No, Your best option is to endure the random duos through matchmaking, playing solo puts you against other duos. And also the community is currently toxic AF when matchmaking, if you ain't prestiged they will quit.

But strangely enough its one of the best games available in early access if you can find a partner.
Considering picking this up. How have people been enjoying this? Fun playing solo?
Join the official discord and you'll find a partner. Also had no problems teaming up with randomes even though I have not prestiged.

The 2.1 patch is most likely coming to the live servers tomorrow. I really hope this game will have more attention when it releases because its amazing and they are doing an excellent job with the updates in the past months.

Such a shame crytek couldn't have waited until the first big performance patch before releasing into early access. They lost so much steam with the initial negative reactions to the poor framerate.

Took a lot of convincing (and an outright gift of the game in one case) to get interested friends to give it a shot recently.

It's improved so much since that initial look, hope more people give it a chance.

I expect a big marketing push once its out of EA. I've been wanting to play this game since it was initially revealed in 2014 or whenever.

Picked this up over the weekend.

Ton of fun and such a beautiful game as well, everything feels heavy and well animated, really surprised at how awssome it is.

I have been mainly skulking about the sides solo getting a feel for the game and just getting a few clues for cash and some kills for xp, not fought a boss yet.

Hope the player numbers keep up and look forward to seeing how this progresses.

Steam reviews are positive now and they are patching the game every 2-3 weeks. The next one is about to drop any day now. There are a tons of good stuff coming according to the roadmap.

One of my steam friends wrote a review for it and with not long having got an 1080 ti, I was in the mood for something to stress it out.

Manage 60fps nearly constantly at 1440p, it is a great looking game and night is genuinely scary.

Patch 2.1 is now live

DiPDmiKXkAAGeSZ.jpg:large

Hunters,

We have even more content for Hunt:Showdown as we go live with the release of Update 2.1, coming hot on the heels of the release of Update 2.

Now, let's talk about the all the wonderful additions we have for you today:

Version: v0.309
SteambuildID: 2939743
Client patch size: ~1.8 GB

Please find the detailed notes below:

Highlights
  • New stealth weapons:
    • 3 new crossbows - Old school crossbow, Hand crossbow and Poison crossbow.
    • Silenced weapons - The Sparks LRR and Winfield now have additional variants with mounted silencers.
    • Throwing knives – A new tool, allows for stealth kills even if you bring the big guns.
    • Specter 1882 Bayonet – A versatile pump-action shotgun variant that works great in close quarters.
    • Combat Axe – Similar to the Wood Axe World Item (except you cannot throw it). A cheap, medium sized weapon that packs a punch.
  • Vitality shot changes – Added new variants: weak and normal variants. Injecting a shot now takes longer.
  • Retrieving projectiles – Crossbow bolts and throwing knives can be retrieved from bodies and walls to be used again.
  • Fog time of day – A new fog setting that shows off the swamps of Louisiana in all its foggy glory.
  • Spectator mode – The ability to continue watching the action through your teammates eyes after being downed/incapacitated or the death of your own Hunter.
While spectating your partner, a message will be displayed in cases where your body is burning and after being burned to indicate you are dead

New equipment

With this update we are adding a number of additional weapons and equipment to aid Hunters in stealthy game play. This will be great for solo players, who now have more options available to them, if they choose to remain in the shadows. For teams, it is also much easier now to come up with combos that compliment your loadout, adding a silent option for those times when being loud is just not an option.
  • Crossbow – Large weapon that can kill a player with a well aimed hit from a single bolt. Cannot resupply from ammo boxes, but bolts can be retrieved.
  • Hand Crossbow – Medium weapon that is a great companion as a sidearm. Works the same as its larger cousin.
  • Poison Hand Crossbow – Uses poison-tipped bolts that burst on impact. Very powerful against most monsters and can distort the view of other Hunters.
  • Sparks LRR Silencer – Large weapon with an attached Silencer and reduced damage. Stronger sway makes for harder aiming, similar to the effect of the bayonet attachment.
  • Winfield M1873 C Silencer – Same as the Sparks LRR Silencer, but has more ammunition and fires the weaker Compact Bullets at reduced damage.
  • Throwing Knives – Pack of six throwing knives that can be used at short range and retrieved after use (watch where you throw them).
  • Specter 1882 Bayonet – Variant of the first-ever pump-action shotgun that comes with an attached bayonet for improved handling in melee combat.
  • Combat Axe – New early game melee weapon that occupies a Medium Slot. Very cheap, but a powerful option for new Hunters.
  • Weak Vitality Shot – Little brother to the Vitality Shot that heals 50 health, costs much less than the standard Vitality Shot.

