That sounds terrifying. Worst dream experience I ever had was when I woke up in the same chair where I fell asleep but I couldn't move my body. I couldn't move my arm or stand up or lift my head. Then I finally realized I was still sleeping and actually woke up. That paralyzed feeling was so intense and scary.

Fascinating stories here.

To those that bled out...

Did yawl wake up peeing the bed,

or is that just me?

I have loads of dreams where I'm in all sorts of situations, then all of a sudden, I just have to stop and have a pee. The fear of pissing the bed frightens me more than actually dying in dreams.

The only times I've died are situations where I'm falling and can't control it. I close my eyes yet I still feel the thud of my body hitting the ground. Then I wake up.

I read somewhere that these dreams were indicating failure or a fear of failing.

Somehow I've learnt how to fly now a lot, I think I can attribute it to all those Zelda games I used to play.

I have only died in a dream once that I can recall. I don't remember if I knew the cause (maybe it was a car accident?), the dream basically just consisted of me in an ER as they were trying to save me. I didn't feel any pain but I was aware of what was going on and recall hearing the beeeeep as I flatlined and then the silence when they turned the monitor off. I just remember laying there in the dark just thinking to myself "OK, I guess that's it, let's see if anything happens". As I was waiting I could feel things winding down, I likened it to a fan whose power was shut off but keeps spinning for a little bit. As I could feel that "fan" getting slower and slower I started panicking that nothing was happening (I don't believe there is actually anything after death) and then it was just dark and silent. I did not go back to sleep after I woke up from that.

Got lethal injection in one of my dreams and experienced something similar to what you experienced, OP. Just began to feel my consciousness and lifeforce begin to slowly drain from me, and then everything began to get hazy and all I could see was white.

Of course it can happen.

The only thing I can't reliably do in dreams is run. For fucks sake when I have to run in dreams I get so uncoordinated and my runs turn into bizarre things where there's no balance or order to my legs moving... Like that physics-y game that had you pressing buttons to get your knees, ankles, and legs to move independently, whatever it was called.

I'll start off fine but then like "Forget how to run with coordination" and slowly slow down until I'm basically hopping in place.

I've died in one of my dreams before, and it also came with ending credits and music.

Then I woke up.

I've died in my dreams more times than I can count. I usually don't experience all black nothingness though. Generally, it's like, "fuck, I'm dead," then I'll either wake up, or I'll segue into another dream. The worst is when I die in my dreams in a completely "normal"/"realistic" way, like drowning, hit by a car, shot, stabbed, etc, etc. It's one thing to die in a dream because you were eaten by a dragon, but another to die in a dream where you were robbed at gunpoint. That shit sucks.

I always assume it's normal to die in dreams, and I don't think I ever heard it was impossible to die in a dream. Even so, it's happened so many times for me that I'd have ignored the people saying you can't anyway XD

I die all the time in my dreams. It's never really fun, but dreams be dreams. I dunno.

Don't sweat it, OP. Until it happens again and again and again and you realize you're predicting your own future. Be the robber, not the hostage. Kill a poacher. Eat a turkey leg at a Ren fest. T-Bone a steak!

Died in many dreams. I think I usually wake up once killed.

Couple I remember are being up high in a sckyscraper and a huge wave was coming and then hit the building, and another where I was shot.

Definetly remembered being stabbed multiple times by eh...something that I'm too embarrassed to mention even online.

Anyways, the thing I found interesting is that I woke up and realized that it was my sister poking me in my chest to wake up because someone was knocking at the door XD

This is only the first step. There are others. Use the fear you learned in that dream. Learn to control it. Find me when you get there.

Um... who told you this?

I once had a dream where I was brutally murdered over and over.

First time I was dismembered slowly and methodically limb by limb. Second time was being crushed slowly by a compactor. Third time asphyxiated to death by being buried alive. Fourth time eaten by a shark. Fifth time set on fire. Sixth time bludgeoned to death.

The seventh time I didn't die and the nightmare finally ended with me in a soaked bed of cold sweat. Fucking terrifying.

I had a recurring nightmare when I was younger that the same dude used to stab me in the stomach until I bled out and died. He was my friend but one too many of those dreams made me realize my subconscious was telling me something.
Literally we had a huge falling out in which he attacked me (fortunately sans knife) and we never spoke again.

That was just one of many, many dreams I have had over my life where I have died in my dreams.

I once had a dream of being mauled by wolves and dying in the snow (to Trans Siberian Orchestra's Carol of the Belks) and my soul remained in the dead body on the blizzard yay mountain in complete darkness.

I had this nightmare of Christmas Eve, I shit you not!

Had a dream last week that I died in a plane. Besides feeling regret about leaving my mother alone in some difficult circumstances, I felt a overwhelming sense of peace and acceptance as I saw the water getting closer and closer to the passenger window as we were speeding down. I was okay with everything I was able to do in life and I was ready to go.

I still feel that peace for whatever reason. Kind of creeps me out sometimes if I had to be honest.

My throat got slashed in a dream and I felt the chocking sensation, not a very pleasant feeling.

I remember getting killed by a ghost in a dream a few years back. It was sort of like a horror movie; I just saw a flash of the ghost and then it cut to black. But then a date appeared, which I intuited as the date that I would be reincarnated.

I think that's the only time I can remember.

