Your aren't alone OP, this is the first time in since like the first Playstation that I'm not getting anything at launch. Hardware is not even slightly exciting and there's only like one game that comes to mind that I'd want to play this year. Feels weird to have zero care that a new system is gonna be released in just a few days.

Could be a bit of depression or some other thing, this year isn't the most conducive to being optimistic (until lately).

Although, I'm pretty stoked!

Hell, I'm starting to feel gaming isn't for me anymore, let alone next gen.

Yes, exactly guys... maybe is the type of games and how they provide those games are changing!?

I'm the complete opposite. It's my first ever launch day console (PS5) and I'm really hyped and happy to get into next gen so early.

OP you don't have to be 'part' of the generation to be a part of the discussion. Even I, who is happy to get my monolith tomorrow, doesn't feel all too ecstatic about next-gen games right now. Maybe I've seen enough launches to know how this goes, who knows lol

Just game man. Find an old game and do an LTTP or something. Maybe something will come later and will interest you, maybe not, but don't hold out like you gotta be excited for this. That's called having a job and the moment gaming become a job for me I will send all my old hardware to Gaming Outreach lol

If all you like is JRPGs I have bad news for you...

I'm sorry that I'm not interested in paying half a thousand dollars just to have access to another slate of AAA Western open world checklist games and multiplayer shooters. The hardware is boring, the games are boring, and the onslaught of industry consolidation we're going to see over the next five years is only going to make things worse for everyone.

I don't see the issue. Tbh I'm really into the hardware this time around, not the games, so I'll be buying day one for the first time. And for PS4 I waited over 6 months because I wasn't interested at launch.

Just jump in when you're ready.

XSX/PS5 gen is more hype for me than the current one..
Had plenty of friends that skipped the last one and gamed exclusively on PC.. This time we are all going in - looking forward to the 2-3 sessions a year as we all got kids :)

maybe this Gen happened way early?

It definitely isn't this. Those CPUs have been shit since... launch.

The hardware is leaps and bounds better and it raises the bar immensely not only for consoles but also for gaming in general (since so many PC are targeted at consoles and ported). It's fine to not care but let's not pretend it's because of the hardware.

And Sony will continue games and sequels that you don't like. Rest easy my friend.

I mean you're not entirely wrong, but believe it or not I'm spending half a grand to see if I can emulate my copy of F-Zero GX even though I got a gamecube and a pc capable of that already lol. I like messing with hardware so I don't think it's boring at all.

You buy consoles for fun, not to be part of something. Broaden your gaming tastes if nothing on PS5/XSX atm is calling your attention

Video games aren't going anywhere.

Try to get into other things and see if your interest ever returns.

If it doesn't don't buy the new consoles, if it does buy the console/s you want.

Yeah, if you enjoy messing with hardware I can see why there would be allure there. I don't really like hardware at all - all it is is a vehicle for content to me, so if the content isn't there, the value is nonexistant.

Everyone's reasons can differ. Personally for me, is a combination of the road towards digital becoming more prominent, 2 of my favorite gaming franchises latest entries being disappointments and just the feeling of the types of games that I enjoyed just aren't getting made much anymore compared to prior generations and as such, this upcoming generation and gaming at the moment isn't at all exciting to me since it feels like Gen 8 Part 2. Lately, I've been enjoying myself much more with passive media.

Agree with OP.

There just aren't any games to get excited for yet.

Resist the marketing and the needless hype. These are just machines.

yeah that's understandable man. cuz like you i don't really have anything I wanna play on these systems. I envy folks that can drop hundreds of hours into those big GaaS titles without issue. Sometimes for me a 40 hour game can easily take over a month, and spending 2 hours of gaming a day feels like I've spent too much time lol

ooo touch on those silent hills fam. lotsa old horror games that i can recommend (never beat them though cuz horror games terrify me). What games do you have in mind?

Same tbh, growing up with games has been great the excitement of seeing what is now possible at the dawn of a new generation was always the best part. I know plenty of people disagree and that gaming has never been better than today but honestly I dont agree, atleast not entirely.

So much stuff just feels the same, games that disrespect your time, boring limp lifeless open worlds, too much design by committee, constant nickel & diming, service platforms instead of new games.

