Wow, going in for five years on this one. Interesting.

I'm amazed that SiriusXM still has the money for this. I would have thought someone like Spotify or Audible would be pouring money on Howard Stern.

Five years? Wow. I thought he was close to retiring. Are they still doing the show from home? Last time I listened the audio was awful

Great news! Stern is still a lot of fun to listen to and I really enjoy his interviews.

Those were test shows. They've installed studio equipment into Howard's home and other locations. No difference in quality now except for when interviews are conducted over zoom, etc. (the standard issues).

5 more years??

wow I thought for sure he was retiring this time. The entire show just seems so...dull lately. It just feels like celebrity interview central.

Crazy Howard still going but alot of his peers are just gone. Advantage of making your mark on the genre I guess.

I had no idea Sirius was still a thing. They still sell satellite receivers? I haven't listened to Stern since he left regular radio I don't know how many years ago.

Yes. He works 3 days a week and will regularly take off 2 weeks of vacation. This was part of the negotiations he had with Sirius to make him stay a while ago.
Ultimately, you listen to someone like Howard to help the commute to work go by faster. If he isn't on live, there are alternatives such as podcasts.

Yeah I haven't found a show that scratches that itch like this show does. But I do end up skipping a lot. How many times can I hear Billy Corgan be interviewed? I just want to hear Howard and Robin talk politics, the news and hear about how Ronnie the Limo Driver's sex tips.

SiriusXM just recently fired Jason Ellis and were constantly talking about how they don't have the money for things during the Opie and Anthony days. How are they paying Howard 120 million PER YEAR reportedly?

because people aren't signing up to listen to Jason Ellis. Howard's name recognition drives subscriptions.

What's the proof that he drives subscriptions because they never release numbers. I'd say people purchasing cars drives more new subs than Howard does and we have no clue how many people are subbed only/mostly for Howard.

Its an obscene amount of money for a company that refuses to pay people to provide content for their platform. They tried to pay Joe Rogan and Bill Burr peanuts for their podcasts back in the day.

It was pretty much a given once he started doing the show from home.

What's the proof that he drives subscriptions because they never release numbers. I'd say people purchasing cars drives more new subs than Howard does and we have no clue how many people are subbed only/mostly for Howard.

Do you honestly think Sirius just gave him $120 million a year without having proof that he drives subs?

Well I'm sure they have the analytics that make signing Howard worth it. How much proof do you need? If they are willing to pay him, it's worth it to them.

These aren't Opie & Anthony days? Also if you fire Jason Ellis, wouldn't that free up money for Howard?

But is it because he actually drives listeners or because of his name/their plan? Jim and Sam are the second most listened to non-music program on the platform behind Howard and I guarantee you their contract isn't a tenth of Howard's.

The company as a whole is suffering from their decisions because eventually Howard WILL walk away and they'll have alienated potential employees at that point or start over paying people to fill the gap.

Its very much how the WWE did things and their ratings a hitting record lows several times a year because they didn't have an actual star after Cena left.

These aren't Opie & Anthony days? Also if you fire Jason Ellis, wouldn't that free up money for Howard?

Isn't it? Howard is still being paid obscene money (this is technically a pay cut based on his biggest contract) while other people are being fired or let go for money reasons.

The only thing I'm saying is pay other people.

Agreed. I think he still enjoys it and what else is he going to do sit around?

Howard hates his job. Its just an ego boost for him which he desperately needs. His team pretty much provides the content, all he has to do is talk. Thanks to covid Howard will probably be working from home full time in his Florida mansion rather than having to live in New York and get to work at 5am which he also hated. Howard does care about his team though. He won't admit it, but he does. He is also getting more fame from interviewing A list celebs now rather than C and D listers back when he was featuring strippers and pornstars.

Everything I've seen of Howard he seems like a sleezy asshole and a really detestable person.

Am I wrong?

Not sure who is audience is tbh but I'm certainly not it.

You still have to sign up if you buy a car. I've bought two cars since 2016 and used my 1 month trial both times and then declined to pay XM anything.

XM just seems like the "older people" streaming service to me. My dad likes it and pays for it. My wife's parents did as well until we got them onto Spotify.

People who wonder how Sirius keeps going but I just look at my family.. my parents, my wife's parents and my grandparents all have multiple cars that they all pay for it on and hardly use it. Seems including it as an option at least works for my family. I am fairly sure my grandparents believe they need to keep paying in order to get any sort of radio. Kinda like AOL still being a thing.

I would love to listen to Howard from time to time but I do not want to pay full price. Is there away to pay for a package just for his channel? How do you all listen to him?

I'd imagine we're never seeing them in studio again, or only on rare occasions.

Has Sirius been around that long?

Officially launched in 2002. I bought a lifetime sub to listen to Howard in 2005, I think for $400? Honestly one of the best decisions I've made, because While I stopped listening to Howard around 10 years ago after Artie left and he started only doing shows 3 days a week, I still listen to their music channels almost daily.

I think Ellis got let go cause he wasn't doing what they thought he was going to do or that they expected him to get bigger than what he plateau'd at. I mean I found out he was fired yesterday.

Is the company suffering? SiriusXM just bought Pandora and Stitcher.