I got buried alive at the bottom of an hour glass, and was in complete panic. As the sand got to my neck I knew I was going to die. It went over my head and everything went to black. It was clam, still, silent, and I was at the most at peace I have ever felt in my entire life. I got revived in the dream and then went and did some other unrelated dream stuff.

I was in middle school at the time and the dream help me overcome my fear of death. When my time comes I look forward to the horrible wonderful black void.

I don't have the same chance as most of you here, I can barely remember any of my dreams the second I wake up. Sometimes if I concentrate very hard I can remember very, very small details. And most of it doesn't make any sense. In order to tell them I'd have to actually write them like stories and fill in the blanks.

I wish I had dreams that made sense, and that I could remember them. Do you guys write them when you wake up or something? You can tell a lot of details.

I once had a dream that I was in the afterlife and was told by a someone in robes that I had died in my sleep. Then met family members that had died.
because it was a dream so it was dreamlike so truly believed I had died when I woke up it was the most horrible dream I had ever had.

I always have trouble remembering my dreams but I feel like I died in a dream on two different occasions this past week, and I don't remember that happening to me before

I remember having a dream where I got shot in the head. Don't really remember why it happened or anything regarding the contents of the dream up until that part. The distinctly remember feeling the bullet exit, which I'm not sure if something you could actually feel in that situation. Didn't hurt, and it didn't even "feel" like there was anything in my skull either. just the sensation of something entering and exiting real fast, which is all my brain could really think to do I guess. Still unpleasant.

Yea i have had many dreams involving dying. I think one of the most surreal ones was when i was dreaming i was with a bunch of pornstars in a giant orgy (i swear it was like a group of 10) in my gf's apartment and she walks in and starts choking me to death. It took a long time and entire time she's choking me, i went through a lot of thoughts because it was a slow ass death.

Congrats on the dream sex.

I have a lot of dreams like this. Terrifying. When I was a kid I had one similar to yours but where my murderer broke my fucking neck. I swear I could feel pain and my sight went 180 until I was facing my killer.

So I had always heard dying in your own dream was impossible. That's why you always wake up before you hit the ground if you're falling.

Well, last night I had a dream where I was in some sort of hostage situation and I got executed by being shot through the neck. I felt the bullet rip through me, felt my throat fill with blood, felt the loss of control of my body and witnessed the world go dark with enough time to realize my life was about to end.

As I fell onto the floor I experienced an extended period of nothing but black. No sound, no sight, no feeling. Just me and my panic as I realized that death was a perpetual state of being aware that I was stuck in nothingness. (I don't actually believe that btw. I actually think death is probably just like before you were born.)

Anyways, that was worst nightmare I've ever had and I don't wish that experience on anyone.

Dying in dreams i haven't experienced but I had several torture nightmares. Like being drowned in a barrel of water or being inserted back first in a spike.

I've only been truly terrified by a dream once. I became aware of the fact that I was dreaming, and started poking at the boundaries of the space (opening books and trying to see how my brain would fill in the pages, things like that), but when I decided to wake myself up, I "awoke" still trapped within a dream, and aware that my body wasn't responding. From there it was just sheer panic at the thought that I might be comatose.

That's a myth. I've potentially "died" several times. Once, I was shot and floated above my body. Another time, I was shot by a nazi and clenched my eyes.

Last night I was attacked by old people and possibly died, only to be redeemed by a cyborg. My viewpoint often goes to a third point observer in these cases.

I know that feeling, OP. The scary part is, its sort of "real" in a way that life rarely is (without psychedelics). Being stuck in nothingness, realizing the infinite void. In life we seem to do everything we can to escape it, like people that always fill the silence with sound. But it's always there, waiting. Night!

When I was little I dreamt that the school bus in an expedition we had plan IRL crashed and we all died... I remember feeling the way the bus lost control (kinda like you feel it when you fall in dreams) and next thing I was in this weird platform where I ended having an immense feeling of joy and love (self produced, by thinking of all those who I loved) and that elevated me and got to this entity that greeted me. I asked if I should be afraid, the entity said (I remember it cristal clear, cause it later impacted me when I saw Jack Black) "Not a man like you", then the dream ended and I woke up.

Fun fact, the class trip got canceled over 5 times during the whole scholar year due to heavy storms (since it was an outdoor expedition, we needed clear day). I remember laughing every time it got canceled with a friend cause I had told him the very first day that we were supposed to go to the expedition, and each time it got canceled we were sort of looking at each other with "mmm... okay...."

When I was around 12, I dreamed that I had died (I think I got hit by a truck or something), then I had been reborn as another child to my same parents. So in the dream I was only like 4 years old, yet I still had the mind of my 12 year old self, and of course my parents were astonished by the miracle of having there son back who had died years earlier. I can't really explain how the time skips worked, but the dream wasn't unusually long or anything.

Also a few times in my mid-20's, I dreamed that my brother (who was studying astrophysics at the time) was screwing around creating black holes at our parents house, and usually the black hole would end up rapidly expanding to consume everything, including myself. Those dreams and other "end of the world" dreams often give me a odd sense of peace rather than fear.

Damn, I had a dream pretty similar to that some years ago. I was getting off a bus with some friends when some dude approached me and shot me in the throat. I grabbed my throat as I fell to the ground and then I saw everything go black as I realized that was about to die, but then I woke up. Glad it didn't keep going like yours did.