New traits
  • Bolt Seer Trait – Highlights Bolts and Throwing Knives for better visibility.
  • Bolt Thrower Trait - Reduces the time to reload Crossbows.

Fog

With this update we are introducing a new setting – Fog time of day. This setting challenges players with reduced visibility while facing the dangers of the swamp.

Freeze/stalls

  • With this update, we are introducing a potential fix to the 3-5 second freezes/stalls issues that has been occurring for some of you

Developer Note: If you are still encountering these issues, please let us know on the Steam forums or via the Official Hunt Discord.

General updates

AI

  • Meathead and The Butcher
    • Improvements made to prevent instances where the AI would become unresponsive.

Audio
  • Improved consistency of bullet impacts and ricochets.
  • Improvements made to the audio of the new silenced weapons.
  • Improvements made to the audio of the Dark Sight Boost transition
  • Improved consistency of indoor and outdoor gunfire.
  • Improved water footstep sounds.
  • Improvements made to audio occlusion to reduce the sound bleeding through the terrain of underground areas.

Developer note: We are aware that there are other instances of the sound bleeding through certain areas. We will continue our investigations and make improvements to these areas with each update.

Gunplay
  • Improvements made to the responsiveness of hit registration.
  • Improvements made to the hit validation system to reduce the number of false negatives. We will continue to monitor and tweak these to improve overall hit registration
  • Improvements made to the reliability of throwing axes and hammers with the Tomahawk trait
  • Improvements made to the melee hit detection for the following:
    • Dolch Precision
    • Romero Handcannon
  • Improvements made to the Cavalry Saber animations.
  • Improvements made to the Knife animations.
  • Flare Pistol shell speed increased from 50 to 75 meter per second.
  • Changes made to the functionality of the Antidote Shots after use:
    • Prevents further poison effects from reapplying while active.
    • Prevents damage from poison clouds.
    • Reduces the damage of Hive swarms, Spider pounce and the Poison hand Crossbow.
  • Thrown Wood Axes and Sledgehammers fly slower and lose damage faster.
  • Improvements made to the Wood Axe to make the follow-up melee attacks more reliable.
  • Derringer reload now consumes all remaining loaded bullets and will always insert 4 fresh rounds.
  • Basic single-action revolvers can now fan slightly faster than the heavier Uppercut and Chain pistol variants.
  • Improvements made to the occlusion behavior of explosions particularly relating to how they wrap around corners .
  • To distinguish between the weak and standard Vitality shots, the standard syringe now is a bronze color.
  • Increased the animation length of injecting shots from 3 to 5 seconds.
  • Reduced the damage of the Nitro express in relation to leg shots.
  • Reduced the damage of compact bullets in relation to the lower torso and arm/leg shots.
  • Projectiles now have the correct mass value attached (this will make impacts with physical objects more believable).

Developer note: We are continuously observing the performance and usage of the weapons and equipment across the game and will make adjustments where needed. With this update, we took a closer look at the 3 most used items in our arsenal; the Winfield rifles, the Dolch pistol and the Vitality shot.

The Winfield: These rifles have received another round of tweaks and tuning. We want to keep the two-hit kill capability but now have reduced the damage to limbs as well as the lower torso to increase the average number of hit to kill while rapidly firing. Hitting the upper chest and head will still be the best way to bring down your target. Being such an all-rounder, the Winfield is a hard weapon to balance, one we are sure we are not done with yet. Let us know what you think!

