None. I got them all legit because I was looking for excuses to keep playing the game. Even went further than trophies by getting 100% of the data logs and endings...

...twice. I really like Nier Automata.

The idea someone would skip through this amazing game just for achievements hurts me deeply.

and ya you probably would, can just reload to get your money back.
But you wouldn't have any money to begin with right? Since you skip straight to the end from the first chapter. I remember the trophy shop bring somewhat expensive.

I've finished on PlayStation. Was thinking of trying a quick achievement run on Xbox just out of curiosity. I'll give it a go anyways.

None. Don't necessarily have anything against buying trophies, I just forgot about the store and never bothered to go back for it.

Bought them all after beating the game. Thought gameplay and story went majorly downhill after route B so didn't care much for mopping up a few dozen hours of content after finishing the game. Was very grateful for the option.

0. I was even insane enough to fish for the Swordfish, Coelacanth, and whatever the desert Hercules beetle fish was called.

Recently finished it in the past month thanks to Gamepass and I think I'm probably gonna have to buy most of what's left.

I don't think I'm gonna be able to get all of them though cause no matter what I do, I can't seem to get past the mini game at the end to unlock ending E. 😔

It just errors out every damn time I accept the help I'm offered.
Hm weird is this on PC?

In spirit, one; the trophy to upgrade pods. I was short one final upgrade and spent three hours grinding that one dinosaur robot in the forest to get a part, and that was as much time as I was willing to waste.

Technically, two. I legitimately got all the weapons, but after getting the last one (Emil heads) I had a crash that occurred at a specific point that left me with the weapons in my inventory and with the fight completed, but without the weapons counting toward the total, so I had to buy the trophy to get around the glitch.

I had no idea about this. Games are so big nowadays, that I'm never surprised to hear I missed out on something. Honestly, the older I get, the more tired I am of achievements. They make me anxious about the game I'm playing. I just want to have my fun with a game, and be able to let go when I'm ready. 😓 This is really cool of the Nier Automata devs, though. Reminds me of Undertale's PS4 release.

I didn't even know you could buy them until 1-2 years after I beat it, at which point going back at all felt like more effort than it was worth just for the sake of completion.

It's a great feature though.

I don't remember, I did all the routes and went for as many trophies as possible the good old fashioned way. I think I ended up buying 3 or 4 trophies that I wouldn't have fun getting otherwise.

None. And I got them twice since copies in Brazil came all fucked up not letting us update day one, and I was too much in a hurry to play the game. Got all trophies except for true ending cause I needed to be updated and online for that, then got a new copy and played through all of it again with the day one update 100% and platinum.

Maybe 25%? Don't forget you can back up your save to PSN or a usb stick and get all your money back. Buy more trophies and rinse and repeat until you have them all.

But in this case it's a mere formality; as much of an accomplishment as photoshopping and printing a college diploma.

There's really nothing anyone's achieving by, for example, playing with 9S for an hour with his plants blown off, if you hadn't managed to do that incidentally.

Some other achievements reflect unique in-game experiences, like collecting all of the weapons or upgrading them to read the weapon stories, but others are just arbitrary numbers (riding around an animal for 5 miles, exploding 50 remote controlled robots, etc.)

Achievements should reflect and encourage users to participate in game activities that they otherwise may miss or avoid, but to do a thing at length or repetitively doesn't really say anything other than you had some free time.

The only trophy I'm missing from FFXV is maxing Noctis's fishing level. Do I have hours to mindlessly grind that absolutely boring mini game? no, so the platinum stays locked. And that level doesn't actually do anything for you outside of helping you unlock the next fishing level. It has zero impact on anything else in the game.

Didn't realize you could do this.

I love Taro's sense of humor.

(also now I can finally snag a platinum .____. ain't gonna ever hit that 40,075Km traveled in Skater XL)

Everything that was left after maxing out my level and beating the secret boss. I feel like Yoko Taro understands the kind of lazy bastard I am and I wouldn't want to waste his gift to slackers like me.

I think I had to buy the trophy for getting all the endings, anyways. I panicked when Emil tried to blow himself up and killed him myself, but I didn't realize I wouldn't get the ending if I did that and missed it.

It's almost as if achievements are arbitrary and meaningless goals, and completionism for its own sake was illogical at best, and unhealthy at worst. I'm fine with P* leaving a way out for people to scratch that mental itch in their own game without subjecting themselves to torture. I just think the utter meaninglessness of it all once the actual "achieving" part of achievements is removed should perhaps prompt some self-reflecting on completionism and the compulsion to pursue unfun achievements, as was probably P*'s intention.

I feel similarly. I put hundreds of hours into the OG demon's souls but never got the plat because I just never wanted to use certain upgrade paths, even though doing so would be trivial. This is maybe the only 100% achievement game I have now lol.

But the time I got the trophy shop, I didn't have much more to do, so I got them all legitly to get the Platinum.

well I think your explanation here is kind of undermining what you were saying earlier - that's basically why they're purchasable in-game, Taro was criticizing the concept of trophies/achievements, and why no one should feel particularly bad about buying the trophies. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding your earlier posts.

"Criticising the concept of achievements" is a much broader argument than it seems. On the surface we agree 100% on the core thesis; that feeling compelled to complete all achievements, no matter how unfun it is, is unhealthy. You can then interpret that Taro intended for achievements being buyable in N:A to be his solution for one game (his). However, you can also interpret it as an attempt to make players realize that ticking off achievements for completion's sake is meaningless by making N:A's achievement literally meaningless (that is: having them doesn't actually mean you have achieved them).

I choose to believe the latter, based on Taro's heavy postmodernist tendencies, love of metacommentary, and especially his frequent commentary on the inherent meaninglessness of videogame accomplishments, most notably by encouraging the player in both Nier games to delete their own savegames at the end.

But whether you agree with this or not, the question remains. Regardless of whether obtaining an achievement by "traditional" means is valuable in itself or not, what's the point of buying an achievement? Not of the option; of the action itself. Why would you bother doing that? How does that change your life in any way at all?
