Feel free to post a broad age range instead if that's more comfortable for you. And needless to say, if you've never played a Final Fantasy game (or you are ageless, I guess) the question doesn't apply to you.

I turned 32 on Wednesday. I'm not yet fully accepting this reality but for the purposes of this survey I will go ahead and admit the dark truth. Final Fantasy VII was my first exposure to the franchise; I was 10 when it came out and 11 when I first played it.

I played some of Final Fantasy VII at my cousin's house a long time ago. I must have been... 10? 11? Somewhere around there. I cleared the Bombing Mission and that was it. I also played a tiny bit of the opening of FF6. My cousin was an FF fan, lol.

My first proper experience was Final Fantasy IX. I had just turned 18 and summer was ending. It was the last game I played before shipping off to college, and somehow it felt very fitting in that regard. I was hooked and played it nonstop over the course of two weeks. It's still one of my all time favorite games.

...I later revisited FF7 and found myself slightly preferring it though, lol.

EDIT: When I was 11 I also watched my friend play Final Fantasy X, basically the whole game, but I myself didn't play it then.

Oh, and uh, I'm 28 now.

Recently turned 31, the first one I played was Final Fantasy X. I was 11/12? Somewhere in that range. I tried renting FFVII several times at blockbuster, but it was never in stock, because someone decided to just keep it at that point.

I WAS THERE AT THE BEGINNING

I am an old. I was a young old at the time, though. Too young old to even understand the text in-game.

I played FFI when it was brand new, because I'm old

I did not understand RPGs yet, so I hated it

(I still hate it)

Hmmm, the first FF I played......I can't say I remember. It was definitely one of the PS titles though as I do remember those being my introduction to the series.
I'm going to say that 8 was the first one I played though, since I do remember 9 coming out when I had 7 and 8 on the shelf. 9 was the first FF I beat though (As I had used gameshark to do so). After that I tried to beat FF8 the same way, but the only code that worked was max level Squall. So when the game got to a part where you separate I had just made an unbeatable save. To this day I still haven't beaten FF8.

I'm pretty sure FF7 was the first I beat though and this was WELL after the fact of it's release. We're talking Late PS2-era, hell I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 had recently come out. Which is a large reason why i'll always hold that game in high regards. Being that late to the party on what's considered an all-time classic and still feeling the weight of how good it is, is something not many classic titles do for me when I get around to them.

After that, I've made an attempt to play all of the mainline. So far I have completed

FF1
FF2
FF3
FF6
FF7
FF10
FF10-2
FF13
FF13-2
FF15

Just need to get
FF4
FF5
FF8
FF9
FF12
FF13:LR

Out of the way to be all caught up. I do own them all in various forms though.

Also i'm 12

35... first FF game was VII at launch when I was in middle school. Pure magic. Wish I could say FF was this like enduring cornerstone in my life the way other older people have certain brands of things that "grew up" with them but FF has just been rough. Hoping VIIR can turn my feelings around.

I'm 33. First FF game I touched was FF1. First I properly played was FF6/'Murica 3. Both way back in the day.

FFVI is still my favorite in the series, and one of my top 5 games of all time.

I'd generally rank the mainline series that I've played like this:

FFVI
FFVIII
FFVII
FFX
FFXV
FFV
FFIII
FFIX
FFXIII
FFXII
FFI

I know that ranking IX and XII so low is an outrageous violation against the order of the universe, but it's just how I feel :P

I was around 13 or 14 and my first Final Fantasy game was Final Fantasy IV, which was a part of Chrono Trigger in a bundle for PS1. Both of these games introduced me to the world of JRPGs.

I later played VI, VII, VIII, and IX. I didn't manage to play V, I, II, and III. Final Fantasy X was a big reason why I bought a PS2 and I absolutely loved it.

If I had to list my top 5 in no particular order

Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy IX

I am an ancient that hails from time immemorial... and I was on board the Final Fantasy train right from the beginning way back in the summer of 1990.

I received this hallowed bible with my monthly subscription to Nintendo Power...

