When you say playable, do you mean you can only control one member of a party, or do you mean there's no party to speak of? If the former, I don't much care. FFXV launched that way and I was fine with it. If the latter, that's a huge hit to my enthusiasm.

No party of any kind.

I'm kind of assuming it's a co-op oriented service game, so probably not much surprise. Usually you only have one player character in games like FF14 or Destiny or even Dying Light.

So is this about the director or the fact that you only play as one protag? Pretty boring to be honest. If I had to pick a director it would be Naoki Yoshida, he did amazing work with XIV

Depends entirely on execution, Lightning Returns only had one protagonist and in terms of combat and game design it was one of the better entries in the series.

I love RPG's where there is no party. I hate managing everyone's shit. Give me the KH option where I have party members if you must but never have to worry about them. In Dragon Age: Inquisition I spent so much time buying and equipping each of my characters every hour.

They just have to be interesting. That goes for both their story AND game play. The original version of DMC3 only had Dante, and it's still one of the greatest games of all time.

However Dante is interesting, and surrounded by interesting characters. His game play also has a truly mind-blowing amount of variety, to the point where as long as you're willing to experiment with weapon/style combinations you will find more than most people could ever want.

HOWEVER.

DMC3 is immediately supplanted by DMC3SE, which adds Vergil and thus the game is immediately improved upon. DMC4 adds Nero, and then is itself supplanted by DMC4SE which adds Vergil and Lady.

I would be initially disappointed if I heard FF16 only had one protagonist, but again if they show game play and story that is fundamentally interesting then I'd at least give it a chance. However every interesting character they show around them would always trigger that "what if..." Response.

Looking back on FF15 as it launched, Noctis may have some interesting stuff but he just doesn't have enough to carry through the entire game. FF15 as it is today, with all party members playable is (in a more ideal world) how the game should have launched.

i wouldnt mind if instead of pure "no-party" there was a rotating cast throughout the game at certain points to have a duo or trio here and there.

I wouldn't be surprised, and if SE patched in a party later. XV was so lame. They could get rid of magic too, and some people would go "it's modernising it" no it's just shit.

If it's lIke FFXIII: Lightning Returns, then I'll only be cool with it if I REALLY like the protagonist. Noctis was such a snore.

Having a party was a really important aspect to me, but after playing Witcher 3 and to a lesser extent NieR:A, I don't mind either way as long as the execution is good.

Having said that, FFs have traditionally had a party, so a departure might bother other fans.

That should be Tabata's next IP, I doubt they will go that route with mainline FF games, unless there is something hinting at that?

Final Fantasy's marketing and merchandise is largely dependent on its world and characters so I can see this not happening especially in the wake of their more traditional stuff like Dragon Quest XI and Octopath Traveler being so successful. Maybe it'll be a spin-off or something.

I always enjoy FF games. I enjoyed 15 immensely and enjoyed 13 too even though it was panned. I trust Square to deliver the type of game that I like to play and that I enjoy.

no party of any kind implies a pretty lonely game, and provides an interesting base for narrative and role of rpg combat, so i would be into it

I expect this to be the case so my reaction is "meh".

FFXV already didn't have a playable party at launch so it's not like it's outlandish. How many big party based action RPGs can you name these days? The focus in on making action games and that works better with a single character and not messing with AI imo.

FFXV AI party really doesn't do anything, you don't have to rely on them for anything, they are just there for feels.

No.

I personally want XVI to go back a bit to a more linear world with a swappable party -- not XIII-linear but FFX at the most. No open world. None. And I want a modernized turn-based battle system.

I want a memorable party of men and women with a battle system influenced by XIII. Far less linear than XIII but no open world.

Who cares if the game is good. I'd like them to make a good game, and fan opinions don't always end up making for a good game.

Sure, I guess. It's weird to have expectations about a game that doesn't even exist in any public capacity. If the announcement trailer looks cool, I'll want to play it.

Was the title changed ? I think it said 'female' going by the previous replies.

As long as the story and gameplay are good, I don't care.
