I would be disappointed. That's such a powerful moment in the original that giving an option to avoid it would be a mistake. That I guess maybe it depends on how important they think Advent Children is. If the answer is VERY important then I think her fate is sealed.

I would want the game to go through normal fate. But as others have said, I want the most ela orate endgame and/or new game+ trading/side quest that changes everything.

I literally want it to be like the old triforce is real fake quests in ocarina of Time

No, the reason the story was good was because of the impact of scenes like these. However, it would be cool as a difficult post game easter egg or quest.

They'll let you save her... but at the end scene she trips over her shoe laces, falls down some stairs and breaks her neck. Can't beat fate.

I don't that's what FF VII is about, Cloud's will and choices have been compromied by Jenova, he almost kills Aeris himself and later gives Sephiroth the black materia. Part of the tradegy is how helpless and lacking control Cloud and the player feels.

Yeah, I played the game back in 1998, but I'd welcome some changes to the story. It could be tragic even if it went differently.

People talking about killing Tifa instead? lol that would be terrible for me.

Might as well give me the option to kill Cloud then. So I could have the dream party of Tifa, Aerith and Yuffie.

Don't call it a FF VII remake then if you're gonna do that. Would really sour me on the game.

I love it and it will be remake worthy if this is create brand new what if story and new timeline to explore, lead to multiple ending.

You shouldn't need shit suprises that don't respect the original themes, to make the game fun.

Those crude chibi models and no voice acting didn't realise the full potential of the original vision (and some of those mini games are really clumsy) Exploring more of Midgar's sectors could be exciting too.

Let the creators do what they wish. The "original themes" argument is garbage. If they want to change it, let them change it.

I've really liked the character since the first time I played the game.

As others have said, her death is a meaningful one but I wouldn't mind to have a chance to save her.

The reason why the death works is because it's not just a character death. It's not just a shock. Knowing beforehand doesn't even spoil it. FFVII uses the previously established lore to give the death a role. Characters talk about it after the fact. They find a special "key" to figure out what she was trying to do.

It would be weird and would require a complete reworking of the entire story, but I don't mind. She is one of my least favorite characters in that game anyway.

I think they could do it for New Game+, maybe after you get passed her death you get an item that if you had at the time would have allowed you to save her so in New Game+ when you get back there you can use it.

Would be cool to see what adjustments they would make to the story after that point in New Game+

As an outsider, I don't think it could possibly have an impact on the player nowadays, the same way I watched the Star Wars trilogy a couple years ago and went "eh." after how much it was referenced over the years.

At the very least I'd look forward to the character development for the others since I don't know about that. In my particular case, I'd be fine with a secret what if/optional scenario for a new game plus.

Hopefully this is not changed. It's an iconic moment and pretty integral to the party's motivation through the rest of the story.

Killing Cloud is fun to think about as an alternate timeline. I say that as a Cloud fan.

Doubt they'd allow it though.

People need to stop trying to make this a thing. It's not like she dies and is forgotten. She pretty much dies on purpose because it allows her to take control of the Lifestream and become a god. Plus the person she loves is dead, too, so she gets to be with him.

I wouldn't mind but no way they will make it an option. That would require far too much work. I doubt Yuffie and Vincent are going to be optional too.

Modern FF games have not had a single major death that mattered.

latest being in FFXV spoilers

Noctis dies then immediately in the next scene his death is diluted abd robbed of any impact when he is shown to be happily married in heaven. No mystery,no real loss occurs.

X,XII,XIII didnot stick to any major deaths either.

Aerith is definitely coming back or her fate will definitely be cheapened in one way or another. Modern SE doesnot understand tragedy.

I won't lie...
I'd love this option.
Then have a "lets find another way" type scenario for an ending. I want her to live.
Back in 1999, an Official PlayStation magazine I read said there was a way to bring her back, it was planned but the devs didn't have time to finish and put it in the game. Not sure if that's true.. but I've wanted the option since then.

If I was the director I would save her in that moment but then kill her off 2 hours later in a new scene. Trolled.

Or make that 10 hours. So you would feel the pain of losing her grinded levels all over again.

I would riot in the streets by myself.

Just kidding but I probably wouldn't buy it. It would be a clear indicator that the creative directors have no clue what actually made FFVII good.

It was the most powerful moment in the game, why change that? If anything just try to make Sephiroth a better villain. Make him more brutal.

Err spoilers? The thread title is a big hint to what happens.

Back then, playing it as a kid, that moment was a huge shock and motivator to beat Sephiroth. Any respect or awe I had left for him went out the window. I'd like to think any new players would have a similar effect, especially considering you get even more time to grow attached to her (that Gold Saucer date is gonna be something in the Remake...)

Anyway, I think adding it as a non-canon 'thing' in a NG+ run would be good for novelty or even replay value, but I'd personally be disappointed if they allowed you to change her fate outright.

I think it would be cool as a non-canon New Game+ bonus. IMO Aerith's death is too impactful to the story for it to be officially altered.

I'd definitely like to have her stick around as a party member, because I like white mage characters. Of course, seeing her have all new interaction with the other characters would be interesting too.

Midgar, With Love
I'm not comfortable spoiling for others the revelation that Aerith lies to a shopkeeper about Cloud's desire to crossdress.
