, might even buy both copies.

Honestly, not anymore.

It's been basically on rails since Gen 6 and I haven't been actually in love with the series since then.

I do, fell back into it with Shield not too long ago and am 5/8 badges for Omega Ruby. Way too many favorites to list but I've definitely come around to Electric type because it has one weakness (Ground).

Would definitely recommend grabbing B/W2 and HG/SS since you don't have them on your list. I'd say there's at least a decent amount of enjoyment in all of the games, though probably least so in Gen 7 and 8. Thinking back on the GBA and DS era games fondly is something I do a lot for sure.

You should go give eBay a glance re: BW2 and HGSS prices. lol

No, I never got into it unfortunately. I was there when the hype started but no one of my friends were playing it, but the class a year younger where. I watched the first season of the TV series but that´s it.

The only thing I played was Pokemon GO but only for a few weeks after that I switch back to Ingress.

No, I played Blue when I borrowed it from a friend in 1999. Finished the main game but never loved it.

Watched some of the cartoon when I came home from school.

Bought X when people at work were hyped about it. Played 10 hours then dropped it..

Saw Detective Pikachu and liked it.

That's my history with Pokemon. I do not not love it. But i admire its ability to remain beloved throughout the years. It could easily have been a fad but it has stood the test of time.

Yeah, franchise will always have a special place in my heart. Probably first franchise I got really into when I was 4-8 years old and have enjoyed it since (outside my parent encouraged I'm too old and cool for it phase in late middle/early high school).

I like red/blue. But that's mostly because it represents a specific time in my life. But I've tried to play the sequels and nothing captures that magic...or just ends up feeling like a retread because it not doing anything to feel "special" again.

The franchise desperately needs some freshness injecting into it.

I've never played Pokemon and I've never watched Pokemon. Is there a game that's a good one to start with?

It's pretty swell!

Got a Game Boy Pocket for my 8th birthday and Pokémon Blue and I've been hooked ever since.

i liked the first game a lot (for its time)

everything since then seemed like low-effort rehashes & cash-grabs

why are the graphics still outdated by 15 years?
why are there still no difficulty levels?
where's the MMO?

I forgot to mention, but I own Soul Silver already, but never got around to playing it. Will do.

B/W2 I have to get, but SS I will play since I have it already.

I actually started playing Pokemon on the GBA. Never had an original gameboy and its games back then

Yes, since I was a child and still do now. Sometimes that love turns into hurt and disappointment like when I played through Sword and Ultra Moon, but I still love the series. There's a special place in my heart that will always be for Pokemon.

Honestly, as a former fanboy of the series, it kind of blows my mind that after so many years, so much success to the point of it becoming one of the biggest franchises in the world (gaming or not), the latest games still look like thay are made by a super small team with a tiny budget. Like, what's going on?

One would expect that by now, Game Freak would be at the level of something like Naughty Dog or other gigantic developer teams, especially under the full backup of Nintendo. Where do all the billions of dollars this franchise generates go...?

I love it been with the series since Gold and Silver on the gameboy color and I've enjoyed pretty much every entry. With Sun and Moon being my absolute all time favorites right now. I would die from hype if we ever got Sun and Moon 2 lol.

Yeah, fuck, sure, I enjoyed it as a kid and I got back into it recently and I actually love Sword & Shield, like I even think it's a good game and my favorite Pokémon game so far, so yeah. Fight me. I don't care. I'm into it.

Love to hear it! All came together so well for me when I played it. The music, new pokemon, and the region were all A+ for me. I also loved the cast and to this day it is the only pokemon game that had me smiling the entire time the ending credits played. Was such a nice game.

Don't even get me started on some of the alolan variant pokemon like Ninetails either. Ice Ninetails is in my top 3 of all time lists haha.
