I've beaten the following (with my personal score next to the title):
  1. Nioh 2 (6/10)
  2. Doom Eternal (6/10)
  3. Resident Evil 3 (7/10)
  4. Persona 5 Royal (7/10)
  5. Final Fantasy 7 Remake (8/10)
  6. Minecraft Dungeons (4/10)
  7. The Last of Us Part 2 (9/10)
  8. Ghost of Tsushima (7/10)
  9. Mafia: Definitive Edition (8/10)
  10. Spider-Man Miles Morales (6/10)
  11. Astro's Playroom (8/10)
  12. Cyberpunk 2077 (9/10)

12 in total, 16 including the 4 remastered titles I've beaten that released this year (COD:MW2 Campaign, Mafia 2, Saints Row 3, and Kingdoms of Amalur).
I think that might be the most "new" games I've ever played in a single year.

Good year overall. Only played 1 bad game, the rest are above average and 2 of them might be some of my all-time favorites (TLOU2 for sure, CB2077 I don't know yet, we'll see how the DLC and future support will turn out).

Only 4. Many more from 2019, though, and I guess a December 2019 game played in January 2020 is actually more contemporary than a January 2020 game played in December 2020. So your criterion is a bit questionable...

7 which is way more than usual

Iron Man VR
FF7
Bugsnax
Miles Morales
Worms
GoT
Fall Guys

I usually only buy 2-3 games. I only paid full price for Iron Man, FF7 and MM though. The rest were PS+ or deep discount

Easily 16+ thanks to Game Pass. A lot of those were games I downloaded, played an hour, or less, of and deleted, like Battletoads, Streets of Rage 4, Carto and such...and then others like Wasteland 3 and Ori i played many many hours of to completion.

I can only think of a handful;

Flight Simulator
Cyberpunk
Animal Crossing
Sakura Wars
Fall Guys
Xenoblade Chronicles DE (if that counts)

I've only done the first level of Doom Eternal, so I won't count it. There may be a couple more, but I can't have played them to any noteworthy degree.

14 games. Quite a bit more then usual.
- Age of Calamity

- Bugnax
- Crusader Kings 3
- Doom Eternal
- GoT
- Genshin Impact
- Hades
- Last of Us 2
- Miles Morales

I just started with Fenyx yesterday so that one doesn't count and I am waiting for the PS5 version of FF7R.

Here's what I got, counting anything I've actually started to play:
  • Bloodroots
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Xenoblade DE
  • Paper Mario: The Origami King
  • Trials of Mana
  • Hades
  • DOOM Eternal
I also own Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but I haven't started it proper yet since I want to get through some other stuff first (though I played the demo before buying).

Glad I'm not the only one with a lot. I bought and played 60+ games last year, and I don't play very many indies aside from the really notable ones. 2020 was absolutely packed.

o_O god damn! I mean, COVID probably messes up the stats somewhat, but a new game more than once a week is bananas lol

  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Carrion

And the rest:

  • Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King
  • Fairune Collection: Fairune

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Legacy of the First Blade (DLC Expansion 1)
  • Forager

  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
  • Indivisible
  • Superliminal
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  • Gylt
  • Arise: A Simple Story
Edit: I only count games I finish or put a hard stop on due to a game being never-ending like Animal Crossing, or I wasn't enjoying it like Raji. Who knows how many I've actually started but haven't finished yet. I should try tracking that this year!

I think I count a total of eight 2020 games, though two of them were remakes/remasters of older games, and one of them I only just started playing this month so it technically wasn't played in 2020 lol

I guess the two halves to that question are how many you beat and how the hell you could afford to buy them all, haha (though I suppose game pass users sort of change the equation).
I honestly forgot about Gamepass when making my list funny enough. I mostly play PS4/PS5 and Switch so I forget to take the Xbox games into account.
I beat around 30 of the 65 games on my 2020 list. Half of them were day one buys, but the other half I bought on discount which definitely helps lighten the bank load a bit 😅 Collecting games in itself is like a hobby for me so I'm fine investing in it.

50+ of the 2020 games played for more than a hot minute. 60+ if I counted games I hardly touched.

Beat less than 5 of the 2020 games though haha

Half-Life: Alyx
DOOM Eternal
Star Wars Squadrons
Will of the Wisps
Hades
Fall Guys

Haven't even finished Ori 2 yet and I refunded Hades because its not my cup of tea. I also refunded Fall Guys due to being super repetitive lol.

I won't count things I loaded up and quit in less 10 minutes (gamepass, or stuff in my library, or Bugsnax). Lots of replayed games this year marked with *. Not ranked but THPS, SMG and Cold War were my favourites of the year.

Tony hawk Pro Skater 1-2
Ghost of Tsushima
The Last of Us Pt II
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Assassins's Creed II *
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood *
Assassin's Creed Revelation *
Tomb Raider (2013) *
Rise of the Tomb Raider *
Rage 2
Super Mario 64 *
Super Mario Sunshine *
Super Mario Galaxy *
Mario Kart Live
The Touryst
Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered (campaign replay) *
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
Call of Duty WWII (MP) *
Call of Duty Modern Warfare (MP) *
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
Spider-Man Miles Morales
Astrobot's Playroom

2021 is likely to have a buch of Halo games, Just Cause , Horizon: Insert Subtitle, Hitman, and a stack of bethesda titles once they all hit gamepass
Read the thread title again.

I ended up playing 12:
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Astro's Playroom
Bugsnax
Cyberpunk 2077
Demon's Souls (2020)
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Ghost of Tsushima
Kentucky Route Zero
The Last of Us Part II
Resident Evil 3 (2020)
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Trials of Mana

The only disappointment of the bunch was Cyberpunk, which was a disaster in every sense of the word. Starting off with the racism and transphobia, through to the bugs, crashes and base PS4/XB1 performance and ending with all the bad game, level and mission design it's built on. After all the hype, what a complete joke.

20 or somewhere around that. Played a lot of retro and older games too. Looking back, there was a lot of time for games last year.