I was enthralled by the possibilities it promised... a game with such ambition and scale with dungeons to conquer and crystals to collect.

I proceeded to spend two weeks of that summer ignoring the gorgeous weather outside and instead hunched in front of the television as my Fighter / Monk / Black Mage / White Mage starting team (that I named after other kids I knew) embarked upon a timeless adventure that I shall never forget.

I'm 33. I believe I played 1 as a kid renting it from Blockbuster tho I may be mixing up that memory with dragon warrior. Watching playthroughs of both give me the same nostalgic feeling so maybe actually it was both.

As like, a somewhat sentient human tho (I have trouble recalling childhood memories), I was in middle or high school and played ff7 at a friends house, watched him play almost the whole thing too. Still never beat that game, always get up to sephiroth at the end and then don't feel like grinding cuz I've seen the ending and quit. Doing a play through now on switch and will probably end up doing the same thing.

Then I played ff6 on an emulator after that. I don't believe I bothered playing any other previous ones tho.

Dude. I owned like every Nintendo Power strategy guide. I would read them like bibles even for games I never owned.

I'd still have them too but my parents basement flooded like 15 years ago.

I just turned 28 days ago and my first was Final Fantasy III (VI) on SNES that I played at a friend's place. It was his older brother's cartridge and I couldn't have been more than 6 at the time. My first FF proper, I guess, was Final Fantasy Tactics when I was 10/11.

I'm 35 and the first one I played was FF VIII. It was not a day one purchase so it was probably around year 2000. I've screwed up my save and I'm still stuck at a though battle at the end of disc 3 to this day!

Before that if, it counts, I've played FF Adventure in 94/95 on the Game Boy, never managed to finished it either. I have trouble to get back to it these days as I find most of the musics very stressful and it makes me feel uncomfortable when I play it.

45.

Final Fantasy VII in 1997. Saw the ads and needed to get a Playstation, even though I had planned on an N64.

Since then I have beat VII, VIII, X, IV, VI. Playing through X again on Vita.

I'm 41 and the first FF I have ever played was The Final Fantasy Legend on the good old Gameboy, followed by FF Legend II. Later I played FF II and the unforgettable FF III on the SNES (US import on my modded EU SNES). Those were the days, haha!

24 who's first FF was VIII. I think I was around like 9 or 10 and it was also the first PS1 game I played.
Really loved it to the point I probably played through it multiple times (triple triad was just too good.)

I was about 11 and had played the yearly Pokémon franchise installment to death. I was visiting my grandma with my family so without a game I was bored out of my mind most of the trip. We decided to go to Walmart to pick up some general stuff for my grandma to have around the house and Mom told me to go pick out a game. I was a little shy so she asked the Walmart game associate a recommendation for a kid who "liked Pokémon but needed something else""—recommended me FF3 or Magical Starsign for the DS, but he ended up sticking to FF3.

Had a ton of fun playing it—was my first JRPG and got me into the genre, which is by far my favorite genre now. I didn't play another FF (beyond doing some sections of ff13 for a friend) until I played FF14 around...20? Next FF I played at like 22 a year or so after I quit 14 haha but since then I've played a lot (3,4,5,6,7,9,10,12,15,tactics) ! It's been my grad school video game project

32, and VII was my first FF game. It was also only the 2nd JRPG I ever played, the first being Super Mario RPG on SNES. VII really made me a fan of the genre.

I'm in my 30s.
The first FF I played was 7, because that was the first to release in Europe.
Despite that, I have no love for it. :P

I think I was in my teens when I tried VII for the first time and then I was 21-22 when I played 4 Heroes Of Light but the first mainline game I played and finished was X last year.

VII was the first we got in Europe and was also the first RPG I ever played. It set the bar way too high.
Played at around 14/15, mid-30's now.

Late thirties, FFIV on my cousins American snes. Knowing him it would have been close to US release date.

Few years later I bought Mystic Quest Legend (Final Fantasy USA) for my own, which I actually enjoyed more lol
