Locked in or not, I'm sure they're aiming for 499.

I think the One X was also kind of a test of that price point. I think MS might have aimed to release at that price point while Sony was going for 399 earlier on, but I think Sony realized that would put them in a bad position on power, so I think they both are targetting 499 and aiming to deliver as much power as they can for that price point, basically.

It's designed by the guy that made the Surface... thing may burn a hole in the wallet, I say $549 and marketed as "PREMIUM"

I'll be $599 for the Series X and $299 for Lockheart. Microsoft will market the "next generation Xbox experience" starting at $299. Sony will be stuck with no cheaper next gen offering and be selling an underpowered, more expensive, next gen PS5 for $499.

That way Microsoft can claim the crown for 1) Cheapest next gen experience 2) Most powerful next gen experience.

the RTX 2080 super is about 11TF and launched at $700 half a year ago. by the time xbox series x at 12TF launches that card will be ~18 months old but if microsoft sells at $500 that's a pretty nutty value proposition

ÂŁ400-500 i'd guess.

same for the PS5.

<ÂŁ600 is my limit to buy it ASAP. if it's more than that i'll probably wait until well into 2021.

Is 12 TF just the house? Would the figure include the cpu?

This sounds about right. Classic Apple tactics.

And it works as well.

This thing looks like it's going to be a beast so $499. Early adopters are always the enthusiasts so you'll probably get a more affordable box (i.e. Lockhart) not too far down the line.

87% of the 1,400 polled so far believe the console will be $499-$599, so that's a pretty clear expectation for the price point of next-gen consoles. Glad to see there's so few crazies believing it'll be $399.

At least $500. Curious to see if PS5 would find success with a hypothetical lower price point/power.

499, if they go higher it's dead land. People are still remembering the PS3 blunder and the infamous 599USDOLLARS.

It's not 2006 anymore. A $600 console in 2020 is the equivalent of a ~$470 console in 2006. It's not unreasonable.

The overwhelming majority wants the price to be no more than 500 and you will be disappointed.

The specs are too high to really make a profit at 500.

With the rumored specs of the 1080p series S I see it being priced at 300 usd.

To take the sting out of the price of series X at 600 usd they will bundle a free year of xbox live, maybe even ultimate.

499 is definitely the baseline and I wouldn't be surprised if it was more expensive. Shit looks massive.

No way, I don't think sony will price theirs over 499 and since it's rumored to have similar specs that means xbox will do the same thing. I can't see happening unless sony really is making a less powerful 500 dollars system (unlikely)

It will be free you just have to sign a lifetime subscription contract with Gamepass for the rest of your life.

499 seems to be about right for what they are expecting to push into the system, tech wise.

I voted for 599,-... Still think they will come up with a "digital-only" version soon too that will offer a better pricetag of 499,-. Would also make me go for the 499,- then, probably even a straight pre-order. I went full digital a year ago on every console, never looked back.

You joke but it'd be nice to see this as an option, especially since all Xbox One controllers/accessories will be compatible. Might be too much of a pain to have so many SKUs though.

Honestly I *could* see it happening too just because the new controller isn't drastically different and like you said, Xbone peripherals work with it. I would totally buy it without a new controller at a discount lol.

I am curious as to why some people are thinking Microsoft will charge $599 whereas Sony will charge $499. If they are within spitting distance, spec wise, I don't see Microsoft charging an extra $100. They will match Sony no matter what.
