Nintendo has been (rightfully IMO) blasted in the past for picking and choosing which third party games are allowed on their platform or censoring those games in various ways. Since then they've decided to basically just let the ratings boards decide and keep their hands off of everything else.

To their favor, isn't this why rating boards like ESRB came to be? I suppose it was the same with others like CERO, PEGI and USK.

It's funny when some well known devs couldn't even get a Switch dev kit at launch because of Nintendo's vetting process. Now Nintendo opened the flood gates and don't seem to care anymore.

Maybe its just me but this seems relatively harmless in comparison to that "Don't Get Caught" game that made headlines not too long ago lol

I prefer Nintendo to allow literally anything that passes ESRB certification onto the eshop rather than arbitrarily selecting what games they allow. 99% of people will never even know this shit exists anyway, it's primarily there for people who are gonna be actively searching for it.

I'm assuming Nintendo allows it because they want their revenue share from people buying it on their platform.

If it's adults and not children like that creepy train conductor dating sim thing (also on eShop), then I don't really care.

God....I am just so fucking disgusted. Show me a similar game that allows you to do this to men and I'll level out, but there is a sickening amount of games like this and for there to be this movement of weirdos who want to fight back against "censorship" just to have games like this just......turns my stomach.

You know if you don't agree with OP that's one thing but when they've explained that they are uncomfortable with the objectification of women being the entire point in a game where you shoot clothes off of women - maybe posting things like "Is there a demo" and "thanks for bringing it to my attention" is just I dunno, a tad shitty?

Well, Nintendo still hasn't fully recovered from the damage caused by their heavy-handed censorship policies in the NES~N64 eras, people still think their consoles only have family friendly games... so they're doing the right thing by not bothering with the content of the games (unless they're actually illegal or something).

isn't this a problem with the ESRB first? like, if the ESRB has a problem, Nintendo tells the 3rd party dev to edit the game or the ESRB itself tells them? (no idea how the flow happens when something has to be changed)

if the ESRB is letting this slide, they should be the first ones people look at when iffy stuff gets through.

People on this board legitimately believe Nintendo should be
  • Bug/qa testers
  • Rating boards
  • Marketing departments
For the 3rd party games released on their system

It's nothing recent, they had an uncensored version of BMX XXX on the gamecube, while the PS2 version was censored.

1497871017-241001353.jpg

Taking influence from TV shows like Jackass, the game included humping dogs, foul language, and naked women, both animated and real. Somewhere underneath it all was a solid BMX game [...]
Due to its heavily publicized nude scenes, involving real women thanks to a partnership with the New York stripclub Scores, BMX XXX was banned from outlets like Wal-Mart and Toys"R"Us

The fact that it is a shoot'em up makes the whole thing even more amusing and there's literally no point in the pictures in the background

A sizeable portion of Era is a-ok with misogyny if it relates to "waifus" or anime-type games. And yes, they always out themselves in threads like this.

And it's depressing reading so many users in this thread buying it (or saying they will) pulling "me are sexuallised/objectified to!!!" crap with pics and posts or trying to act indigent about people having an issue with it. It bothers me how normalised creepy stuff like this has become and makes it no so surprised that women are mistreated, sexualized and objectified by the devs and companies and so much other sexist and creepy crap when so many players make it clear this is what they want and want women to be.

This is making me really disappointed in ERA. And really? Their are people pulling the "Well violent games are there!?" defence?

OP This is much much worse - SUPER SUPER NSFW

I'm not sure how anyone can defend these games. I think there's too many to list but there is a ton of Japanese/anime games with underage girls that really should not be looked into on the Nintendo E-shop store.

Don't get me wrong, there's probably other storefronts with similar games, but Nintendo are very lax or just don't care about what goes onto the E-ssop which is kinda scary.
Jfc. People saying it's just money shouldn't be so quick on forgiving a company for this reason. Promoting this kind of misoginistic trash is not exactly helping society. I get that dealing with this kind of things is complex and should be handled carefully but can we at least not jump to defend Nintendo for allowing this junk on their device?

Having a game in a digital shop isn't the same as promoting it...I don't recall this being in a Direct

People wanted the Eshop to be more indie friendly so that does mean games of questionable content and quality can show up from time to time. Steam has had the same problem for years.

Maybe the ESRB did rate it only an M or whatever, but Nintendo has the right to cultivate the store as they please. With them allowing this garbage onto the storefront it seems like they don't really give a damn. This hands off, automate approvals bullshit that started with Steam doesn't fucking work. These storefronts are making massive amounts of money. Some of that money should be reinvested into the platform to continuously making it a better place for everyone to shop at.

And no, violence in games != misogyny (unless the violence was done only towards women) so brining violence into this conversation doesn't hold water to me.

In the USA, yes. Are you old enough to remember Janet Jackson and the Super Bowl performance back in 2004?

The market decides the existence of those games.

There's just no rule against oversexualized, objectifying games, so you can't just ask a platform holder to not allow them in. Only when it starts harming them financially.

Thus a low-profile game like that will barely affect anything.

For all the valid complaints about objectification and stuff, at the end of the day, it's just a trashy porn game and it's not really trying to be anything else. Sometimes, people just wanna jack it and and the feelings/portrayal of women just aren't relevant there( likely, the fact that it's kind of fucked up is probably what makes it 'hot' to the people that buy these games).

Earlier, it was mentioned that one might be okay with it if there was a male version of it and, well, to that I say that if someone wants to make that, there's nothing stopping them. It could probably be made on a shoestring budget like I assume this and Deep Space Waifu and their ilk are made on, it wouldn't be too difficult/costly if there were a true desire/demand. To me, it's akin to how women primarily (to my knowledge) are the ones who buy 'trashy' romance novels so they're largely made to cater to them, this would be the equivalent tier for dudes. It's a substanceless, disposable piece of media meant to get dudes to jack it and move on.

I'm more surprised about the amount of Porn VNs that end up on console with the porn stripped out. Like, at that point, what's the point?

Because the Switch is the true successor of the Vita.
And these games have an audience.
I also find it always strange that violence is cool, but pervy content isn't.

This is what Furukawa had to say at a shareholder's meeting:
Pretty much the best answer. Nintendo leaves it to local ratings boards for an objective classification and to ensure fairness. And given their own older history with product approval I have to say I greatly prefer this approach even if it leads to some releases I might find personally distasteful or offensive. The benefits outweigh the downsides, on the whole it's better for both developers and consumers.

If people take issue with content, those concerns should be leveled at their local ratings group. It's why those organizations exist.
