There are games struggling to run at half the framerate that don't look half as good as this. Goddamn Capcom struck gold with the RE Engine.

Just like Capcom struck gold with the MT Framework, which was probably my favourite engine from the previous gen (And current, MH World is running on a modified version of the MT Framework)

It has a more limited scope than a lot of games, but looking as good as it does while running at 60fps on console makes it by far the most technically impressive game of the generation to me. Runs like a dream on PC too, I play at 144fps with all the settings maxed out. (1080p though)

It's the best-looking game of the generation, as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely gorgeous, and 60FPS to boot.

Capcom is... bbbbafflingly good at creating new engines.

Which games struggle at 30 fps that don't look half as good as this?

It's a linear game with static lighting and is totally unimpressive graphically outside of carefully crafted cutscenes.

BFV running at 60 fps on consoles is way more impressive IMO.

You know what?

I prefer games with "limited scope" 90% of the time.

That "limitation" actually promotes attention to detail (by not being just a part of the scope, but most of it, percentage wise), thus: higher quality - more detailed environments and assets, more attention to lore/quests/dialogues, and most of all: LESSER graphical glitches (pop in, aggressive LOD transformations, low-res filtered shadows, etc.)

Example: DMC5, RE7, RE2 Remake, God of War 2018, Luigis Mansion 3, Gears of War 4, Halo 1-2-3-4, Metroid Prime 1-2 and others are all very "contained" but that limited scope actually gives you the "highest quality scope".

All of those games will continue to look well 20 years from now, when other current more ambitious games (engine, map-size) will probably look terrible.

One of the only instances where I have seen that "more scope" actually kept attention to detail and overall graphical quality was Assassins Creed Origins back in 2017.

Gears 5 looks better and runs at 60fps too, so I'd say that edges it.

That said, I think DMC V runs at a slightly higher native resolution on the X, IIRC.

So what are the chances that the next Monster Hunter will move on to RE engine in the future. Cause dmc5 and re2 ran really well on my pc

Wow I can't believe someone is really trying to downplay DMC5. I seriously cant fathom this. It looks and plays excellent in ALL game play on the XBX and PC versions.

Capcom has a damn good engine team. Still I'd like to know whatever happened to the Panta Rei engine though.

Dmcv and Remake 2 were such a treat this year. I hope we get an Onimusha game in this engine one day.

The lack of AO (on consoles at least) & SSS in game shows the compromise for 60fps, but the cutscenes are imo hands down the best in any game, even better than RDR2 & DS, maybe even better than TLOU2, i just really love the facial animations, something about them just works.

Characters models are fantastic (especially on cutscenes) environments look realistic but can look really ugly and drab, its also a very linear game.

It looks quite good for a late gen60fps game on consoles it has obvious limitations .its not comparable to say, RDR2 or open world game

It has some rather repetitious and simple looking assets, with some pretty drab and ugly parts in the more open environments tbh. Cutscenes look amazing though. I think the engine is mostly tailored in crafting smaller linear environments, RE2:Remake was more consistent and looked better during gameplay imo.

Definitely one of the best looking games, but the cutscenes weren't 60fps on console. There were also significant drops in multiple sections.

But even as a fan of linear games, I found DMC5 to be way too linear and claustrophobic in its design, which certainly helped to achieve its visuals.

cutscenes and character models are great, but the environments and general asset quality are standard at best.

RE: Revelations, EX Troopers, and AA5&6 + The Great Ace Attorney 1&2 are hands down some of the best looking games on the 3DS.

MT Framework was ridiculous.

It's very beautiful, but it's ridiculously linear/not that much is interactive.

I'd argue DMC4 in 2008 was an even greater achievement in this regard as it was an actual locked 60 fps and considering how poorly games ran on the preivous generation of consoles.

Some great looking areas, some very average ones. Overall I found RE2R and Monster Hunter World (even if not 60fps) more technically impressive.

wait what does stigma even mean here? people thinking 60fps is too important or not important enough?
not important enough. wanting 30 to be the standard for most games and 60 to only exist for extremely twitch competitive stuff.

I think there's a place for mixing framerates in games, as traditional animation does it all the time. but when a player has direct control of the camera, jittery movements are always inferior and often cause motion sickness. plus there's no good reason why games shouldnt be exactly as responsive as intended.

wouldn't call it an amazing feat, late gen DMC looking great at 60 fps should be expected

but no denying RE Engine put in that work

Lies. Base Xbox is clearly running at 30fps. When a console player joins my campaign I laugh at their choppy 30fps animation it plays.