The Dolch: An impressive handgun, using one of the most powerful cartridges of the era, and a revolutionary new semi-automatic fire mode. We want to reflect this in game; however we also have to acknowledge the problems this has for balancing, especially against other weapons. This update will see a reduction in the extra ammunition carried meaning every shot counts that little bit more. Those that blast their way through the medium bullets will find themselves running out of ammo relatively quickly, but with careful use, it remains one of the best handguns in the game.

The Vitality Shot: The most used consumable in the game by far. This is great on one hand, but also means that it dominates the consumables category and removes a lot of variety. Many would rather bring a vitality shot than a more tactical option. This update sees an increase to the price as well as an increase to the use timer (5 seconds for the shot to take effect instead of 3), bringing the shots more in line with the First Aid kit. We have also introduced another variation; the Weak Vitality shot, which will heal 50 health. Players can now choose between the more affordable weak variant, or spend the extra money for the standard shot. Bringing multiples of the vitality shot will now be an investment so we hope that players might consider bringing some other consumables alongside

Hunters
  • Lowered the stamina consumption rate while running. Hunters should now be able to sprint for longer distances.
  • All recruits are now equipped with the Weak Vitality Shot instead of the standard Vitality Shot.
  • Lowered the Dark Sight boost timer from 15 seconds to 10 seconds.

Developer note:The Dark sight Boost receives another round of tuning with this update and has had its duration cut by 5 seconds. It has been great to see how everyone is adapting to this new feature and so far we have observed and increase in fighting during the banishing phase with players on the inside trying to barricade and defend the area, while other teams try to force their way in before the bounty can be picked up. This reminds us a lot of last year's E3 reveal and it is great to see!

We want the Dark Sight Boost to give players going for the bounty a fighting chance. It's a reward that empowers those that take the risk of fighting the boss, but it should not be an option that allows those to dominate and hunt the remaining players once it has been collected. We are certain there will be more adjustments to Dark Sight over time. We want to ensure that it remains an empowering and game changing addition while still maintaining the overall balance.

It seems like Crytek is doing a good job supporting this. I'm upgrading my PC this week and hoping that it will run Hunt sufficiently. I'm also wondering if theyll do a console version.
I believe its planned, but I am pretty sure they want to be out of early access first.

Played a few games this morning, I dig it.

Love the minimal HUD and atmosphere. I feel like I kinda understand the flow of the game more now. Even managed to win a match with a stranger!

Question: after destroying the Spider and collecting the bounty, a number with a red/orange outline appeared in the bottom left of the screen. What does that number indicate?

Is this game fun solo?
It's fun, but it's quite a bit harder on your own. There currently isn't a solo only queue, so you'll be up against some mix of other duos and other solo players. No chance at being revived, no partner to provide a distraction when you move to flank, etc. Getting that first quick kill on a duo to even the odds becomes incredibly important. But it's doable, just requires a bit of a different mindset.

The number is how many seconds of darksight boost you have left. When boosted and using darksight, your hands will glow orange, and other players within a 150m radius (about the size of a compound) will glow orange, similar to a wallhack. The fidelity of their glow depends on them moving around. If they are standing still it's pretty spot on, but as you move the glow stretches and becomes a rougher approximation of where they are. It's intended to give bounty carriers a better chance at escaping a boss room / compound when other teams are camping outside, and to encourage boss killing in general. The timer ticks down as you use the boost. In the case of maps with two bosses, picking up a second bounty will reset your darksight boost back to 10 seconds.

Early on before the boost was implemented there was a problem where the meta was to not kill the boss, and instead camp outside the boss compound waiting for someone else to kill it so you could get an easy steal by camping boss room exits. You'd get lots of stalemate games where few people if any were willing to actually move in. The boost, combined with cash bonuses for engaging and killing the boss yourself, has dramatically reduced this and made games more lively. It still happens sometimes, but not nearly with the same frequency. All in all, a good change.

Great, thanks!

Now that I think about it, I don't think in any of the games I played I encountered other teams. Is it the case where if my teammate and myself were the only two people who spawned on a map, we'd have no way of knowing?