Ill check out Resi 8 & FF16 when they hit PC, Ill grab spiderman on PS4, ill be gutted to miss out on the new Ratchet but honestly the quality of the writing has gone downhill and its not like the formulas made a meaningful jump well... since going commando.

I hope something comes a long that can get me hype for PS5 but im not gonna hold my breathe

I don't know, maybe it's the games I enjoy nowadays, or rather the lack of them. I might just be getting older. I am jealous of everyone getting hyped about the next generation but I just can bring myself to feel it.

Ever since the ps2 it's been about diminishing returns in graphics to me (just my personal opinion, I know there have been major improvements between each new console generation), and I just hate playing FPS games with a controller.

I do want to be sucked in but I think I will give it a couple of years before I get a PS5, just as I did with the PS4.

I do however dream of upgrading my PC with a 3080 so I can, continue to have very little urge to, play any of the hundreds of games I already own at high settings.

I do love the new tech though! It's going to be interesting to see what the new consoles can do and innovate on.

I didn't get into this previous console gen until 2016 with the PS4 Pro and I am still behind on a lot of games. I don't feel the need to get hyped about next gen when the backlog is still exciting, cheap and full of gems. I am also still impressed with a lot of current gen games on the Pro specs.

I am expecting there to be another mid-gen refresh in couple years, so I will probably just be 2-3 years behind for the time being, and that is fine with me.

I think it looks fine. But I'm never buying a console just for one FF game ever again. Not after I wasted $600 on a PS3 for Versus XIII, and especially since we know XVI isn't even really exclusive.

There's just no big games, not even on the horizon, that really justify an upgrade. I'm getting both for usability improvements. That's it basically. Very lackluster. We've had diminishing returns for some generations now, but at least the 360/PS3 were getting really long in the tooth.

Yup. Nothing like spending $600 on a console to play a game and then the game doesn't even come out at all.
My uncle and I spent 600 for KH3. All we got that gen were KH handheld games and 'remasters'. Lol

Aliens heck no lol, I played it on the Xbox with the Kinect and like the alien could hear noise through it IIRC. It was really cool and it really sucked cuz I would cough and then a tail would gib me. I screamed so much during that game. Especially the robot guys that were so nonchalant and they'd strangle you or something. Nah I'm good :P

For me it's games where i have to fight the controls and have limited ammo and when my weapons barely work against baddies. I really don't like that stuff but it tends to be the norm with horror games :P

Next-gen is a transition for me, something I slide into slowly. I never line up for the latest and greatest box. I skip all the anguish I see here daily with people tripping for pre-order, gnashing teeth over scalpers etc. etc. I'm not participating in all that crap. I didn't do it for the PS4 and I don't see a point in doing it for the PS5. I'll grab one within the first year. I want to get one, I'm just not in a hurry at all. The games will be there when I grab a new console. I didn't grab a Switch either, until it had been on shelves for around a year.

PC is my pillar and I guess that it being without generations has me absolutely relaxed about consoles, which I only get for exclusives.

It sounds like you're just interested in different things. That's okay! The new gen is having the opposite effect for me - I hadn't been playing so much, partly because I was engaging with other things, and partly because there were no AA games coming out (games with Aske Appeal). The one-two punch of Doom Eternal and Covid got me back in the saddle, and then seeing the new PS5 controller cranked my hype from somewhere around 2-3 to 11.

Since I don't have hype or money to waste in a new gen at this moment, I just bought a raspberry pi 4. I almost don't play it but I'm having fun testing the emulators and the games. Time to go back and play games that I never tried before.

Both PS4 and one x has been collecting dust for years now. I play switch and on my laptop. Planning on skipping PS5 for as long as I can. Probably won't get XBSX at all.

I'm with you OP - This will be the first time in forever I do not buy a console day 1.

For me, Ive realized I've gone back to being primarily a Nintendo and Sega gamer and I'm enjoying that.

When/if Sega releases some next gen only games then I may make the jump. For now, my Switch and Xbone/Ps4 are more than enough.

First gen I'm not all in at launch. The whole pre ordering debacle did it for me. I'm spending $700+ I should not be inconvenienced and have to run through hoops.

I'll buy a next gen console when I can freely do so whether its next week or 2025.
