2011 follows the manga closer, less violent no filler.

I watched both for the first time recently and I think 1999 is better until Greed Island. I'm glad I ended up watching 1999 without being fully aware there was a remake. If I watched 2011 first I probably wouldn't have trudged through it. 1999 starts off so much better for me. The darker/mysterious tone is a lot better, and the filler is exellent. So many great moments in that which aren't in the 2011 version. There are some moments in the 2011 version that it has over the 1999, but overall doesn't beat it out.

Now of course I'm just comparing what's there. The 1999 version stops after Greed Island so...

Obviously, the Ant arc is the best and not covered in 1999 though.

1999 is probably better until Phantom Troupe, which can be argued either way (I prefer the newer version's pacing and vibe)

It's funny hearing Woolie's original take, cause in a post Naruto and BHA world, I can totally see it turning off people who are already tired of the tropes it helped establish. 2011 HxH more or less just says "let's just get this over with" for better and worse.

Why would anyone go back to the 1999 one, the biggest problem with most shounen is pacing and the 2011 version cuts the BS making it an amazing show. Its probably the best classic style shounen ever made.
Also that animation is top-tier.

Nah, just look at something like the Chrollo vs Zoldyck fight. Animation aside, it's insanely flat, Chrollo isn't so dull.

2011's only real/biggest failing i'd say was getting rid of gon's interactions with kite in the beginning. For petes sake its legit the only reason gon even put it in his head to find ging.