If so, that's kinda cool. I appreciate the way the game is stingy with information.

Yeah, no way of knowing how many people are left aside from keeping track of your own kills, kills you've heard / witnessed, and watching for the messages when players extract with bounties. Max of 10 players, including yourself, for reference.

If you and your partner are still under bloodline 20, you're in a separate queue with only other low BL players. Given the lower population in this queue, and the fact that new players are more likely to die early to ai, it can feel like games are empty.

That will all change once you hit the general queue and start playing with the experienced hunters. I've never been in an empty game in the full queue. Even when I've thought it may be empty, I'll inevitably hear a gunshot and know I'm not alone.

The menu music in this game is perfect. Extremely simple, incredibly catchy, and suits the vibe of the game so well

It's been in my head constantly for the past couple days

Good way to get used to it is just go in solo.

Kills some monsters, be quite stealthy, go and find a clue or two and head to one of the extraction points so that you gain experience and and some money.

I did that for about 5 hours or so until I felt I had the controls down and the general idea, then done some randoms with people and it always worked out quite well.

Add me on Steam dsk1210 and I should be on next weekend if you are about.

4.0 is out. Quickplay is really fun but the game still runs like hot garbage. Too bad this game doesnt get the attention it deserves. They constantly putting out updates and content. 3rd boss to arrive next month too. They need to shift focus to the optimization tho.

Yes it's hit or miss. I get 100~ FPS on a 1080ti/8700k but know people that get far less on similar rigs.

Dx12 and Vulcan are being worked on as well.

I get like 40-60 on a 1060GTX but the FPS is not consistent at all. It chugs really often down to 30 . Its really distracting.

I have been getting a solid 60fps at 1440p with my 1080ti, it is quite a heavy game on the GPU but that was always going to be the case with cryengine.

People would play it more if it didn't run like poop and had more players. 2 person coop is pretty low and 3-4 man squad is what's usually popular.

I recently upgraded my pc so Hunt doesn't run terribly for me any more, and as a result I've been playing a tonne of it. Fuck me if it isn't the perfect distillation of everything that makes BR good. So many ridiculously tense moments and nail biting shoot-outs. I even don't mind the scoped rifles which I thought were going to fuck up the feel of the game: they create such tunnel vision when you use them that you can play around a scoped player pretty easily.

Got my first gauntlet run yesterday and it was insanely tense the whole time.

They'll be obliged to, IMO, because they're releasing an Xbox One version and they can't really afford to screw up. Performance has been improving with each update, but the most recent update has caused some severe regressions in some cases. The roadmap is worth reading, IMO. Stuff like controller support seems like pretty important prelim for the console version.

Topic kinda dead but the performance patch just went live on the test server. I getting amazing results. I have like 45 fps on the live server at high settings with constant drops and stuttering while running to sub 30 fps. On the test server? Everything on high. CONSTANT 50-60 fps without the annoying drops and freezes. Amazing job i must say

I honestly think this is the biggest obstacle to the game blowing up. If they can get it running well it's poised to do really well. Once they get performance solid they should do a free weekend and a sale, and I guarantee there'll be a big uptick in sales.

The 6.0 update had really rekindled my interest in this game. New boss, and reworking existing bosses so they're genuinely scary, not to mention really cool new items like the alert tripwire. It's really becoming a super cool game.

Trying to convince my buddy to get it, but he isn't willing to spend $30 on it in early access. Wish I had caught it with that humble bundle.

This is currently having a free weekend on Steam, and a 20% off sale. The game's in a really good place at the moment, highly recommend it.

And sold. I had a ton of fun with this when I played half a year ago. I imagine there have been some good updates since then.

Now that I have a decent PC and two friends who play this, I'm jumping in on this free weekend! Looks very atmospheric, and I haven't had a good multiplayer game since Left 4 Dead 2- Dayz, Rust, BR games aren't my jam.

Just as a warning, you can only play in duos, and it's probably closer to DayZ than L4D in how it plays. Although it's not really like either.
